Irrespective of his mindless red card yesterday, what were peoples' opinions of him? As a quick aside, I thought the boy was unlucky, because it was a penalty and then Barton was an absolute tosser. But that's another debate.

I've heard people say that he's a typical Arsenal player, but I didn't see it. He looked gangly, awkward and his final ball was really poor.

Certainly, it's too early to judge, but the early signs weren't great. I was shocked to see him stay on and Arshavin come off.

In his favour, he looks quick and makes some very good runs/takes up good positions. Poor final ball could have been a case of debut nerves.

So, what do we make of him?

He'll be Arsenal's MOTM in most of their games against the lower sides. I reckon he'll have the same impact Arshavin did during his good spell.

He can run fast. I didn't see much else - he kept crossing it to the keeper or the side netting.

Perhaps his ungainly style is colouring my perceptions of him.

I just thought his touch looked really awkward - he didn't look like particularly comfortable on the ball.

The positive was that he seems to take up excellent positions. It's just that his final ball was off the mark.

In his defence, the whole Arsenal performance looked disjointed in the final ball. They played one decent penetrative ball all match - Arshavin's beauty - so maybe my critique is a bit harsh.

I thought he was distinctly average yesterday and was surprised to see the ESPN pundits bigging him up at half time.

Having said that I saw him a few times in pre-season and he was much much better. He just seemed really nervous yesterday and it seemed to effect his final ball.

He was very good against Israel a few days ago. Got past players with ease.

I don't even know what to make of him, he was just there. That being said at least he had more impact than Rosicky who was a ghost.

He will cause defences problems with his direct running and energy...poor end product though and he might struggle to cope with tough premier league tackling.

Got to cut out the diving.

I thought he was awful all game, lacks the strenght and balance. His crossing was really poor too, but I won't pass judgement until I've seen five or six games.

Doesn't that make him a typical Arsenal player?

Looks like an exciting prospect but his final ball yesterday was awful. That will get better as he gets used to the league and his new team mates no doubt.

Could be a great signing for Arsenal.

He's got some good core qualities but he's very wasteful and isn't the most intelligent player you'll ever see. He basically gives them the same qualities as Walcott but a bit more polished.

Glad I don't have to support Arsenal every week. What an annoying cnut he and Arshavin are

Agree with that, they must drive them mad. Arshavin plays like he doesn't give a shit which must be annoying when he is clearly talented.

classic arsenal player - pace, good technique, zero end product.

My perceptions of him haven't changed since August. He's not going to become an Arsenal great.

He's got great physical qualities and his movement takes him into dangerous areas, but his final ball is absolutely abysmal.

Problem Arsenal have is that Walcott is inconsistent, at best, and they're the two players that flank van Persie. This is the reason they're a one man team - the supporting cast isn't up to it.

Does he even have good technique?

That cock up right at the end when Arsenal were turning the screw was unbelievable. He couldn't get a cross in so rather than retain and recycle the ball he simply gave it away for a throw in.

A very wasteful player but he gets into good positions and not afraid to take his man on, not done that bad for his first season and think he will only improve.

It is one thing being not afraid to take a man on, but another thing to actually beat them.

Yeah I don't think he's done too badly at all. With a flair player like him in your side you're going to get good days and bad days. Nani has them much less now, but Young/Valencia are on a similar level (I'd rate Valencia a bit above him)

Good signing.

Well for most of our games this season he has been pretty good at taking his man on, with most foreign players you have got to give them 6-12 months to settle in and I don't think he has done too bad in his time here.

Think he's a clear level below Young and Valencia.

You're kidding, right?

In case you aren't: When did Gervinho actually have a good day during his time at Arsenal?

He's got the basics. Too soon to right him off.
