Is it that Tuchel is that bad or Bayern just given up the chase?

Very late reply, but it's worth mentioning that even if Bayern were playing at their regular level they'd still probably be 5 or 6 points behind. Leverkusen is on course for 92 points, which would be a new Bundesliga record (91 is the current record). I wonder if they can keep the motivation up after lifting the trophy though.

That Baumgart appointment hasn't exactly paid off for Hamburg so far, has it? I mean even if the assumption was that they weren't going to win promotion with Walter either way, the results (and I think also the way they come about?!) are approaching a level that's going to overshadow their outlook for next season.

Quite a feat to be in the top 4 six years in a row and somehow never manage to push through.
And if Glatzel, Benes and Reis really leave then they might not even achieve that next season.

On another note, next year could see matchday attendances reach historic heights in the 2. BL. If Köln gets relegated and Dresden manages to get promoted then that's two more clubs with a lot of fans joining the fray.

Thanks. :)

Yes, it's one thing if a club just implodes after relegation, but they have treaded a very fine line of being about as good and stable as you can be without getting promoted.

I assume Boldt will have to pay with his head for this, maybe Baumgart, too, if they don't find some wins towards the end. So they may face a rebuilt on all fronts in the summer. Which will make squad building even harder. At least they seem to have stabilized financially.

On the bright side they can most likely bring back their clock for next season

It would (will?) be really strange seeing Union and St. Pauli in the Bundesliga while HSV and Hertha are stuck a league lower.
It's already rare enough that an established club from a major city gets overtaken by a smaller competitor but to see it happen in the two biggest German cities at the same time?
Viktoria Köln and 1860 München have some catching up to do.

Wirtz, Frimpong, Palacios and Grimaldo on the bench today. Safe to say that the times of "first choice in the BL, second string in the EL/Cup" are over in Leverkusen for this season. Poor West Ham, having to turn a game around against well rested runners on Leverkusen's wings will be suicidal.

Leverkusen seem nervous af.
I don't think that's surprising. A heavily rotated team tasked with securing the first ever league title for the club will always struggle a bit to get into a game.

But now they lead after Boniface's penalty. Although it was lucky that he scored, keeper got close to it.

Crossbar from Adli. Could have been the third goal already. So much for nervousness :D

Bremen really playing well. Of course they are chasing the game, but they really try to play and are pretty decent. Compared to the pathetic West Ham on Thursday at the same site it's a difference like day and night.

The only thing I can imagine comes close to what you're feeling right now is the 3rd minute of the Euros 2020 final. Life peaked.

Not really watch much German football…but tuning in to watch what will be a big party. Nice to see an underdog have their day

Wasn't that offside? Felt like Wirtz was blocking the view...nice shot anyway.

Holy shit that one was even better by Wirtz. Goddamn.

Congrats to Leverkusen and their fans, even to @Zehner
Very well deserved champions, now go on and win the EL

Another great goal from Leverkusen. Amazing football.

Idiots need to stay off the pitch until the final whistle goes though.
Cut them some slack. If you were ok the verge of your first ever title you'd be doing dumb shit too.

Wirtz with a hattrick and the ref ending the match extremely on time

Grimaldo's pass  Such a sweet hit.
Also a very deserved title for Leverkusen.

Bad luck for Werder to be the opponent for the coronation ceremony :D

Well, what do you know. Leverkusen can actually win, and they fecking deserved it. Let's see what they can still achieve this season.
