German Football 20/21

BVBs business model for the time being seems to be: be a top talent developer with the goal of selling the prospects on to generate cash, and hope to reach a CL rank in the BuLi, forget about silverware. Then they sacked a coach who is brilliant at developing players, apparently because he lacked the personality/charisma deemed necessary to win silverware. Doesn't make much sense to me.

That's basically the lazy cliche that people keep repeating. The reality is that the club buys a lot of mid to late 20s players (e.g. Can, Schulz, Hazard and Delaney) as well as some proper experienced players such as Hummels and Witsel. Given these investments it's only natural to expect to stay clear of Leverkusen, Gladbach or Leipzig and try to grab something more, if the opportunity presents itself.

Favre was supposed to see out his third year, it's not exactly rash management to think about changes after such a time span. The actual sacking happened, because things spiraled out of control short term. And as far as being brilliant at developing players goes: some players prospered under Favre, others didn't. Same as with every coach. Outside of the PL basically every "good" coach is "great" at youth development, Rose (as the likely replacement) is no exception to that.

Haven't watched a lot of Bundesliga this season but I'll be tuning into this one. A lot of talent on display and players I'm desperate to watch, such as Zakaria, Haaland, Sancho, Neuhaus, and Bellingham. Will hopefully be a good watch.

That has to be a foul. Hoffmann pushed Bellingham from behind and even tripped him before eventually touching the ball. There's no way the goal will stand.

You are awesome @GifLord
Judging from your award, we don't say it out loud often enough, but we all love you.

Why are they taking so long he was onside?
I see no reason for them to be worried about the Monchengladbach player behind Elvedi. This shouldn't have taken this long.

Fortunately for Monchengladbach, the goal stands.

How are commentators still moaning about offsides and ‘clear and obvious’ now?

One has nothing to do with the other FFS

They were checking to see who scored the goal weren't they? If it'd been the player behind he would have been off?

To be honest, that goal sort of came out of nothing. Mönchengladbach were looking comfortable defending against Dortmund, but that one giveaway by Pléa basically caught them off guard. Everyone was watching Sancho, and despite that, he had lots of space and time to pick out that pass. I'll still give credit to him and Haaland, the latter who scored with a terrific finish.

It was close.

It's strange because it shouldn't have taken long to figure out which Gladbach player actually scored the goal, and he's the one quite clearly being onside.
The only thing I could imagine is that maybe they were checking too whether the other player was interfering with play or not?

Man, Haaland is something else
And Sancho with his second great assist. He's slowly but surely getting into gear.

Once again, it's the same old setup. Mönchengladbach lose the ball when trying to break out, and they fail to transition back into defence properly. Those defenders didn't look settled there; they were ball-watching a bunch and were slow to react to the passes and particular dribbles.

Mönchengladbach need to foul Dortmund whenever they lose the ball in those areas. Every time Dortmund win the ball quickly, they look so dangerous.

Now it's Elvedi's turn to get a brace!

Once again, a set piece troubles Dortmund.

And another goal in this game.. absolutely ridiculous defensive behaviour from Dortmund

Dortmund are looking more confident going forward, whilst Mönchengladbach are the exact opposite. They're more tentative in their pressing and are giving the Dortmund players enough time and space to build up their attacks. Sancho is at the centre of most Dortmund attacks at the moment, and why not? Mönchengladbach are unable to contain him. No one's able to get close to him, and him roaming from one side to another in his free role is a huge issue.
