Only a short matter of time before we see this or another I-35 collapse.

Tampa finally completed the Selmon connector portion to Gandy Bridge. And it's way up there above Gandy Blvd, probably a good 20-30' elevation and descends to the bridge side and over on the Dale Mabry side. Should that ever fall there could be dozens killed depending on the time of day.

What a shit show that was. I had to either deal with I 275 horseshit or that horseshit every day for years heading to Edison from St. Pete.

I was off in my height estimate - it's about 60' high over Gandy.

-- The project is unique since nearly the entire extension is a 30-foot tall bridge. Contractors doubled the extension's height so that the businesses along Gandy Boulevard still have ample light and visibility. --

That’s fecking incredible, the length, the height, & especially how there’s only one lane each way.

This is wild. Open in a private window as it is behind a paywall. Original piece is from 2005.

He won Powerball’s $314 million jackpot. It ruined his life.
Jack Whittaker faced similar decisions in 2002 when he won Powerball’s $314 million jackpot ($113 million after taxes). At the time, it was the largest jackpot ever won by a single ticket. But the lottery changed Whittaker’s life and within a few years, the West Virginia construction contractor faced personal loss and tragedy. Two years ago West Virginian Jack Whittaker took home a lottery payout of $113,386,407. Since then, that money has cost him -- and everyone around him -- dearly.

Crime journalist Peter R de Vries has been shot in the head in front of the tv studio of a show he presents. Did a lot of stuff regarding organized crime, so plenty of enemies. Guy's a twat, but feck me, a journalist being shot in the head. In clear daylight.

Possible solution - build and encourage trains?

But nah, keep expanding current roads and build more. (edit) I should note it's rather odd many of these connector highways and freeways cut right through minority neighborhoods. Go figure.

Ben & Jerry's potentially risk criminal liability under U.S. Federal or applicable state laws if this is a boycott. Complaint could be filed by the Commerce Dept.

I read that and have absolutely no clue what to take away from it other than the author having a distressingly limited view of what the fight against racism actually means to the majority of people fighting it.

Aside from solving numerous cold cases, I really appreciated how he was the only guy that was effective at dismantling far-right nonsense on tv.

I know he was a bit of twat, but let's not pretend we wouldn't all want to casually walk up to a underground arms dealer we had just framed and say "Hey, Rambo!".

Sixty years ago today the Berlin Wall was built by the socialist regime in Eastern Germany to prevent their population from fleeing the socialist disaster. Part of my family lived right next to the inner city border (on the western side) when the wall was built and still vividly remember their neighbors just across the street scrambling to make it across the border with whatever belongings they could carry to avoid being trapped by the socialist regime.
