Film Gene Hackman (95), wife (63) and dog (?) found dead at home

Nah, the guy had a bunch of good films under his belt:

The Conversation
Unforgiven
Scarecrow
Mississippi Burning
French Connection
Night Moves
Royal Tenenbaums
A Bridge too Far

Superman and Superman II..

He was brilliant as Lex Luther.

That first Superman by Donner encapsulates the very best of comic character adaptations. The tone is perfect and the cinematography is refreshingly so light and full of colour.

Top 3 hackman movies:

1. French connection
2. Mississipi Burning
3. Royal Tennenbaum or Crimson Tide

They'd been dead for some time, according to AP:
Hackman was found dead Wednesday in a mudroom and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, was found dead in a bathroom next to a space heater. There was an open prescription bottle and pills scattered on the counter top near Arakawa.

How terribly sad. I don't even want to know how the poor doggo died if it wasn't something related to carbon monoxide.

Nope. It’s the Conversation. I think he said so himself.
It's definitely not the quick and the dead, but as a guilty pleasure piece of movie rubbish, I still love it.

One of those movies that critics mistakenly took seriously. Like Starship Troopers.

The Conversation is too often overlooked as one of the great, great films of that period. Coppola at the peak of his powers, and Hackman is wonderful in it too. Gonna re watch it sometime.

Coppola making Godfather I, The Conversation, Godfather II and Apocalypse Now within seven years, never ceases to amaze me. There might not be a filmmaker who can rival that. And it is a testament to the brilliance of The Conversation, that it fits in perfectly with those movies. And Hackman's performance is on par with those of Brando, De Niro and Robert Duvall.

Yeah, an unbelievable series of magnificent films. Also won the Oscar for his Patton screenplay.

What are the chances that somebody from the current US government thought he really was Brill and had the NSA terminate him?

Kubrick is the only one who does rival it. But it is the best four in a row in history.

Stranglelove to Full Metal Jacket (Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, Shining in-between).

Villeneuve for a modern director. Hit after hit.

Trump is charge - you bet your ass he thought he was Brill, Will Smith needs to watch out

I think 2001's in there somewhere!

Also Lolita, Spartacus and particularly Paths of Glory are also very good to great films. Basically an 8 9 film span of excellence.

You're right. Paths of Glory arguably the best among the entire list, too. From 57 to 87, not one bad film made. Eyes Wide Shut divides opinion but was never one I liked.

Gene fell and died, his wife killed herself from shock and sadness but made sure the dog died first as there wouldn't be anyone to feed after she went.

My theory only

Their two other dogs were alive though.

He's amazing in the quick and the dead. First time I saw him a movie growing up. Phenomenal actor. Rip legend.

He played a great villain or a bad ‘good’ guy, but could also do comedy.

Young Frankenstein obviously his best film performance.

Maybe Gene Hackman was possessed like that movie Fallen and his wife realized that and they fought and she won and then at the last moment he jumped into the body of the dog like in that movie Fallen and so his wife killed the dog too and then at the end his wife died from natural causes.

Most plausible theory thus far.

Physically impossible for a human to morph into a dog.

Love that film, thanks for reminding me it exists!

Yeah, it’s B movie crap, what WHAT crap!

And you get a young Russell Crowe and Leonardo? Fuggedabouit

Other movies but fantastic characters played by Hackman:
No Way Out with Kevin Costner
Absolute Power with Clint Eastwood
The Birdcage with Robin Williams

All sounds very odd. Found in different rooms and had been dead for weeks. Both kind of looked like they’d fallen? Dog was found in a closet
