Gary Lineker set to leave MOTD

You’ll never have some obscure YouTuber fronting one of the biggest shows on prime time BBC.

It’ll be a ‘safe pair of hands’ appointment like Chapman or gabby Logan.

I agree, for someone pretty small time like Stuntpeg it would be too big a jump. My serious vote would be Laura Woods in it's traditional format or Goldbridge heading a complete shakeup of the shows format.

But I agree, BBC will play it safe and it'll be Alex Scott, Logan or Chappers, and everyone will moan because it doesn't have the same chemistry.

A transphobe and an engagement merchant, lovely stuff.

She does have that that kind of Philomena Cunk-esque delivery which isn't for everyone which I get.
I'd love to see Philomena Cunk doing the after match interviews, that would be hilarious

Has anyone said Romesh Ranganathan yet? His agent needs a kick up the arse as there is at least 3 hours of screen time a week he's not taking up where he could fit in MOTD.

  media is changing mate. Its about views, clicks and shorts. He worked it out far before anyone else.

Transphobe for pointing out the clear advantage trans atheletes have in women sports?
She’s endorsed plenty of stuff that is just straight up lies. Including stuff about the Algerian boxer who was biologically female.

Also Goldbridge is an absolute twat. It’s not all about clicks and shorts for everyone. Some of us still have attention spans that last longer than 10 seconds.

Just because people have found success through such objectionable means doesn’t mean the world automatically has to bend that way or fall prey to the same trappings.

Truly is amusing to see how many lads on what's left on Twitter get seriously triggered by the possibility of Alex Scott. But it defintely not because she's a woman.........

MOTD has staying power: suggestions that it won’t be on our screens for much longer are wide of the mark.

It’s a simple concept and one the BBC shouldn’t look to change. Chapman would be the logical choice to host next.

Isn’t the issue for a lot of people more to do with her not being particularly great at presenting?

The likes of Hazel Irvine, Clare Balding and Sue Barker have presented televised sport for decades. There was never any issue because they are (were) fantastic at what they do.

Twitter dickheads will do their thing, but separate reservations around Scott are not wholly unreasonable.

Chapman or Logan would be my preference but I think she'd be ok

I'd bet Jenas who was being talked about before he got fired from the Beeb wouldn't have been upsetting these same lads as much

I agree it’ll be a safe pair of hands, an obvious and very bbc move, but I don’t agree with your first assertion. YouTube is just another platform and if somebody shows talent the bbc is exactly the kind of organisation who will snap them up.
Snap them up, yeah. For something else. But it’s too big of a jump to host MOTD. 99% of viewers won’t have a clue who she is.
Don't understand why it matters if it would be a man or woman as lead presenter for MOTD. I don't watch it, but people have saying Mark Chapman could get it. I've heard him a fair bit on the radio and he's just a professional broadcaster isn't he? No background as a player etc. so you don't need that to do that kind of job.

I understand to a degree when it comes to punditry, or at least that there's a logical argument. That's different. Female pundits haven't played at the level that they're asked to talk about. Not their fault, but they are presumably hired for their expertise rather just being general broadcasters. Ex-League One /League Two players are not asked to give their expert opinions and it's because they haven't played at that level either. Lower league ex-pros have arguably played closer to PL level, and may have played with or against some of the current PL players or clubs at a point in their career. Cup ties, youth teams, or there's plenty of current PL players who had loan spells lower down.

Anyway, for MOTD lead presenter who cares? You don't need to have played the game at all to do that, or alternatively you could be a high profile ex-player, male or female. Doesn't need playing credentials at all.
Agree with all of this. Punditry I sort of get it, but it’s an issue of recognition, not gender. People listen to Roy Keane because he has credibility in the game. Some of the female pundits, even if they’re great at what they do, nobody knows their backstory or why they should take what they say seriously. That isn’t to say Keane’s opinions are better or worth more, mind. But there’s a reason they book Roy Keane and not Lee Trundle.

Also, Gary Lineker being an ex player was just an accident. Des Lyneham had the gig before him, and I don’t remember him playing, or anybody moaning about his lack of doing so. Lineker just happened to enjoy broadcasting and so moved into the other chair.

“When you said the lads gave you a bit of stick, just how big was it and were you worried about getting a splinter?”

Am I the only one to see the coincidence of Justin Welby resigning just after Lineker? Perhaps he has been tapped up by the BBC. Or perhaps Lineker by the Church. I think the people should be told.....

Very good, can you imagine the non-British lads trying to wrap their heads round it

Goldbridge? What on earth.

I fear for the youth of today.

Definitely. It’s a brilliant show, even if it doesn’t do any deep dive analysis. It’s perfect football telly.

I honestly dont know who they could've picked that would have made me watch MOTD any more or less than I currently do but these three don't push that needle in either direction.

Yea I can't imagine who they could have found to stop me fast forwarding through the punditry regardless.

Kelly Dalglish has to be the only person who has worked for ITV, Sky and now BBC in a sports broadcasting host capacity.

Like all 3 but I watch it for the football and tradition, so wouldn't have made much difference who they picked
