Gary Lineker set to leave MOTD

That’s a shame. I do like him but I barely watch MOTD anymore anyway. Maybe due to how shit we’ve been though.
 
Why is MOTD constantly in the news? Does anyone under the age of 40 even watch this anymore?

I haven't watched in a long time for the same reason. Well, us being rubbish, and City and Liverpool being so good. I don't need to see people fawn over them every week.

Also, you know all the scores anyway. It was better when I could avoid the majority of the results and not know what was going to happen.
 
With the savings they’ll make from him leaving they might be able to show some live football again. Or give pensioners free tv licences again.

I must admit I still watch it. As readily available football is, I still prefer waiting until MOTD to watch the goals. I'm a sucker for tradition.
 
I’ve never understood why he is paid so much to present this. Surely people will watch irregardless of the presenter to see the game highlights
 
I don't watch it so not particularly arsed, but back when I did tune in I always thought he was a pretty decent host and never took himself too seriously. Seeing as it's the BBC they'll replace him with someone who fulfills the gender and ethnic diversity quota

What if they only fulfill 1 of the quotas Andy? Is Laura Woods okay but Eni Aluko a step too far?

Depending on which route they opt to take, it's probably between her and Mark Chapman now that Jermaine Jenas isn't an option.

Certainly won't miss his constant puns/dad jokes, with Shearer and co having to politley chuckle.

Should have been moved on a few years ago imo.

I stopped watching ages ago. The commentary is awful, the analysis is poor, Shearer and Lineker are too old to be relevant and Lineker's marketisation of his left wing political opinions through his podcasting discredits the BBC's impartiality.
