At least he will do the right thing and resign after this.
This game was a great example of the saying that teams reflect their managers.
We equalise, you think the momentum is with us, go and get the winner... wrong. Time to bring on Gallagher and concede any possession to the opposition.
We conceded because we stopped pressing after scoring and allowing Spain to regain composure and shape. We might not have conceded the goal had Gallagher actually been on the pitch though. We conceded with the more attacking team.
He will do what he did last time. “Take some time off to reflect on his decision” and then stay on.At least he will do the right thing and resign after this.
Exactly. United was like a cobra in that FA Cup final—against a dangerous team.I don’t understand his tactics. He sets up low but doesn’t have any fast players up top to use as outlets.
England would have won this tournament with a good manager. Southgate has cost them, awful shame.
You create your own luck by winning games and getting in positions where things are more likely to happen for you.
You could argue that England would have been better off playing the likes of Germany who would be more open without any real quality or organisation, or France who hadn't scored a goal in open play all tournament until their semi against Spain and relied heavily on a broken nosed Mbappe.
The format of this Euros means you can go through the group stage without winning a game, where's the incentive to play open when it's huge for a team like Slovenia (population of 1.2m people) to just get out of the group? If you can't go toe to toe with bigger teams, at least be hard to beat and stay in the game. Most teams have done that in this competition and some other teams have been a lot worse than England have been.
The problem was the attitude shift as soon as we scored. What is that about? Why did they suddenly treat the ball like a fecking time bomb?We might not have conceded the goal had Gallagher actually been on the pitch though. We conceded with the more attacking team.
Another tournament of barely beating the smaller nations to go far because of a favorable draw, only to be fully outplayed the first time they play against a top team.
England, don't be dumb and don't waste this generation of players.
I'd love JoseEngland will never get over the hump with Southgate. Time to make a bold change at manager….Jose Mourinho!
This is a good Spain team but that Italian team was abysmal. We should not have lost to them.
No excuse for the football played by him. I'm just glad the bum didn't win it. Be united manager if ETH was let go by Christmas. You know he would too.Just like all the 22 other teams did ? International football is mostly random and there’s hardly any guarantees who would win regardless of manager
Yep tactically inept. We need a better manager.According to the bookies, England were favorites in 2021, and underdogs in 2024, albeit slight underdogs, and I would agree with that. Still, losing both finals isn't the biggest issue IMO, it's how they lost them. And how they got to them.
Micah speaking some sense, we need to get these players to play like they do for their clubs.
The quality of the players has surpassed his ability by a long way. When he took over his good man management and very basic tactics were enough to do well with a limited squad. But now he has much more quality at his disposal he seems lost and is more of a hindrance, perfectly summed up by him be so bemused about what to do without Kalvin Phillips.
Age old argument. The last time an English manager won ANY trophy was Howard Wilkinson in 1991.
Yup. This tournament was actually extremely bad from them from a performance perspective, far worse than the previous.100%.
The results on paper don't even look that bad. They're even acceptable IMO...but the performances aren't. Both in the finals and on the road to them. I'm pretty sure the general consensus would be much better about Southgate if England achieved the same results in the last 4 international tournaments, but actually played attacking football, looked to dominate their opponents and weren't so cowardly and defensive in their approach and tactical setups.
