Gareth Bale

No obviously about it. LVG when looking at the best attackers available will choose based on that I'm sure. The notion that he would sanction a 120m bid for Bale if Suarez was being touted about for 35m seems far fetched to me. I mean, we had a similar handful on our hands with Cantona...

There's a rather obvious reason why the club wont be signing Suarez

No player is "worth" anything, it's just a case of how much you're prepared to pay to get him and how much the other team is prepared to accept to sell him.

Really hope this one doesn't halpen as he's not worth the fee being banded about. We got mugged for Di Maria, fair enough, he's a class player but he was a player Real Madrid were actively looking to sell. The fee just kept on rising with every report. Let's hope the same doesn't happen with Bale.

Ronaldo is worth £120m. Bale is simply not. I'd much rather United spend that money more wisely. It's all very well saying "it's not your money" and "we're loaded" but with there's a limit to the massive overspending we're doing. We overspent on every player we brought since Fergie left (except Blind) and sooner or later it'll come to bite us in the ass with FFP. Let's say we spunk £40m on Falcao and £120m on Bale yet we'll still have a glaring problem in defence and midfield despite spending £160m there and £200 million the previous year.

It's worth over paying for him. He the best British player full stop. It's worth a lot of money to be called that. You only have to hear the way the media wax lyrical over him. Sponsors etc hear that and want to invest. We'd make our money back no problem.

He's the ultimate highlights player.

Scores 2-3 times as often as a scoring midfielder Mata's level and averages close to 10 assists a season.

Isn't that just being a great player regardless of how much you can't match Isco and Di Maria for silky dribbling and vision?

A little video of his last year at spuds.

I wouldn't be shedding any tears if we spent 70 million on him anyway

He's an outstanding footballer and in terms of suitability for the league, he'd probably be our best player.

Doubt Madrid would sell him, though.

He would be our best player for sure, he needs a team building around him though, I don't think any 1 team can have more than 1 main man or you'll get what happened yesterday with him (booed because he never passed to golden boy Ronaldo) and from now, he'll always pass whereas in his Spurs days or if he was at another club, he'd do it alone and take all the glory.

We should have grabbed sanchez when we got di maria imo. Those two on each wing would have been oh so good. As it stands, getting another attacking player, again, is just not what we need. Our football is starting to flow, and our defence is getting a tad better, but the constant injuries is ridiculous. We need to strengthen that defensive line now. With numbers, and a solid back 3/4 who you know are going to play every week. With the odd rotation of a player for rest.

Bale is just a glamour buy. I would love him here at united, as would I love ronaldo, messi, sanchez, neymar. But we have other important things we need to deal with sooner.

Just look at Chelsea/City. The title claimants. They have solidness right throughout the team, very few weaknesses. We cant keep strengtheming our strengths and hope people will forget our soft spots.

I agree that we need to start looking more solid (much more solid, actually), but how much more confident would we be going into games this season with someone like Bale in the team. He would return some of that swagger and confidence we lost when Ronaldo left. Teams would set up wary of his threat, which would help us defensively too. We need teams to fear us again. That's one reason why City and Chelsea are so solid - teams don't believe they're going to beat them.

Any great wide goalscorer like Bale would be a brilliant signing since it would let us play 4-3-3.

No need to spend 120m if he will be played at LWB or as one of the two strikers. We already are wasting Januzaj.

To be fair he used to play as a wing back for Spurs, it might not be a bad idea. We could then relegate a £30m signing Shaw to the bench and used Di Maria as a right back with Herrera in attack and Fellaini as a centre half.

Adding Bale, Hummels and Strootman to the existing squad would pretty much make it perfect in terms of real quality in depth:

A first XI could look like this:

DDG
Rafael Hummels Smalling Shaw
Strootman Carrick
Di Maria Rooney Bale
Van Persie

Subs from: Valdes, Jones, Rojo, Blind, Hererra, Fellani, Januzaj, Young, Valencia, Mata, Falcao,

Yeah, good enough the seriously compete for PL & CL next year.

In fact that squad as so much quality in depth, the subs could make the following B team which should be good enough to beat most PL sides and do very well in the cups.

Valdes
Jones, Rojo, Blind
Valencia, Hererra, Fellani, Young
Mata, Januzaj
Falcao

And you still have the likes of Wilson, McNair, Blackett and all the loanee's to come back

Of course it wont be like this, and we can expect at least 5 players to leave in the summer, but it looks to me as though LVG has a clear plan in place and is very close to actualising it.

With the intent shown last summer, I believe the club will go after the likes of Bale, Hummels and Strootman, just need players of that calibre to join.

Smalling starting for a team that would compete to win the PL and CL?!!!

Agreed - he and Evans need to move on. Probably Jones too. Hopeless the three of them. Laporte, Hummels, Godin - shell out for them, not Bale.

And then Shaw would get injured and Bale would play as a wingback in the 3-5-bloody-2.

I live in a reality where the 3-5-2 is a gimmick we only use as a change of pace to counter against big teams and in it, Bale and Rooney are up front with Bale doing a Robben impression from the World Cup.

Smalling is nowhere near good enough, and nor are Jones or Evans. Rojo still up for debate but he's not showing it yet.

I think Bale will happen assuming Real get Reus.

Does every team that compete for the PL or CL need to have already established world class players in every position?
ummm as a first choice CB, I would stick my neck out and say yes!

agreed with everything...

I never thought Real would sell ADM either... if they want Reus someone has to make way and it wouldnt be Ronaldo or James.

I think if Smalling is paired with a seasoned CB like Hummels or Godin it would do him a world of good.
Our backline changes almost every game.

Something that is ignored time and time again on here.

I get that LVG is most likely waiting on Hummels in the summer but I dont think it would be a bad idea to buy out the release clause on someone like Godin (His is >£30M) just to ensure a top 4 finish.
No champs league for one year is bad enough, but to miss out two years consecutively would be hard to swallow.

I disagree big time. I still really think Smalling when fit is a quality centre back.. I can't say the same about Evans and Jones.. but Smalling is worth keeping. Pair him up with someone solid and sort rest of side out we'd be fine.

Our defenders have to defend a lot more than other top sides because we are not creating chances at will or keeping ball in attacking areas long enough.

He's not going to be moving anytime soon, but if he was available, i would be more than happy if Woody spent 120 million on him. He is the best British talent by a Country mile. He has proven himself in the Premier League, European football, and the Spanish league. Just the type of player we need if we eventually play a 4-3-3. Easily in the top 8 best player in the World.

No he's worth no more then what Madrid paid for him two years ago. If we pay more then we are fecking idiots.
