Defensively not as good as he is going forward though. I'd prefer a defender to defend first but that doesn't mean he's not good
The defensive part of Bales game might not to to Evra standard but it is pretty good for a winger. IMO his directness, crossing abillity and tackling mirrow valencia and having them operating on each wing with evra/raf would make for potentially the best wings in europe. Add to that a defensive mid, decent striker or attacking mid and we'd have some bloody team

Bale is turning into a real big match player. Twice now he's really upped his game against top sides and today he was simply magnificent. I just watched a replay of the 3 on 1 goal chance that Pav fluffed and Bale was the one that started the move in his own box...the lad fecking ran some 70 yards and had Pav been less of a greedy cnut Bale should have gotten either an assist or goal himself for that superb effort.

I always knew he would come good. He is a fantastic player. Going to cost a fortune but he would solve (at a stroke) a lot of our left-flank issues.

He's great coming forward. But we have no problems on the left unless you believe Tosic is off in the summer. In which case we need cover and that will cost a lot less than it would take to sign Bale.

Outside of Evra and an ageing Giggs we don't have a natural left-footer. Tosic obviously isn't going to work out and Nani, Obertan etc all offer the same thing which can lead to a lack of width at times. Jesus, where is the controversy in that?
