Yeah, I thought the same...wonder what changed because it did look like they responded to the backlash at one point

Sorry for the late response bud, was out with the missus. Agreed. Though even mentioning those "3" it's quite clearly still a decent amount. Non of City, Chelsea or Arsenal have 3 "youngsters" from their academy debatably first team players.

Surely Arsenal do... Jenkinson, Gibbs, Wilshere - or did they buy one of those?

Didn't barca spend a similar amount on ibrahimovch when you consider they let etto got the other way?

Wait, Neymar wasn't exactly cheap, was he? Bit rich to start being disgusted at the money Madrid are spending.

Thats what I dont understand. Barcelona have nothing to do with this transfer but now they're manager made a similar comment to what Raul made not long ago and suddenly he 'said it best'.

Barcelona - doing the best even when they're not involved.

Fcbarca always says these odd things. He called morunho's antics "dark arts" once :lol:

Didn't know the club also made such wired statements.

But guys, what will happen to the FIFA box art? ;_;

That was another Barcelona supporter to be fair, one who got banned for being an utter bell end.

While I partly agree with what Martino said, he'd better keep his gob shut when they seem to spunk a lot of cash themselves each summer.

Ah, I thought we had only had only one barca fan here. Apologies for fcbarca then.

The rumoured Bale fees are ridiculous but Barca don't have a leg to stand on when it comes to spunking big money on players.

But spending 50 million on Neymar was an altruistic act in order to boost the Brazilian economy? ;)

Aren't they paying Neymar a ridiculous amount of money too, we're talking a lot more than Bale will get? Wages are a bigger expenditure than transfer fees.

Of course the majority of their income comes from Spaniards who pay taxes. They're the ones who pay TV subs, buy shirts, pay for season tickets.

If you mean are they subsidised by general or local taxation. No, they aren't.

Where they do have favourable accounting treatment is as a member owned sporting club, that reinvests all the income inside the club or the charities it funds and it's the same favourable treatment as other similar groups. The club pays its taxes, and it pays interest charges, on time, on its loans.

If you want to look for dodgy dealing, it relates to the profits they make from land and real estate trades, sometimes with local government. It's a relatively small part of their income over the decade, but they buy cheap and sell high - but they don't buy/sell at anything other than market value. Of course, if you're run by the boss of a construction company that turns over billions you might be as good at making that market as exploiting it.

But they have been getting loans from Spanish banks at favorable interest rates !

Banks which have been getting government support, and thus taxpayer money !

But guys, what will happen to the FIFA box art? ;_;

Good question !

Would be an absolute joke if he was on the cover for the British version in a Tottenham shirt, while playing for Real Madrid. But i think the chance of it happening is pretty high. They probably paid Bale already for his image rights and took the photo's and all. Don't think they will be paying another player to make a new box art (but not sure).

The bank interest rate in Spain across the last decade or so has averaged 2.5%. Real Madrid, as a secure company that always paid back its loans, got loans at not much above rate (but yes, they did pay above the base rate).

You could argue that other European teams are not considered as safe corporate risks and therefore pay higher interest rates which is in some way unfair. However there is no taxpayer subsidy, hidden or otherwise, in a business taking out a business loan and paying it back at a normal commercial interest rate.

Incidentally last year they had brought bank borrowing down to 146m Euros and had 98m cash in hand. Net borrowing about 50m - so even with interest rate rises (like took place in Spain last year) they aren't paying out much. Their business model works fine, at least in the short-term. It's their sporting model that doesn't work as well as they'd like.

Hardly makes a difference, does it? Probably suits EA, now they have a Barca and a Madrid player on the cover, much more high profile than Spurs.

RM break the transfer fee record that they have already set, don't lump other clubs in with them - no one does what they do

More like you don't have a leg to stand on when it comes to how much of their squad is made up of cantera players - no big club has more cantera players in their squad than Barcelona

Well that's entirely relevant and hits the point he was making.

It's the same bloody thing. They're spending close to 100 million on a player, barcelona spent 60 million plus one one of the worlds best strikers for a player.

What's that got to do with anything? Martino wasn't talking about home-grown players, he was talking about buying in talent for a big fee, which is something Barca are also guilty of. Neymar cost you what, €60m?

Barcelona should zip it and Madrid should be told to pay off their own fecking debts in future. Two successful clubs that basically live in cheat mode. How hard it must be for them to be successful when everyone else is skint. Madrid are off their rocker.
