Heres my 2 cents on the bale transfer

£94 million?....Ninety Four?!

My head hurts.

Was it Pounds or Euros. (not that it makes much difference as it is still absolutely ridiculous)

Bullshit Balague says it's done.

This is ridiculous, it's a bizarre amount of money to pay. What a great bit of business by spurs though.

You can't be serious?

Absolutely. I get a lot of stick for referring to Ronaldo as a bargain, but he was. A few years down the line and this is what transfer fees are like.

At the end of the day, £85m was where Real started the bidding. Nothing else would have got him.

A poor mans Ronaldo

Why didn't Madrid sign Neymar & Falcao instead for nearly the same amount?

Why does Ballague do this to himself?

So from "will" to "could" and from "next few hours" to Thursday or Friday. Oh Geee-yem.

That's not really how transfers work though.

You could ask us the same thing when/if we sign Fellani for more than Thiago cost.

We're talking about Gareth Bale here. Not Ronaldo, not Messi....but Bale. A player who has only once hit double figures in the league and has a league best total of 21 goals. He's not worth anywhere near this kind of money. Its insane. And actually quite disgusting.

Not sure the relevance in that. The point was your value of Bale is bizarre. Anyway..

The point I'm making is that you're behind in transfer fees. Fabregas, if he were to leave, would essentially have been discarded by Barcelona. Admittedly, he's a world class player, but he would have gone for £50m. That's a player leaving a club for not being good enough/fitting into the system.

Bale is moving up, he's under a big contract, and Spurs had no desire to sell. That means £95m in this day and age.

Saying he scored 21 goals is true, but misses the bigger picture. You're looking at a guy who carried Spurs all season. Of the 21 goals he scored, about 15 were world class strikes. 8-10 of those were after the 80 minute mark. This is a guy who brings his best when his side is up against it. He's a wonderful talent.

World of difference doing it for Spurs and then doing it for Madrid. £95 million is obscene and it's mad you think it's a reasonable price.

Just don't see the relevance in harping on about United. We won't pay over the odds for a player which I'm quite comfortable with. My point was tongue in cheek, but I do think your value for Bale is OTT. Great player, yes, but statistically and in general not a patch on both Messi and Ronaldo. Still unproven at the highest level without having regular champions league football.

He is a wonderful talent, he's not worth £94 million. That's £14 million more then Ronaldo, who scores at a rate of a goal a game (its actually more isn't it?). Bale wont get anywhere close to that. He'll do well to get 30 in a season.

He's going to become the most expensive player the world has ever seen. Ever. Its utter madness.

Of course it's obscene. Look at what £95m could do for a charity or something.

It doesn't, however, take away from the fact that the fee in question is what players like him are going to go for now.

No one's gone for a fee like that. The only player close is Ronaldo and he's a far far better player. Thats the point.

We'll see how Bale gets on, won't we? I reckon he'll get around 30 in his first season and then will kick on. It's not all about goals either - it's about contribution.

Ronaldo wasn't worth £80m. He was worth £100m. You got blown away(understandably) by the world record fee, but he was under-priced.

Different contractual situations.

Let's stop living in 2005 guys. A transfer of this magnitude is £90m now. Give it another 5 years and we'll see a £100m+ one.

What do you mean? You just said Bale will be a top 3 in the world player. Thats Messi, Ronaldo, Bale. No room for Neymar there, so you are suggesting Bale is going to categorically be better than Neymar

I dont think its clear cut like that. In fact, despite being a Bale fan always, I think Neymar will be the better player

But they aren't. Falcao, Neymar, Cavani, Gotze... all moving for £50 million or less and at a similar ability/potential.

Please tell us more Captain Hindsight.

I think Bale, as it stands, is better than Neymar. But even if you consider Neymar 3rd, Bale will be 4th. It doesn't affect the point.

Anyway, it's late so I'll get back to this tomorrow.
