Gareth Bale Transfer Speculation | Done

As for my valuation of Pogba, it was the price I'd seen used in any articles linking him with a move away from Juventus, and I imagine the sort of amount it would now take to get them to consider selling. I also think it's a price that a top club would be willing to go near for a player of his ability and age.

 Even Scott Parker won it for Christ sake.

Bale didn't deserve it either time he won it. He won it the first time because of those performances against Inter & Suarez would have won it last year if it were not for the biting lark!

As did van Persie, Henry and Ronaldo. So what?

Just to clarify, what are we actually trying to say about Gareth Bale here? He's 'not that good' after all? Or he's very good, but there are several players as good as him? I'm a bit lost. I thought it was generally accepted he was fecking amazing.

That said, it was only a few months ago that I stopped having to argue with people on here that he was better than Antonio Valencia, so I can't say I'm too shocked.

Sorry but that is nonsense Irwin. The difference between bringing in a player for £40m-£50m and £80m+ has not just financial implications but also added pressures and expectations but from fans, managers, fellow players and the player himself. At £85m, he'd be the most expensive player in a squad of ego's. Can you imagine the pressure that brings. It'd be a 24 hour cock measuring competition. As a £40m player he could slip into the squad. At £85m, he can command a top wage which brings problems with Ronaldo's next contract both in making sure it is similiar and making sure you can afford it.

Real don't have the same bottomless pit City and PSG have, they will need to recoup that transfer some how.

Yes. From the outside looking in this bears all the signs of Ronaldo being on his way out. Or they're just spinning around in a mupppet frenzy down there, throwing out bids and cash like there's no tomorrow. As you suggest bringing in a player at that cost, undoubtedly offering him extremely handsome wages too, will have implications in squad like that - I would be surprised if it didn't. The natural measure would be to offer Ronaldo a new and extravagant deal as an immediate sweetener - or to let him go. Keeping him on the same terms, knowing he will want an extension, and then add a record signing to the squad (a player people talk about, wrongly but never mind, as Ronaldo MkII) - well, it seems like a recipe for disaster to me.

I think the point is in my opinion Real are welcome to Bale at that price. I'm delighted we are nowhere to be seen in all of this. As much of a good player he is he doesn't warrant a world record transfer fee. Leave him at Spurs. He will soon force a move and at a much lower price.

Fair enough. I'd love for us to sign him, and while I won't say a definitive value, I think it's clear he's not just your random £40m player that floats around 3 or 3 times every window. He was always either going to break the record or come very close to it I think.

I am even undecided as to whether I would prefer him to Ronaldo, taking age into consideration.

My big hope at this point (and not too unrealistic) is that he flops at Madrid but is still a special player and they off-load him in a few years for half that. For an 85mil player to flop they can still be excellent but just not Ronnie/Messi brilliant.

Aye, see my post above and I kind of agree with you, but if money was any object to Madrid they wouldn't do this. They have a more limited pit now because their Spanish government financiers are in a little trouble but clearly not so much trouble that they will have two players with a combined cost of £170 million euro.

"Man United were interested in me but I wanted to play first-team football,' Bale said, in an interview with Match of the Day magazine.

Describing how the brilliant Tottenham forward became the one that got away, Ferguson said: ‘We were disappointed in Southampton at the time, because we were first there, but they never came back to us. We were disappointed in that
.

Contrasting stories, but i get the feeling you don't really know what you're talking about because it doesn't sound like Bale ever got an opportunity to formally reject United.

Did you not read the first line?

'Interested'. He never said "i rejected Manchester United" or "I chose Spurs over United". And if he did say those words he'd be lying because we never got past the usual protocol of permission from his club.

This was said before we went to WHL this season:

Ferguson said: “We tried to buy him from Southampton and they turned us down. It was not the boy who turned us down, it was Southampton, then a few weeks later he signed for Tottenham."

And given the fact Sir Alex had nothing to save face about regarding Bale, you know because of those 5 Premier League titles won out of the last 7 and an array of top quality talent at his disposal regardless, I think I'm going to believe him.

"I believe the club is in talks to find a solution and we will see what happens."

This means the press will go into overdrive with Ronaldo to United stories over the coming weeks.

As much as Bale would be great not for £80m-90m especially after reading for the past couple of year about the debts blah blah blah and now a few of the same posters want us to splash out like a third of our debt on him! The cafe has gone mad waiting on players to sign!

United don't need to spend that amount of money.

Although Bale has improved way beyond imagination I think United have a gem in Zaha, who has the potential to be better playing a similar role.

Just a week to go.

I like your optimism, Sultan. I think Zaha is a better dribbler already.

Zaha could be amazing but it's too hard to tell. Bale's very good at what he does. We'll see over the coming seasons though I suppose. Of course it'll be hard for a United player to recieve recognition from anyone outside of United in England.

Wouldn't say he's fecking amazing. He is quality though. Not as good as the three you've mentioned above. And worth nowhere near the figures quoted. I'd like him at United but he's not the kind of player I'd go nuts about to see in a united shirt. For me, he's a bit overrated. More on Mata's level rather than the likes of messi or Ronaldo. And no one is going to lay 85 million for mata. The hype over bale has gotten ridiculous. Too many just go off highlights. His overall game requires much improvement.

'Plan' to unveil. Basically, when it doesn't happen, it was because something else came along and disrupted the plan, and not because the Sun were chatting absolute shite in the first place.

If Bale does end up signing for Real for a world record fee it can only be good news for those wishing for a Ronaldo United return. Knowing how Ronaldo is, he has to be the best, most loved and most expensive player in the world. For an inferior player to command a fee higher than his own will surely make Ronaldo unhappy. At United Ronaldo was a god, at Real he must feel he's not as appreciated.

AS reports it's done for 120m Euros and that Levy has asked not to be official until they have signed 3 players, including Soldado a Luis Suárez.

120m Euro's FFS that is a lot of money.
Does not make any difference if Spurs wait to make it official, any teams that knows Spurs are after a player will know they have a shed full of money to spend and will bump up any price.

How is he going to live upto his price tag? Ronaldo is going to outperform him every season by some distance. €120m

Most of that 120 mil will be recouped from shirt sales.

I saw somewhere on the Internet that Barca have sold 570 000 Neymar shirts worth of 100 euros, which means they had already made the 57 million they spent.
