If there was an equal bid from both UNITED and MADRID and an equal salary package offered to Bale, where team do you guys think GARTEH BALE would chose to go to?? Any thoughts...??

I think, he'd go to Madrid.

In England, he may choose United.

He is in England.

Does he mean, if he wanted to stay in England, he'd choose United over other English teams?
I'm guessing he does, although that wasn't the question he was answering.

He's Madrid bound, they've started the usual campaign to get him next year. And they will get him.

A story has emerged in Marca this afternoon suggesting that Real Madrid have submitted a bid of £60million (£52m) for Tottenham star Gareth Bale. It is also reported in the Spanish newspaper that Bale had a meeting with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy last Wednesday, when he told the club that he wanted to join Real Madrid. Andre Villas-Boas confirmed earlier that Tottenham were in talks with Bale about a new deal at White Hart Lane

AVB said he wouldn't comment of if there had been an official bid for Bale - seems a strange thing to not say 'no' unless there had been but who knows.

I think that United have at least an equal or greater chance of landing Bale than Real.

Players get the moves they want eventually - no one has left a player longer than 12 months against their will.

I expect it will end up being a fee close to Ronaldo's.

There's been virtually no press rumours linking him to us; it's all to Real Madrid. I don't think we're sniffing around for him.

Possibly true, but aside from Marca - who have now sunk to a new low in their desperation by fabricating quotes from Bale - there is no suggestion that the player actually wants to leave.

There has been a lot of press shite linking Bale to united.

@Glasto - true but this summer or next he will leave Spurs IMO. I love Spurs but this guy is becoming another level of calibre. Too good, too "big" for a club outside of the top 4-5 in the world...

This is the best one yet. According to the Sun, Levy is holding out for at least £162m:

"... Real had dropped a bid of £81million on the Tottenham table only to be told it was in the bin almost as soon as it landed.
... There was no way Levy was going to settle for £81m and sources close to Bale have suggested the chairman will hold out for at least double."

Good on yer' Danny boy. Make 'em cough up £200m.

How much would you accept for him? 100m?

£100m + Coentrao might swing it ... provided we get all of the money and the player now, but Bale only leaves for RM next summer. Plus everyone at Marca has to be sacked and Ronaldo has to give up his shirt number for Bale.

£100 million for Bale? Maybe worth that to Spurs but to no one else. I think we all know Bales will leave at some point for a lot less

You guys know he's human, right?

They should take the £80m and be happy he's not worth anything near that.

Selling Bale early for a fat fee and reinforcing the squad would have been better for Spurs. Another season, another 5th place in store for them. I'd be Bale, I'd wanna play in the CL now and not later.

Depends really, how much is near guaranteed success in Moyes first season worth?

He's really not THAT good.

Levy would probably bite Madrid's hands off if they offered 80m, I wouldn't believe a word of that Sun story.

They wouldn't reject a £80m bid, Glaston thinks Levy is god who will take £185m for Bale when in reality he'll probably be sold for £50m next Summer.

Yup.
He used to think that Modric won't go for less than 40 or 50m. In reality he went for 33m. Bale will go for 60m.

Yes but guys don't you KNOW that was the 'not going to another English club so we have a better chance of finishing fourth' tax.

Which went fecking wonderfully for them, not getting Modric was probably what stopped Chelsea from finishing above t- oh...

Yup.

"Danny Boy" also failed to sign a striker in January window(which would've probably sealed 4th spot for Spurs) but who cares about that?
HE STOPPED CHELSEA FROM GETTING MODRIC!

Why?

And Not to spurs fans he wouldn't be (I hope)

unless this is what football has become, that even fans have a price on their own best players?

Because he can't reject that bid. Spurs need a new stadium and 80m is obscene amount for Gareth Bale.

He can, and like I said I hope spurs fans are delighted he has.(if he did reject it)

As for the new stadium, I doubt transferring bale or not will hinder that at all. Besides he is becoming such a marketable player now too.

Also I don't think spurs fans even want a new stadium.

Well if you believe the story he has set a valuation - 160 million. Personally I don't believe even Real would be cash happy enough to offer 81 mil, but we're working on the assumption that it's genuine for the purposes of this exercise.

It's in the best interest of the club to accept stupid money like that - the club is bigger than any player and they could do more good with 80 mil to address problem areas of their squad than by scraping by with a mediocre bunch of centre backs and no proper centre forward + Gareth Bale.

Spurs have money to spend with or without Bale. If I was a spurs supporter I would be delighted with the chairman for rejecting bids for their best player.

From a business point of view many would accept but as fans it' should be totally different. Sadly though the obsession with cash in the game has managed to creep into the thoughts of supporters too.

If Ronaldo was not so adamant to go to real, I would be happy if we had turned down bids three times the amount we eventually got for him.

Thats the thing though, they really do not.

Sure they have a few mil laying around to get a decent-ish player. But not the money required to step up anywhere passed 4th place.

They need a big investment to build their new stadium, and the cash is just not there right now.

On top of what Adam-Utd said, we're not Spurs fans so surely we should be able to look at this through a slightly more objective lens.

I'm not sure what this has to do with the modern obsession with money in the game - no one is suggesting he should be sold because it would balance the books or represent a profit or whatever. What we're saying (or at least what I'm saying) is that they stand a better chance of developing into a regular top four club if they had 80 million to spend on their playing squad minus Gareth Bale than if they knocked back the 80 million and kept Bale.

As far as I'm concerned if you're knocking back 80 mil for Bale then you're holding on to him purely for the sake of holding onto him, not because it's in the best interests of the club.

Ofcourse Spurs fans want new stadium. If done rightly, it can take Spurs to a new level.

And also apart from sugar daddy clubs, I'm not sure if any chairman will reject 80m for a player who isn't Ronaldo or Messi.

true, but they'd probably spend five years with no funds like Arsenal did, and they'd do very well to find a manager who can actually cope with that (i.e. Wenger).

Can Real really afford 80mil+?

Economy in the toilet; TV revenues struggling, how do they (Bank of Spain) do it?

If they have bid 81m that is mental. Honestly can't understand how they could justify that. Plus really not sure how they can get the best out of Ronaldo and Bale at the same time. Still their money to burn I guess.

You mean they wouldn't qualify for the Champions League every year? That would be a disaster for Spurs.
