Ganso - Paulo Henrique

Should the price be right, I think we could do a lot worse than him. He's young, keen to impress still and I honestly think he'd fit in well with our team.

Nah, i'd be delighted for us to land him as he's idealy suited to the deeplying/CM playmaker role and could play alongside Carrick as well as deputise for him.

When did Ganso ever play as a deeplying playmaker? He's a proper old-fashioned #10. He would compete with Kagawa and Rooney.

This is the transfer forum, where people will forever insist number 10's are perfect to play in central midfield despite them never having played there or having done so to terrible effect in the past.

We obviously dont need Ganso with Kagawa coming in.

fergus has a track record for trying......anderson, powell probably, moving scholes when he was young from striker to midfield.

In all fairness that's Fergie's line with Powell.

Then I guess you dont know about Powell. He's a central midfielder who made his debut the season before last. They moved him behind the striker simply because he has a great shot technique and they needed his goals.

Powell, Gradi and Sir Alex all believe he is a central midfielder. We're not converting him to anything, Crewe were the ones trying that last season

Powell is a central midfielder, not every player is Paul Scholes and Anderson is pretty much the reason you should be careful what you claim

Some number 10s can become a central midfielder. I remember a striker at Valencia who became a right back, all sorts of things happen but most number 10s will never be central midfielders. So people on here claiming they all will be are off the mark.

Ganso may be able to play CM later on his career. We'll have to wait and see whether its even tried let alone whether he can do it. I say again, the majority wont

He offers very little goal threat himself and instead offers excellent passing skills and vision and has pretty good positional sense. I know what position he currently plays but if he comes to Europe I think he will drop back slightly in his positioning. Its just a hunch based on what i've seen of him playing for Brazil.

we have a tradition of putting anything with two legs in CM, irrespective on whether they are wingers, strikers or defenders. I wonder how Lindegaard would fare in a CM role. ;)

Arsenal are one of a group of top Premier League clubs closely watching Santos attacking midfielder Paulo Henrique Ganso, according to ESPN sources.

Ganso, 22, is widely tipped to leave Santos this summer, with he and fellow Brazilian starlet Neymar long earmarked for big money moves to Europe.

Compatriot Oscar is on the brink of signing for Chelsea from Internacional and Ganso now looks likely to follow him into English football, with the Blues, Manchester United and Tottenham all previously linked with his services.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has now also turned his attention to Santos' talented midfielder, who has been capped eight times by Brazil, after missing out on capturing Oscar.

"Arsenal are interested, yes, but there are others," a source told ESPN. "He has a €50 million buyout clause in his contract but Santos will take less, much less - not a fee that will be prohibitive to a deal in England.

"The reason is that he doesn't have long left on his contract, two years at the most, and he is not signing a new one, so its' time to sell him."

Ganso's agent Delcir Sonda has already suggested that he has played his last game for Santos after talks broke down over a new deal.

Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have all been told they will have to pay upwards of £40million if they want to land Brazil starlet Ganso.

The talented attacking midfielder’s club, Santos, have confirmed the 22-year-old wants to leave and they are willing to listen to offers.

However, club president Luis Alvaro de Oliveira Ribiero was adamant the club from Sao Paulo won’t take anything less than the buy-out clause in the player’s contract.

Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger have been credited with an interest for a while, but new White Hart Lane boss, Andre Villas-Boas, has reportedly joined the chase in the past few weeks.

The clubs from Old Trafford and Emirates Stadium can offer Champions League football, but the asking price may put them off – Roman Abramovich, however, has already proved this summer that he is willing to pay that kind of money.

“Bring the offers, but we won't accept anything less than his buy-out fee,” Ribiero told Globo Esporte.

“The player’s will always has to come first. It's pointless to keep an unhappy player. I always respect the player's will.

“I did that regarding Wesley, Andre, Jonathan, but Santos' rights have to be respected, as per the contracts that were signed.”

Ganso is currently with the Brazil squad at the London 2012 Olympic games, where they have advanced to the quarter-finals.

I havent seen very very little, but Vickery thinks he has a long way to go. Bad knee injury, long layoff and hasnt been the same since his return.
20m is a lot of money.

No one is going in for him at even half that price.

I'd say half that price would be very reasonable. Maybe 30m would be realistic. I mean, of course the beneficiaries of a potential transfer fee will come out and mention unrealistic figures (Porto and Hulk come to mind) but it's probably more to preempt futile attempts (like the foolish pocket-change bids for RVP recently)

Any club would be mental to pay big money for Ganso now. He's too injury prone and not progressed as thought this past year. However, 4 months injury free, until the Brasileirao ends in December, with momentum and form behind him, then the big clubs should start looking again then. It would be too much of a gamble now buying him.

This Source fellow...he chats so much shit.

I wouldn't pay 20M for him. He looks to me an average player with a good backheel.

It's all about buying a dream. feck the reality of whether or not* we're getting him, at least we can enjoy a few weeks of anticipation before we're spurned like a discarded pet at Christmas

* not being the correct answer, inevitably

They are willing to listen to offers, but won't accept anything below the buy-out clause?

Idiots.
