Manchester United linked with 'new Kaka' Paulo Henrique - report

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Santos prodigy Paulo Henrique, according to The Mirror.

The talented youngster has been dubbed ‘the new Kaka’ and is being chased by a host of European clubs including United, Bayern Munich, Juventus and both Milan clubs.

Sir Alex Ferguson has said that he is only looking to add one or two players to his squad this summer but with his preference to bring in young players with potential for the future, Henrique could prove to be an attractive option for the United manager.

The 20-year-old was tipped to be included in Dunga’s Brazil squad for the World Cup, after scoring 11 goals in 20 league appearances, but he failed to make the final cut for South Africa.

Santos president Alvaro Luis Ribeiro insists that the player is not for sale this summer but it remains to be seen whether the lure of one of Europe’s top sides will be too much for Henrique to resist.

No more "The Next *insert actual successful player*" please, Fergie.

We've got a veritable hoard of prospects. If there's gonna be any more spending, let's look for first team impact players.

Half of you will now set your dicks to squirt.

Shhh I want Gourcuff!

In all seriousness you're right, Chief. But bizarrely, given our wealth of prospects, Fergie seems more reluctant lately to give the amount of gametime to the youngsters that he used to.
TBF to him unfortunately our youngsters have been either taking long to progress (i.e first Nani, now Anderson) or have been having injury problems (i.e Evans, Macheda, Petrucci, Fabio, Cleverly). Hopefully next season will be better for the young guns.

Fernando Duarte in the guardian podcast rates him highly. Said there was a chance he'd be picked for the WC as an understudy to Kaka.

True, but I'm also looking at Welbeck, Macheda (could've been given more gametime when fit), King, Tosic (why buy him?).

Be interesting to see how Obertan is used next season.

The Santos schemer has been dubbed ‘the new Kaka’ in his home country because of his ability to burst forward from midfield, and is being tracked by United, AC Milan, Inter, Juventus, and Bayern Munich.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, AC Milan head the list of suitors interested in prizing the Brazilian away from his home country, but Santos president Alvaro Luis Ribeiro insists that he has no intention of selling the samba star.

The 20-year-old was a surprise exclusion from Dunga’s World Cup squad after hitting 11 goals in 20 league appearances, and was backed by Santos team-mate Robinho to make the final cut.

But is all the fuss justified? Here's your essential need to know guide:

MirrorFootball Scouting Report - Henrique
Born: October 12, 1989 (aged 20) in Ananindeua, Brazil
Height: 5' 11"
Position: Attacking Midfielder

League Club Stats
2008- : Santos 31 games, 8 goals

Action Report
Henrique is an attacking midfielder who likes to affect the play around the opposition penalty box.

The youngster has drawn comparison with Brazil superstar Kaka, although one Spanish newspaper called him 'the Brazilian Guti'. We reckon he'll probably stick with 'the new Kaka'.

He is affectionately known as Ganso in Brazil, which translates as Goose in English, because of his tall and lean build.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a very impressive 2009 when he was awarded the award for Breakthrough Player of the Year in the Brazilian league and made his debut for Brazil U-20s.

After an even more impressive 2010, Henrique will feel unlucky not to be on the plane to South Africa this summer. Perhaps his next flight destination will be to Europe?

And none of then turn out to be the new <insert name>. They're all doomed to fail when introduced in those terms

Apparently Man City have first option on him, as part of the deal that saw Robinho go to Santos on loan..

Jesus, I know it's just a highlights reel but this guy looks unreal. Ganso and Neymar look like the two future stars of Brazil, whoever gets hold of them has some real prospects on their hands.

YouTube highlights or not, this kid looks pure class. May take a while to adapt to the pace of the PL but of all the various prospects around, he looks the most impressive. Set-pieces too. Oof!

Decent article. The interview is insightful and the parralels with Diego and Robinho are very interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing how the two lads progress.

Well Guti and Kaka are rather different players. Guti is, or rather "was" clearly Kaka's superior when it comes to creativity, and also a tireless worker. Despite of never getting big chances for Spain, he always has been a vital part of Real Madrid, contributing to several La Liga's and a couple of Champions League's. Being compared to Guti should not be laughable at all.

I am not sure Kaka should be considered a midfielder, to me he is more of a secondary striker. He don't have the physical game to contribute to the defense a lot, something you have to do as a midfielder, regardless if your main function is to attack.

Bigging someone up as the new Kaka would seem quite logical given that he's a former World Player of the Year. I've just never rated Guti, so it seems a bit odd to use him as a comparison.

Well you should rate him. His eye and execution for a pass are frankly as good as anyone's in the game right now, on his day. Its just its not always his day and he's a bit of a cock.

If he's going to become as good as Guti on his day, then I hope we sign Ganso.

Have to say I didnt rate him that highly either in Beckham's Madrid days. But in the last couple of seasons he's shown why he's always been rated highly with some superb passing displays.

As for the comparison, well Kaka is right footed and fast along the ground when he gets going. Judging from the video Ganso is left footed and not the fastest, I can see why the Guti comparison is used.

Guti's problem has always been that he is excellent once every five or so games. To be fair, average for Guti is still better than most players, in terms of what he is able to do with a football, but the problem is that, unlike say Xavi or Iniesta, who are both tactically disciplined and willing to work for the team, Guti is lacking in the areas that are necessary if you are going to be included at the heart of any big team, and particularly when your performances are not sufficiently consistent enough to warrant a luxury player of that type.

And in that sense, Guti could be perfect for a lesser club, in a similar sense to De La Pena for Espanyol, although at least De La Pena has the mobility (and only sometimes the determination) to work for the team.

Players like that, despite being more talented than many of players that are regulars for most big clubs, often lack that extra something that is necessary at the highest level, and particularly over a sustained period. And that's the point that I keep making about not allowing yourself to become solely focused on particular attributes at the expense of others that are just as, if not more so, essential to sustained success at the highest level.

Manchester United representatives have made contact with Santos about young midfielder Paulo Henrique Ganso.

Manchester City are believed to have first refusal on the 20-year-old as a result of the deal struck over City's on loan striker Robinho. However, City's option will expire when that loan ends on August 4.

Meanwhile, Manchester United goalkeeper Tom Heaton is leaving on a free transfer with Swansea interested.

Paulo Henrique Ganso set to snub Manchester City

Paulo Henrique Ganso set to snub Manchester City Pitaco do gringo's Brazilian football site

Santos players Neymar and Paulo Henrique Ganso could end up as part of the deal that brings Robinho back to the Vila Belmiro. But midfielder Paulo Henrique has already said that he’s not keen on heading to northwest England. “I don’t want to play for Manchester City. I’d prefer to play for a big club in Europe such as Milan [presumably AC], Real Madrid or Barcelona” said the 20-year-old to Globo Esporte.

Ganso (which means Swan – his real surname is Lima) made his breakthrough with Santos and Brazil’s Under 20s last season. The player’s attitude to a possible move to Manchester reflects the image problem that City have in Brazil where interest is generally confined to the ‘big four’ in the Premier League. Ganso, however, could be forgiven for having only a passing knowledge of the rich history and traditions of a club that hasn’t won anything for 33 years. Clearly, City have an image problem when it comes to attracting Brazilians who have not yet played in Europe. But with the investment at Eastlands, that will change. Before too long, the likes of Ganso are unlikely to have such a negative attitude towards City.
