Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

I suppose we could argue over morals and whatnot but it's just going to be a circular argument with no end.

If movies and shows are going to be available free through other sources, I'll save my funds for other pertinent things in life.
Criminal :p

*jokes* I stream a few things I don't pay for as well. So no judgement.

I think the idea that Arya just goes around killing random people and taking their faces in order to put her closer to people on her list doesn't tally with the attitude she has toward the killing of innocent people(which we've seen numerous times of the show the latest being lady crane).

Its more likely that the face she wore was from the hall of faces and Walder Frey simply doesn't recognize all of his staff or Arya had been the one wearing the face when she applied to work there assuming she hadn't been there for a long time.

This would also make sense as to why that same girl/Arya was looking at Jamie, she probably just switched targets at a later point but would undoubtedly have killed Jamie given half a chance.

That's what I meant actually. These people = Walder's sons. She doesn't need to kill everybody, just get into the household and give the frey-meat to the cook somehow.
And got my english is terrible when writing on the phone with German autocorrect :D

How can anyone say GoT won't go down as one of the greatest shows? It will be the most watched and most popular by the general public, who cares if a few critics don't think it's "as intelligent as The Wire".

Jon was elected king. Sansa better not become fecking stupid and fall for Little Finger's games because of jealousy.

Of course it will be considered one of the greatest shows ever, the debate was whether it will be the greatest show ever. That's a matter of personal opinion but GoT might lose some points in the race for the number one TV show mainly because of its genre. All these "fantasy" sagas have lots of hardcore fans but there are also lots of people who can't relate to them at all. For example, two of my mates simply love everything that has to do with ancient/medieval history. They love shows like Rome, the Tudors, Vikings etc., they love historical movies and books, they even play games with related themes like Total War... but they just can't get into GoT or LotR, it just doesn't "click" for them.

But it's definitely a very well written and directed show, regardless of all the moaning we get even here. It has so many layers and so many little details which you can only notice after watching every episode multiple times. A colleague at work showed me a video of Rickon the other day in which he was in a crypt at Winterfell with Shaggydog visiting the captured Osha. When Osha pulled her chains, Shaggydog was very annoyed by the noise they made and Rickon said "please stop, he's afraid of chains". In the end, the dire wolf was killed by Lord Umber whose House has chains as its emblem.

Another example is the "curse of House Baratheon" that nearly led the Starks to extinction. But very few people have noticed that in the first episode when king Robert visits Winterfell and the Starks are standing in straight line, he only touches four of them: Ned, Catelyn, Rob and Rickon. These little details tell me that the creators of the show know what they're doing, they know how it's going to end and that there are scenes we consider unimportant (or fillers) but they have a greater significance than we think.

It wont. It only happens in mexican telenovela episode 500 something. This is the game of thrones. Serious business!

I have a feeling sansa will feck littlefinger up his arse for selling him to ramsay bolton

Also fits with the prophesy that the new queen will take everything Cersei holds dear..

Apparently some people have speculated that dany could get with Jaime.. and that it is foreshadowed by Bronn saying.. 'not Blonde' enough.

Another interesting thing to look at is Jaime's character arc. He was always expected to be a proper leader, I think Tywin wanted him to become King or someone of that ilk and prestige.

Abit out there but interesting twist.

So Bron is some kind of prophet?
It was clearly a reference to Cersei imho.
And why would Dany marry a Lannister? They are all but done and despised by every other house, Dorne, The Vale and Highgarden seem to be in the best shape. For all we know Jaime doesn't care one bit for power. Tywin might have wanted him to be a lord, but out of his children it's clearly Tyrion who is closest to him in capability.

Surely Dany will marry Jon to join the North and South and to keep the Targ bloodline in tact. They are also common bedfellows ideologically. Dany freeing slaves and Jon with his Wildlings, they are both progressives in Westeros. I think Jamie will end up l killing Cerci and dying with her somehow in a Romeo and Julliet type thing.

Not sure if it's been posted already, but HBO revealed a picture detailing who is related to who & how they're related/linked (put in spoilers for the sensitive people on here):

Is to see Dany and Jon getting married with a 10 minute full nude sex scene  but somehow I dont see this happening since love has a rough time in GoT, can see them going at the Night King and the Dead folks united though

But if Jon is the son of Lyanna Stark and most likely Rhaegar Targaryen... woudln't that make them brother/sister?

Of course it was a reference to Cersei.. no one said it wasn't?

Also I didn't come up with the theory - nor do I believe in it, just passing it on.

That is how the Targaryen's have married for generations, it is how the preserve the 'blood of the dragon' and why some of their kind have serious metal health problems, like the mad king IIRC

The Targaryans are also big fans of incestuous marriages and relationships, just like the Lannisters. Dont think it would stop them. They are not exactly like two drops of water either.

Have it ever been discussed or revealed how the Targaryans got this blood of dragons and suddenly were able to withstand fire btw?

I reckon it wasn't just a lucky mutation and then they were like "quick, mate him with his sister so we can keep this gig going!"

Isnt Dany the only one who can withstand fire given how viserys was crowned?
And didnt Dany do something with before the whole birth of dragons? Or am I remembering that incorrectly? Damnit, will watch s1 again I guess haha

Fully agree with this. If this is peoples fav show of all time, who are other people to say that is wrong? I think it should go down as one of the greatest in terms of scales (regardless of genre) and what its achieved.

Targaryens are not immune to fire, Daenerys is a one off, a very special character in the story just like Jon who got resurrected. Since we're not allowed to even post Martin's interviews (he's talked about it), let's just mention that Dany in the first season, after Drogo burns Viserys alive by pouring molten gold all over him, says "he was not a dragon, fire can not kill a dragon".

My high point of the season was Lyanna mormont, shes a fecking incredible character, whilst the lowpoint was the blackfish story arc, was built up heavily and ended with a whimper, he could have and perhaps should have had a much larger part to play.

Jon's supposed father is Danaerys' older brother

Ha, sorry, i was talking about Sansa... But this is pretty confusing... Dany's father was mad king, who was now also father to Jon, which makes them both brother/sister and brother/aunt?

The mad King, Aegon II, had three children. Danaerys, Viserys, and Rhaegar. Rhaegar is Jon's dad. Mad King is Jon's grandfather.

I'm a bit confused on three things...

1. The ragged-ass old timer boobs Melisandre showed... will that have a bearing later on or was it just shock value? I'm assuming her story isn't yet over?

2. Did Danerys' brother (the one killed by Drogo) share the same blood as her? Would he have died in fire?

3. Where the hell is Gendry? Surely he'll come in and challenge Cersei for the throne?

1) She can sneak back into the North as the ragged old lady and not risk getting killed by Davos or Jon

2) Might be more to it than just the blood, might be a trait not al Targs have

3) Be tough for him to challenge for the thrown since NOBODY in Kings Landing would know who the feck he is, except for maybe Cersei and she is not about to tell anyone. To everyone else he would be some random guy showing up and saying "Hey, I am the rightful King."
Think John Arryn left some clues that Ned followed, but are those clues still there? Can anyone find them? Gendry would need someone with some power behind them to back him (Littlefinger maybe).

She likely run into Arya along the way:

I'm pretty sure some people were saying it's not in the category of the greatest shows. Obviously the discussion about THE greatest show will be very subjective, but objectively GoT is on the shortlist most certainly.

I know it's not for everyone, but you must also consider that GoT brings an additional audience of people who basically don't watch any other shows except for GoT.

I would like it though if they at least acknowledged he's still around considering how vital he should be to the plot.

Not a spoiler but I'm always a bit on the cautious side in this thread.

I bought him in for a voice over session once and asked him (this was right after the season where he was sent on that boat) what's in store for his character, to which he responded "big things". Either he's a liar or they cut some scenes of him out...

I'm with you on this one and i'm pretty sure that in, let's say 15-20 years time, it will be on most "experts'" lists of the best TV shows ever and in very high positions. It's a very difficult book adaptation, the bar was set very high from the creators themselves and they've done a stellar job thus far. As i mentioned in my previous post there are some people who dismiss it because they consider "fantasy epics" rather silly and not serious drama. I don't agree with them and whenever i discuss this issue i tell these people that they really don't know what they're missing.

I'm quite familiar with this situation because as a teenager who loved reading fantasy and sci-fi novels and super hero comics, play DnD etc. i was often considered an immature kid who spent his time and money on nonsense. Then came the LotR cinema trilogy, this changed almost everything. Since then i had several friends, colleagues and others asking for my opinion on what fantasy novel to read next. If it wasn't for the success of the LotR i really doubt that we would have seen such a high budget TV series based on a fantasy novel. I agree that this show will help the genre become even more appealing but there will always be some (and critics among them) who will prefer stories set in a real world and who will always consider these "fantasy world" stories fairy tales and therefore second tier dramas.

Turns out Sean Bean aka Ned Stark has been dropping hints or rather bombshells about Jon Snow for a while now,

Back in 2014, in an interview with Vulture, he was asked if he will still appear in the show in one way or another.

"I've definitely got some unfinished business that needs to be resolved there," he said in response. "I'm obviously not Jon Snow's dad. And you need that to be revealed at some point, don't you?"

Sean Bean gives zero fecks
