Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

Oh and it looks like they really are going to drag out the Tyrion & Danerys meeting until the end of the season.

I'm personally looking forward to all the shots of Jorah looking worriedly at his ever expanding skin condition that we'll no doubt get over the next 5 episodes.

I quite enjoyed that episode. Maybe because I'd been waiting so long.

Surely they're not gonna pull the old
one side losing a battle (stannis v bolton) and then reinforcements turn up at the last minute to save the day (jon snow and the wildlings) trick for the 3rd time?

That's pretty much what I thought.

Wonder what happen to Ser Friendzone now. Good episode overall, had some actions and it will interesting to see what Sam finds in those books.

You have to wonder, WILL THE STARKS EVER REUNIT! I wanna see more of Snow and Stannis. Stannis steals every scene he's in, he has such presence about him.

Stannis is definitely the standout character this season.

Sansa and Theon reuniting was awkward. You just know that they never used to chill together in Winterfell.

Yup, never thought I'd have an toward affinity Stannis but he's become one of my favourites. Which can only mean one fcuking thing!. I hope not. He's considered one of the better leaders and warriors in Westeros. Staved off the attack on Storms End with basically skeleton crew and held the castle until Ned Stark arrived (Roberts Rebellion) and destroyed the Greyjoy fleet during the Greyjoy rebellion. All of this info is from a the history and lore series from the blu-ray, not book talk just in case! :p

Stannis is great. Ramsey is just creepy in every scene hes in, fantastic portrayal by him.

So why was that one guy lucky enough to be eaten by dragons? What made him special?

Sam is good when hes not with Gilly. Cant believe theres only 5 eps left though.

I watched all that stuff too but I'm afraid to mention any info from it in here in case I get accused of being a filthy book reader.

They're really good though.

Brilliant episode that, longer than usual as well. Nice Seeing the dragons again especially gobbling that guy up and Drogon just casually flying over Valyria was pretty sick too.

Where have the Irish been hiding Michael McElhatton? Anyone seen him on stage? He's got such a great voice.

Any scene without Tryion or Arya and the assassin people seems a waste.

The actor playing Stannis is doing a better job than I initially gave him credit for, though.

It's like they purposely made him as wooden as possible throughout the series just so he can have his moment later on.

Halfway through the season and it's been pretty disappointing so far. Doesn't help when great characters like the Hound get killed off for no apparent reason. 90% of this season feels like you're watching people travel from place to place. Tyrion on a boat with Varys. Tyrion on a boat with Jorah. Jamie and Bronn goes to Dorne. Brienne and Podrick following Sansa and Littlefinger on their travels to Winterfell. Now we get to watch Stannis' army march south and the wildlings go north. Fecking enough already.

Part of the intrigue in earlier seasons was the possibility of the Stark siblings actually running into each other. This season, the probability of that happening looks more remote than ever. Could also care less about these religious, hippy cults like the Sparrows and Sons of Harpy nonsense. Doesn't interest me at all. Arya's story has completely stalled. You'd figure a season without Bran would be an improvement but unfortunately, no. Need those crazy 8th and 9th episodes to turn this shit around.

Stannis has turned into a great character. :(

Pure speculation on where they could take it, not necessarily what I think will happen:

I think they could go with the Winterfell battle going wrong, maybe Stannis falls (since he's being built up now, including the special moment with his daughter) but Bolton has to flee/die (possible Reek and Sansa and that old lady fight and her gang fight from within) and meanwhile the watch ends up having to abandon the wall and Jon ends up leading the remaining watch and wildlings to Winterfell and that becomes the main battle ground for the north vs white walkers.

Some thoughts:

That scene with Greyworm and Missandei was really shit if I'm honest. Seemed really forced. I'd rather he was killed off than Ser Barristan. Usually, this show can do the sentimental stuff quite well, but that was nonsense.

The Dany marrying storyline came out of the blue. Don't know if it's a suave move, but I'm fast losing interest in her role. Hoping Tyrion makes it to her sooner to shake things up.

Really interesting to have the parallel between Stannis and his daughter (from episode 4 I think) and Roose and Ramsey and how they both were told to not keep the child, but both did. Stannis has always been one of my fav characters, but I don't think he was used properly in previous seasons. So, it's nice seeing him come to the fore. I have a feeling 'the battle for Winterfell' will be episode 9 and it will only focus on that (like other episode 9s from previous seasons). I don't know why but I think Stannis' wife is good looking.

Ramsey is one character that really intrigues me. That moment where he made Reek kneel before forgiving him was brilliant. The jealousy on his face when his step mum broke the news and Sansa's subtle smile were great.

The scene where Tyrion sees the dragon was magnificent. He's a great actor. He looked like a child looking out of a car window. Some of the sets (and green screens) are masterfully done. Valyria looked beautiful. I was sad about Ser Jorah! He's a great character and now he's got greyscale. Sad times ahead. Tyrion has this great way of endearing himself with whoever he's with (apart from his family). We've seen it since S1.

Overall, was a better episode of an otherwise underwhelming season.

Ramsey is amazing, Sansa has no chance with him, she can't play him at all. Ramsey is pretty much the new Joffrey, but worse.

That really was brilliant. So was the scene where he was asking his father how he knows shes pregnant and how he "found the hole". hahaha, damn!

It's got to the point that whenever Ramsey is on the screen I worry that we are going to witness something horrible. Especially with the choice of soundtrack as well. They are fecking toying with us.

He's basically made us all Reek.

I fear for poor Sansa.

I really miss Joffrey. I started off hating him like everyone else but he was great, I was upset they killed him off.

After seeing how weak and useless Tommen is as king, I'd be inclined to agree, season 5 needs a bit of Joff.

I do like Ramsey. Great character

Is it wrong that I hope he kills Sansa?

I find Sansa annoying. She's too naive and she hasn't changed at all. She's always on the verge of crying! I'm honestly surprised she has survived for this long.

Jon Snow has got to go. He's too squeaky clean.

No! Snow is my favourite right now, his storyline has great potential.

I think the Ramsay/Roose dynamic is one of the best things going about the show right now. The way Roose let's him do his thing then has a way of keeping him in line privately, is well done.

I think Roose genuinely fears him too. Its like he's hugely proud of the unbalanced, unpredictable, volatile monster he has for a son. He knows that like a Dog the meaner he treats him (but with scraps of affection thrown in) the more he wants to please but at the same time he's slightly terrified of what he is capable of or what he will do next.

No way. Sansa could become the next Cersei. You can already tell that she can be as sneaky and conniving with the best of them. Just wait until she starts slutting it up and adds that to her repertoire. Sansa has huge potential.

I see no signs of that though. I would love for her to start playing those games but she doesn't have it in her. Just look at last episode, Ramsay was toying with her.

It's not only fear IMO, he needs him to marry Sansa, so Roose will play nice because he needs him. Ramsay is scary though.

Potential perhaps, but I still think she's shallow as hell. The only time she's ever played the game was lying to the folks of the Vale to protect LF, and from what it looks like, she is still head over heels about LF and was disappointed he didn't marry her. I wonder how she will react when she finds out how LF betrayed her father.

She saw her Dad get beheaded, her mother and brother were murdered, her other two brothers burned alive (in her mind) and she probably thinks Arya is dead too and she's being forced to marry into the family behind some of those deaths. Can't blame her if she's a little depressed.

Arya seems to be better than her though. Most of the characters on the show have grown up and changed in a way, but Sansa is still the same.

You think Sansa's into Littlefinger?

I think she is too. Mesmerised by his mature intelligence and power. Although other adults would call it conniving and sly, to her he is clever tactician who is looking after her best interests. I think she also recognises that he was in love with her mother and has affections for her brought on by their similarities.

I certainly think she's falling for his soft spoken ways. Not sure if LF was supposed to be handsome in the books but Aiden is certainly decent looking on the show

I see it the other way, she seems creeped out by him but we saw glimpses of her looking like she might be learning to use people. Though this season she seems to have gone backwards a little, but she's probably going to surprise us.

I can only agree with what's been said about the former Bolton bastard and the relationship with his father. This episode was weird without King's Landing and Cersei in it.
