I cant see Obertan making the bench against Liverpool, but hopefully we will see more of him against Scunthorpe.

I am looking forward to watching Obertan play tonight - he will probably start. I hope he has cut out most of his showboating and still think he should be played as a striker.

Eh like lots of young lads being introduced slowly to the team SAF is avoiding playing him down the spine of the team (see also: Fletcher playing wide for a few years).

I do remember that when he came here last year he was touted as a striker and winger, but has only played on the wing for the first team.

He won't be played as a striker for the first-team any time soon, that's for sure.

I think both himself and Bebe might be eventually groomed into players who can play wide in a front three. Not a proper winger but not a proper striker either.

Obertan is playing in an Ozil type role tonight for the reserves. Through the middle, just behind the striker, Ajose. It is working very well for him.

isn't that in the hole?

He's an exciting player. That's the great thing. I felt when he came on, him and bebe really looked sharp. Good times

That's not exactly the most inspiring highlights package! He's had far better games than that, but you'd expect that as he is just making his way back from injury.

The person who made the video should have made one of Eikrem in that game if he wanted to make a video worth watching.

Am I the only one who finds 'highlights' videos like that awful to watch and of no use in determining how well someone played? There's about 2 seconds of footage for every touch he had, that's not highlights, it's his whole game shrunk to a 5 minute video.

I don't think I've ever watched one of those videos in full. They're painfully dull.

I thought Obertan was ok last night. Nothing special but put in a couple of good crosses. He was part of a front three and did all his best work out wide. No idea what Scholesy's on about. As usual.

Eikrem was the real creative force last night. Very impressive display.

Gabriel is gaining more and more confidence in his technique and passing skills. Good match from him.

The case of Eikrem is even more intresting, indeed. Solskjaer can be really proud !

The best I've seen Obertan play.
To be fair Datura said he had been poor so far and most of Obertans best moments in the match and actual end product were after his comment so not much point quoting him.

Here are some interesting points from a poster pocco - who is in the newbies - after Obertan's performance in the front point of the midfield position in the last reserve's match.

"Most people say he's just a winger but the problem is that he has so many qualities that are hindered by him playing down the flanks. For example, his one-two's and through balls are far better utilised through the middle. He also seems capable of just dribbling through the middle of the opposition, which isn't something many midfielders can do. I think he could be the type of player that everybody thought Anderson would be. I go on and on about him down here because I genuinely think he could become a top player if all goes well."

There's simply too much competition in the middle. If he makes it at United, it will be out wide.

If he offers us something more in the middle than the wing then i think he can make it there, tbh i would be pretty interested to see how he fairs as a AMF he played there for a pre-season game and i thought he looked pretty good

I don't see him in the first team starting centrally. He played better when moved wide and being able to roam. Centrally he was too easy to pick up and crowd out and he hasn't the range of passing that the better attacking midfielders have.

I think it's a good chance for him this season as he will have more first team chances following the Valencia injury.

Looks like he's best on the right wing to me. Which would normally leave him a bit out in the cold if Nani's going to be played mostly on the right, but with Valencia's unfortunate injury, Obertan should see some game time.

Would be nice if we could develop more options on the left - yeah Bebe.

He has a chance to become a playmaker through the middle and it wuld be amazing if it happened and save us shit loads of cash too. But he has one glaring weakness to succeed in that role or any role in the team for that matter in that he doesnt seem to be able to find the back of the net too often! If he can improve his strike rate then he has a real chance!

Bebé has been picked ahead of him for the Champions League squad to face Valencia.

Where does Obertan go from here? He needs football imo.

I've always been excited about Obertan, he has sublime ability and quick feet. The shape of his head is very annoying but he's impressed me a fair few times. He tore last year's German champions a new one (Wolfsburg) and against Leeds, he was the only one who emerged with his reputation enhanced, to name only a couple of his good games. Big shame about his exclusion from the squad but hopefully he'll get chances in the near future with Giggs' knock.

And I'm sure Obertan can appreciate that patience is something needed at United. Given his prior career, and immediate prospects, I doubt he will have a real issue with this. Not to mention I'm sure it's not as simple as waking up and finding your name not on the sheet and going home, he would of had progress talks throughout his time, and I'm sure he knows that he needs to be brought into full fitness before coming close to a regular place in the senior squad.

It's a shame we haven't seen as much of him, but I very much doubt he's truly concerned about his lack of starts. I reckon sometimes the players are more grounded then the supporters.

Hope he gets some chances this season. Like Nani and Anderson were, you can see he has the technique there and plus points, just needs more gametime to iron out the rest. One of those currently who will frustrate in game but also do something tasty too.

I think he's still doing alot of gym work which was kind of distrupted in during pre-season. So you may find that he won't play too many games whilst still on the programme. Similar thing was done with Welbeck.
