for three mil he can bugger whatever woodland creature he likes. although i would recommend he stays clear of badgers...but seriously, that does seem his only real weakness so far(the defensive lapses as opposed to bestiality), and hopefully something SAF will iron out. He just seems to be able to produce the unpredictable which is something none of our other players can do, so im really hoping he builds on his thoroughly decent start for united. Quietly confident about him...
That's probably the best thing I've read on the caf' in months.

Badgers? We dont need no stinkin' badgers!

Well nothing really makes sense about selling a player like Obertan for £3 mil.

He looks like a clever, sensible lad from the interviews and we've seen what he can do when he has the ball, which only really leaves his daydreaming when we're not on the ball.

Unless he turns out to be some weirdo who sodomises squirrels in his free time.

Blanc wouldnt ripp off his future employers :)

Something you'd like to tell us Top?;)

I really like Obertan, and what a great signing Fergie had made, it shows you don't have to pay over the odds for real talents.

Question.
In terms of pure dribbling, who was the last player we have had who could beat a man like Obertan when the ball is at a stand still? I am not talking about using pace? I am talking about trickery, moves to take the defenders out of play, leave them bemused wondering what happened there? It was not Ronaldo by the way.

Obertan didn't beat him with the trick neccesarily, he drew him in and the space opened up on the other side so he attacked the space and it was too late. What I'm trying to say is, he didn't actually need to do that 'thing' he did to achieve that result. It's just his style of play to do it this way and I thoroughly enjoy it.

Giggs would have done the same thing by just teasing the defender with the ball on his left foot, making him relinquish the space and next thing you know he's gone. Football can be so simple sometimes.

Here's an example by Kaka

It's not about the trick in itself, it's about drawing defenders out to attack the space they inevitably end up leaving behind.

Let's not get carried away by one piece of action. When he does it consistently with an end product then you can pose the question

Ronaldo could do it. Rooney could do it.

Not just by that piece of action yesterday, I have seen Obertan actually use a step over to beat a man in one of his games for us. The ball was at a stand still, the defender fell on his arse. I don't quite remember the game.
Plus, I have seen his youtube vidoes as well, there is plenty of evidence there as well, thus if you are a believer in youtube. (lol).
Anyway, even if it was one piece of skill, how many players do you see do that? It was great great piece of play and his teammates appreciated that. Noticed he rather got his shoes shined than the goal scorer?

Rooney can't do it and never will be able to do it.
Rooney can kick it past a slower defender and run past him (sometimes).

Rooney can't beat a player from a standstill with skill?

Toss.

No chance in the world Gabriel Obertan scores 42 goals in one season, his finishing remains his biggest flaw at the moment.

Hes 20, hundreds of players have said finishing is just something that improves over time. Granted he may never reach 42 goals a season but to be honest i think the same can be said of a lot of players

It's hilarious what he did to that defender. After finally sprinting away from the defender, the defender span round the wrong way before attempting to put in a final challenge. Got really fecked about, he did!

Fergie just amazes me in the sense that, everytime he pulls off a bargain and unearths a star, I think that it's the last time we'll see it happen. There's always an underlying feeling that the market conditions make it impossible, but he just keeps going. Vidic and Evra were the bargains of the decade considering they've gone to be world class in their positions by any definition, and Obertan looks a very good footballer already. 15m for these 3 is mental!

I was responding to a comment stating Obertan can be better than Cristiano Ronaldo, I said I doubt his finishing will ever equal the Portuguese's. Or is that forbidden too ? Am I ought to join the newly found fanboys who already rank him higher than Rooney in some departments of the game ?

Ronaldo's finishing was very raw and erratic when he was first with us too though.

What if Obertan doesn't get 42 goals but creates 42 assists. That would be ridiculously good in my opinion.

I don't think he'll create more than 35 this season though. We shouldn't expect too much of the boy.

That move made me laugh with joy when I say. I hope he continues his good performances and doesn't get too caught up in the tricks.

The only thing missing from his performances was an assist or a goal from his already promising performances. This should help boost his confidence and leave him to carry on even better from here. What I like about his is his incisiveness, no fannying around most of the time and just gets on with it.

He's actually created the joint 3rd most assists this season in the champions league with 2. Although so has Nani. And 12 other players who arent ours...

I love watching Owen's movement in that. The way he's always alert and on the move, and how he darts forward when Obertank has skilled his way through. Simple yet elegant. Terrible defending perhaps, but I prefer to be glass half full.

I dont know if you saw it but after the game on SS2 the pundits were talking and Gullit refused to accept Owen had moved. He insisted he was completely static. Redknapp and Souness were replaying it saying, look, he is moving, look at him move, and Gullit was shaking his head saying nah, he isnt really moving really.

A bit surreal. I think it was one of those things where you are proved wrong but you dont want to accept it so you just keep insisting black is white until everyone else shuts up.

Something I have seen on here from time to time as well.

I saw that with Gullit, pretty funny, Owen starts near one side of the six yard box and ends near the opposite side of it but hadn't actually moved.
