GAA Championships 2016

Nobody will beat Dublin for the forseeable future. Those cnuts are almost professional and nearly unplayable
Hope not. They were called "the unbeatable team" 2 years ago. Though they won't make the same mistakes again.

I'm not a GAA man at all but I had no plans for this evening so I was going to stick this game on but it's not on TV.

An All Ireland quarter final only on Sky? When did this happen?

A year or two, isn't it? They had all those tweets of people's reaction to seeing hurling for the first time last year :D

This match is finely poised. Dubs were cruising and now it'll go down to the wire.

The All-Ireland finals will be pay per view soon enough. That's the way things are heading now.

I don't know about anyof the rest of ye but I can sort of see a decline in interest in the Inter County scene these last few years and I reckon that all this SKY and GPA shit has a lot got to do with it.

The club scene seems to be where all the focus and interest is amongst the supporters now, well in Galway anyways. I was driving through the football heartlands of Galway there last week and there was hardly any flags up at all. Hurlers are in the semi's in a weeks time and there's feck all flags as well. When I was a young lad, the place would be destroyed in flags and the like. All interest seems to have gone.

And with Dublin set to make shite of every team that they come across for years to come and no sign of a Kilkenny decline I can't see things changing either.

Sad state of affairs too.

Subscription TV removes the chance of the casual viewer finding an interest in a sport.

I fell in love with football from watching the division one play offs on BBC when I'd get home from school.
I fell in love with Formula 1 by turning on BBC/ITV on Sunday mornings.

For families that can't afford Sky the sport is limited on terrestrial tv these days and if the GAA goes the same way then the money from Sky is a short term gain for a long term lack of interest

Spot on. I'd never have gotten into F1 if it wasn't on terrestrial telly. Football Italia did it for me too.

Post away buddy. Shure I'm a huge Galway United fan. Season ticket and all. Still sobering up after last nights unreal win against the sweethearts of the moment Dundalk. We weren't long bringing them back down to earth boi. I was sitting behind President Michael D. Higgins and the Connacht Rugby lads. I asked Mickey D. if he want'ed a slug out of my can of Guinness and he said he was alright. He didn't know what to make of me, I'd say. Some feckin' craic. LIttle Palestinian kids there was great to see as well. Lovely little laddings.

Fair play. There's a guy here who always asks me about Galway United, he'll know when they're playing and results, so I have to keep an eye on it myself in case I get caught out :D

Gwan Michael D, have an auld slug...

Ye had ye'r chance Waterford. Ye had ye'r chance.

Waterford had them on the ropes up until the last 5 minutes or the Kilkenny goal and then decided to go back to that defensive shite they are renowned for and gave Kilkenny acres of space in their own half to let them clock up the scores and bring it back to level terms. The dogs on the street knows now that you can not sit back against Kilkenny and expect anything good in your favour to come from it. Only way to beat them is by going toe to toe and attack the living shit out of them for the full 70 minutes odd, not 60, not 65 minutes. Sitting back and inviting them onto you is pure suicidal.

Hard to see Waterford beating them on the next day now. It would be brilliant if they do and a real breath of fresh air for this years AI final but it'll be a tall order.

The odds of a Waterford upset should be phenomenal now, because you only get one chance. Ugh.

Kilkenny 2-19 : 2:17 Waterford

What a match?! The physicality, passion and skill on show was amazing to watch. Hair on tbe back of the neck stuff.

16th Final in 19 seasons for Kilkenny. 10th in 11 years.

No words to describe a feat like that.

I'll be heading up to Croke Park tomorrow now hoping Galway will get past Tipp and do something that's long, long overdue next month.

Great story alright, the picture of her consoling O'Mahony is a classic. Puts a lot of this sledging talk into perspective too.

Looking forward to Sunday now, hoping for a solid and inspectacular Mayo win, nothing to get excited about but a win nonetheless. Would much prefer to be playing the Dubs in the semi though, I can't see us beating them in the final if we get there (and I'd bet my house that Dublin will get there), and I just can't take another All Ireland final defeat.

Let's get over Tipp first though. I have heard talk of Mayo people buying tickets solely so they'll be in with a chance of getting final tickets, I know one who was first into the club to buy a ticket but isn't even going - just wants his name down for the final. Crazy stuff - if that seeps through to the players at all then Tipp will beat us out the gate like they did to Galway. Mayo fans can sicken my hole at times.

Anyway, Dubdalk game tonight, Friday night beers for United game, and Mayo game on Sunday, not a bad week of sport.

Well that was pretty woeful. Contender for worst semi final of the modern era?

The consensus already is that we will be beaten easily in the final, regardless who wins on Sunday. I suppose you have to be in it to have any chance, but I don't have a good feeling about 18 September at all.

Oh well. All eyes on Kerry Dublin now.

I nearly wouldn't bother even travelling to Croke Park, no chance in the final imho. Mayo have regressed and it's been a miracle they have got to the final.
Cute hooreism out of kerry! I predict a great game on Sunday. Maybe 2 points in it. Not sure who will come out on top.

My pessimism has died.

Roll on Sunday, we'll beat the pick of ye bastids.

If that's the Kerry starting 15 I'm Pat Hickey. Mind games have started.

Agreed Pat. At this stage teams are only announced for the programme, I'd pay no attention to it at all.

Do you fancy Kerry's chances Sunday? I've personally backed Dublin at the handicap of 3 points, I think it could be a fair few that they win this by. I think that there's a certain lack of mobility in the Kerry half forward line and midfield that means they struggle to cover runs from deep, and the Dubs will overrun them.

Can't wait for the game, should be a cracking atmosphere in Croker too.

What a game of football that was. A bit dorry for Kerry, but fair play to the dubs. The two best teams in the country and they both play attractive football. In fairness, Mayo try too, so we might get a deent final. If football was like that every week, we'd have a much more popular game.

I unerstand that it's a results based business and that teams have to set up to give themselves the best chance of winning. But it's just a pity we see so few of these types of matches where teams try to just go at one another for 70 minutes.

The reason I think the defensive set up is worrying is because it's seeping down to all elvels of our game. I have no problem with a Donegal or Tyrone setting up defensively because they counter at pace, they're aggressive, they're intense. It's an incredibly hard tactic to get right and they work on it incredibly hard. But you have managers of underage teams that think they're Micky Harte or Jim McGuinness and they try to implement these tactics with young lads and not give the children a chance to develop as footballers first.

The last 2 losses I could take, as Dublin were the better team. I feel robbed after that, we made mistakes but so did they. I'll say nothing about the ref until I calm down.

Sure it was a great game for the neutral. We went down swinging at least

Transition time again now for Kerry. Considering how far Dublin are ahead of the chasing pack we may batten down the hatches and get ready for the Jackeens to dominate the next decade.

May god have mercy on us.

That's all I've to say.

Not sure about ye being robbed. I thought ye did well but two glaring errors from Cluxton gave the kerry lads a lifeline when needed. I think we could see a huge performance from Mayo in the final. They're due one!
