GAA 2017

Looking like a Connacht title thrown away after this performance... I didn't think that Donegal were all that bad from before. Utter devastation today. Goalkeeping change should have been made a couple of weeks ago.

Michael Meehan coming on now after 4 years away :O
Didn't get to see the game yesterday but saw enough of Donegal against Tyrone to know they wouldn't go too far. Not that it mattered, but Murphys black card was a joke.

Anyway, roll on Croker on Saturday.

Take my advice, stay at home and don't be wasting your money. Ye haven't a chance.

Can't wait for the Hurling Semi-Finals draw in the morning.

We need to improve big time if we want to beat Kildare, but trust me, theres some serious footballers on that team, only for basic errors and poor decisions from players and the ref, we'd have scored at least 5 goals vs tipp.

Anyway, even if we get hammered its not too often we get to Croker so I'll not be missing it.

Can't see anyone stopping Galway this year in the hurling, but its not as though I'd follow it that much.

Galway vs Tipp
Cork vs Waterford

Might have made a better story having a replay of the League final as the All-Ireland final, but these are going to be crackers.

Galway vs Waterford final for the romantics. Hurling would be the winner.

It'd be well-justified. Too many heartbreaks. As for the football, I still have time for it but no hope.

By the way, what did you make of the next generation of Cannings making the news?

Nice to see yet another Canning wear the Maroon & White. Not to sure how he'll fair out in the end but if he's 20 per cent as good as his uncle Joe we'll be on a winner.

Delighted we drew Tipp. I've been dreaming about getting them cnuts back since last years semi. The Tramps.

Galway v Cork Final, I'd say.

Cork forwards should be able to get the better of Waterfords sweeper system, especially above in Croker with acres of space to run around in and pop the points over. Their Inexperience could easily come into play too though. Cork are a very young outfit, Waterford have been here plenty of times now.

Some performance for Galways footballers the other day but Christ Donegal made it so easy for them. Agree with Brolly and O'Rourke thought that they'll need to tighten up at the back to stand a chance against Kerry.

Nah, they've no chance at all. They're more like to do something daft like reinstate the other goalie and drop Armstrong.

I reckon Galway will have a good rattle at Kerry on Sunday, looking forward to it now too.

Also think it'll be a wide open game between ourselves and Roscommon. Could easily see the Rossies beating us too, we're just not at the races this year. Disappointing to say, but I don't think we stand a chance at all this year of the All Ireland.

Would be great to see a Galway v Waterford final, but both of them seem to find a way not to win every year. Cork v Tipp would literally hold no interest for anyone at all.

Heading into Galway this evening to buy myself a new rig out for the Semi final Sunday week. Joe Byrne the County Councillor over in Kinvara has promised me two good Hogan stand tickets. We have Joe Canning wrapped up in cotton wool and stored in Langan Couriers warehouse, Oranmore.

Fair play on the tickets. It's going to be titanic.

The hype is reaching 1988 levels across Lough Derg. Everybody writing Tipperary off. I must say, I'm enjoying this...

I cannot wait to see ye fckers start to leave Croke Park with 15 minutes to go or more even after Canning & co absolutely annihilates ye again this year.

I can tell you now and I have good inside information that this is the draw that everyone involved in Galway hurling past and present have wanted and have waited for since this time last year and the knackerish stunts ye pulled that day. No amount of training now will get the Tipp backs ready for the amount of high balls that'll be dropped in from the skies on top of them on the 6th.

Well that kind of talk is getting me fired up too :D

Hurling will prevail this time. Galway and the wonderful art of the game of Hurling will be the real winners in 2017.

The wait is over. I'll be waiting at the bridge in Athlone to welcome the Liam McCarthy Cup for the first time in nearly 30 years back across the Shannon and back to Galway.

The Tipp lads can go back to doing what they do best, thieving and riding one anothers wifes and girlfriends.

Scenes. It'd be magical.

Galway, historically, don't cope too well with huge expectation thrust upon their shoulders. The whole world and its mother is talking them up. As a Tipperary man, it's great to see.

Reports of a 5 hour queue of supporters looking for tickets outside Pearse Stadium today.

Johnny Glynn is deemed fit to play, the New York based man, a giant of a forward and the best in the country when it comes to catching the sliotar above in the clouds and burying it will be flying home this week

If Galway had him last year against Tipp they would have won IMO.

They badly needed him especially after Joe Canning went off injured.

Great option to have off the bench.

I see the jackeens are bitching or playing the victims again. Their Facebook pages that represent them or Jackeens are now calling on all Dublin GAA supporters to boycott every retail facility inside Croke Park on August 5th. They have another Facebook page set up calling on all Jackeens to support Roscommon just because they are playing Mayo.

They're doing some serious bitching this year in fairness. They started with the Connelly affair, only them could defend that carry on. Then the hurlers were cribbing about having to play a match outside Dublin/Croke Park and now this flag shite.

You'd swear they weren't getting enough already.

The Liverpool fans of the GAA. I always said it.

Shut the fck up and get on with it.

The rest of the country are tired of yer shit now at this stage.

Galway have beaten nobody of note this year in the championship. Wexford were the better side in the first half of the Leinster Final, and that's an average Wexford team. Their league campaign was atrocious up until Waterford gifted them the game in Salthill and they weren't wholly convincing in the league semi-final v Limerick either when Limerick hit 17 wides against them.

Don't get me wrong, Galway are a formidable outfit on their day but you don't know what they'll produce on any given day either. Tipperary have faced much better teams than this Galway side in the last ten years and come out the other side. I, for one, am thrilled Tipperary are being taken for granted. We're the only team left with All-Ireland winning experience within their panel. That will count for a lot when the chips are down, you'd feel...

We absolutely blitzed ye in the League Final by 17 points. And every team by a similar or greater margin since.

And speaking of wides, ye shouldn't be even in the semi sunday fortnight. Clare had 10 wides racked up inside the first 25 minutes. Ye should consider yerselves fortunate Clare have gone to fck lately.

Clare have only beaten Limerick, Laois and Offaly in championship hurling since they won the All-Ireland in 2013. Tipperary never looked in danger of losing that match. In fact, when it was back to a point on ~67 minutes and momentum firmly with Clare, we rattled over five points in a row. Another reason to underestimate Tipperary at your peril. No other county boasts the accuracy, potency and most importantly, consistency, of the likes of Callinan, Dwyer and the two McGraths. They can bury you in a five-minute spell. Good luck to the Galway defence trying to shackle them.

As for the League Final, Galway thoroughly deserved it. They were awesome on the day. It was, however, four months ago. Tipperary have got two talismen back since then (Callinan and Patrick Maher) and will have learned a lot from that match, a match I feel Galway showed their hand in.

I firmly have it as a 50/50 battle like the previous two semi-finals have been; I just find it odd that people are concentrating on Tipperary's defensive 'weakness' whilst making Galway out to be a formidable outfit devoid of deficiencies. It suits us brilliantly going into this as the underdogs and the pressure being heaped on a Galway side proven to crack when the true pressure and expectation is on...

Tipp got beat by Cork in the Munster Championship straight after the hammering Galway dished out to them in the League Final below in Limerick. They learnt nothing, particularly in the backs.

Tipp then played Westmeath in the qualifiers, Westmeath shoved it up to ye in the first half.

Tipp followed that up by playing a brutal Dublin team in Thurlas. It would have been impossible to have lost that in fairness.

Then there was Clare last Saturday. Clare forwards were tripe, 10 wides in the first half hour and yet they were still within an arms reach of ye. Second half Tipp backs let Clare back into it but ye pulled away again in the closing stages of the match. All said and done ye made hard work of beating a poor Clare side.

Galway put 2-90 past Offaly, Dublin and Wexford in Leinster. A Wexford side that beat Kilkenny twice this year, 2nd time knocking them out of the Leinster. They were in fine form heading into the Leinster Final but Galway dispatched of them fairly handy in the end.

You said earlier that Galway have played nobody of note in this years Championship. If you reckon Galway hasn't been tested yet well then who have Tipp played that you'd deem a test? Cork whom they lost too or a poor Clare side?

I don't understand how you find it odd how people are concentrating on the Tipp backs v the Galway forwards in the August 5th clash. What else would you expect people to say or think having watched both departments in action so far in the Championship?

I agree with all your points. I've never once said Tipperary are favourites nor are they superior to Galway. We do have a few question marks hanging over us, but no more than any other side left, in my opinion. I've been complimentary of Galway and acknowledge that they will be a stern test. My point, however, is that many in the media and in Galway are getting a little carried away and underestimating Tipperary and exaggerating their woes. I'm quite content heading into next weekend's game.

I'd sooner face Galway in the semi-final after their five-week layoff and no major championship tests this year to date than face them in a final after they overcoming a difficult semi-final battle.

Plus, I find it strange how many are predicting chaos in the Tipperary full-back line v Galway when Galway have only scored two championship goals in three games against Division Two-standard opposition. I'd love for them to change tack v Tipperary and neglect to shoot from range when opportunities arise. A Galway side hellbent on scoring goals will suit us down to the ground, I feel. It's your shooting accuracy from the middle third and your ability to knock over 25+ points at relative ease I fear, not anything else.

All joking aside, people outside of Galway need to understand that it's the media and the pundits that are getting carried away with themselves. My first cousin is on the team (Adrian Tuohy) and I know quite a few of the players or family members very well and I can assure you that the players, manager, backroom staff and indeed the supporters are not taking anything for granted. Heads are 100 per cent focused on the job at hand and all in Galway are fully aware of what can happen on the day. It's not like we aren't well versed in it now at this stage.

You've left out a certain final and a certain team they beat from that list...

Gents

A young Connor Glass of County Derry made his debut in the AFL last week for Hawthorn. I had read that he was touted as the next superstar of GAA before he made the move down to Melbourne.

Does anyone know about him? He looks like a strong, quick and composed player. His transition to our code has been very fast which is a great sign for me as a Hawthorn supporter.

And for anyone interested, here is a nice video about him leading up to, and including, his debut (unfortunately there aren't too many highlights of his game - where he did some very nice things):

The last word of my first sentence is key here, I feel.

I do agree with your point, however. Tipperary folk know we're in for an absolute battle next weekend. The winner of this will win the All-Ireland, I feel. I also feel the cards are falling nicely for Tipperary: they've had two really testing championship games so far (losing one to the eventual Munster champions), they're being written off almost across the board and the expectation is all on their opponents.

You guys are doing a great job at convincing young Gaelic footballers to try their hands at Australian football. Professional contracts, a chance at a new, exciting sport, great climate etc. - what's not there to appeal? There's quite a few Irish over there now. Tadhg Kennelly is receiving fierce criticism on these shores, however. Many feel he's poaching talent, talent which local GAA clubs and intercounty development schemes have spent innumerous hours honing, at an age when all the hard work is already done with them.

David Clifford, from Co. Kerry and the next Gaelic football star in waiting, hails from the same county as Kennelly and many expect he'll be next the join the AFL exodus. If that happens, expect there to be a huge outcry in Kerry and a lot of scope to be put on AFL recruiters.

Don't forget Mark O'Connor too - the Kerry boys really should be needling Kennelly a lot more than they do in fairness.

I know the AFL is a chance at a professional career and all, but it's a professional career in a sport that is essentially only relevant in a small portion of one country, really only Melbourne to be fair, Sydney by and large don't care about the Swans, it's all about the Warratahs really. Aussie rules is the only sport I've seen live that I found myself wishing I was watching on TV, and I've been to golf too!

It's not like players make big money there either. Give me a chance at an inter county GAA career and a normal job any day of the week.

AFL is the best paying, best attended (4th highest average across all sports and leagues on the planet) and most watched sport in Australia. It is also the most exciting, but that's an aside.

Granted both NSW and OLD are Rugby states, but both have two sides each.
