Gaa 2013

Which game then? I've not attended a Dublin game in almost 2 years, but missed very few in the 15 previous years, and none come to mind.

It's a general point. Which came to mind because Dublin were playing there today. Mind you, I think some of the decisions today were definitely in the home crowds favour....

And I say that as someone from Cork.

Kerry are not poor supporters in fairness, but they will often abstain from a semi in favour of a final, the cocky bastards!
Thats what I meant. They're notorius for waiting til the final, and in fairness since they're there so often and the long drive I can't blame a lot of them.

No. This isn't related to the game today.
What is your point then? All players want to play at Croke park. Croker makes for a great spectackle and is the best advert for the GAA. You think Dublin have an unfair advantage over other sides when they play there but the results show they don't.

It's a general point with no examples to back it up.

I thought the ref was ok, but I would I suppose if he was making decisions in favour of Dublin.

Being from Cork only makes your point more prone to bias, not less. Second city syndrome.

Plus, why take it out of HQ and leave 30 odd thousand at least without a ticket? The GAA can't afford to do that.

What about the hurling semi final against Cork when a big call went against Dublin. Was that a home call?

Firstly. It was a statement. Dublin playing in their home county is an advantage, no two ways about it.

Secondly, I'm not from Cork City, so I couldn't give two shits about "second city syndrome". The fact you even say that shows you have a bias.

When Nani got sent off in the Real Madrid match was that a home call?

Yep, the shower of bollixes.

Great game today and the one's I know and have been talking to are just delighted to be part of such a classic. They've given us enough beatings over the years for them to be magmanimous.

Fair play to Dublin and commiserations to Kerry. Two cracking finals to look forward to now this year for a change, none of that aul' defensive 17 men behind the ball shite. Pat Spillane is a gentleman and a scholar too as is Joe Brolly. The only people that would have a problem with them are people that don't want to hear the truth. Well worth the TV license fee.

The fact nobody fully agrees with you shows the just might actually be two ways about it?

I was joking about the second city thing, but by jesus, you are fierce touchy for a neutral.

That's because everyone arguing against me is from Dublin. You honestly mean to tell me that playing in your home county, to a majority Dub allocated stadium in a Semi Final/Final isn't an advantage? Come on.

No, which undermines your whole argument? Surely?
Not all refs melt under home pressure. But you know damn well the poor ones do.

Well I like consistency and Lynk is just as whiney across all football codes, so hats off to him.

Today was a great game, to discuss anything but the quality on show is a waste of time.

It works both ways, that crowd fueled by media hype has crippled many a developing team.

Well hey, you didn't even bother answering either point.

Translated -
"He made a good point, and I'm going to act like I'm the bigger man and demand we only talk about the game."

What are you crowing about?

What point? I have asked you for one example to back up your whining and you haven't, so you are just whining.

In fairness, I'd say most of Cork is cringing with such universal praise for Kerry and Dublin.

Allocation is done by GAA and is not controlled by Dublin and is equal. The fact that there are more Dublin folk in the country and that the stadium happens to be in Dublin means you will likely get more Dubs there. It's not a conspiracy.

Basically. I'm not saying we cancel all games at Croker. I'm saying long term, the GAA needs to invest in Stadia befitting of the current century. Aside from Croker there isn't a decent one in the country. Teams would still manage to play in Croker, but for Dublin games, the final aside I don't see how it isn't unfair to have them playing there.

I loved the game. Doesn't matter who won to me. This hasn't got anything to do with the game.

I'm saying right now. Can you honestly tell me playing in their home stadium, with the majority of fans, Dubliners isn't an advantage?

Good. One less biased fan to argue with.
I was waiting for you to show me the error of my ways but you failed to convince me at all. Statistics show Dublin havent benefitted at all in having a majority and yet you still argue they have. So again what is your point?

Dublins home stadium is Parnell Park.

What statistics? The fact they went on a dry spell for a number of years? They hadn't a team of quality enough to win the Sam Maguire. Simple. Doesn't deter from the overarching point of Croke Park providing an unfair advantage.

It was an amazing match. Best I've been at in years. That goal from McManamon was brilliant. Some old randomer beside me gave me a big hug. I love beating them Kerry bastards.

It can be, but it can also work against the team. I've seen it, many a time. Likewise the crowd can intimidate some oppo players and can inspire some to games of their lives.

I understand your point about it working against them if they are underperforming. But right now, they have a fantastic team. I can't call the final between them and Mayo, but I'd tip Dublin simply because of the home advantage.

Dublin were there or there abouts on a few occassions over the last 20 years and didnt win the Championship. I think an advantage that you imagine Croke Park to be for them would have carried them over the line. I just don't think it's there.

But even good teams underperform at some point, and when 60,000 people are quiet, it's a big silence, and when they groan, it's like a hammer. In my opinion Dublin have underperformed over the last 25 years and I have often wondered if we would be better off at Parnell Park, with fans who know the game and love the team. I'm not sure the bandwagoners are as much of a plus as you seem to think they are.

edit - I'd tip Dublin because we've never had 9 forwards of this quality, and I do think pound for pound they are a better team than Mayo.

I would agree with this alright. The GAA should improve the stadia outside Dublin but it has to be done with sense too. Making an 80000 stadium outside Dublin would be odd because how often would you fill it? Why should Dublin be penalised for having a larger support than other counties?

As opposed to your scientific 'there's something about that Mayo team'?

Most of it has stemmed from the display v Donegal, which even at the time was a hammering of a side that offered nothing. I think of the 2 semi's I'd rather see my team beat a canny Kerry side that whitewash Donegal.

I meant teams match up differently, just because Dublin came back on Kerry doesnt mean the same thing will happen vs Mayo. Like I said anyway we shall see.

I'm not saying make the stadiums larger than Croke Park. Hell no, that will always be the home of the GAA, and like you said it would be pointless. But in terms of design and comfort, stadiums outside of Croker are awful.

Yeah I agree with you. The GAA should develop stadia outside Dublin and to be honest in the boom years I'm surprised they didn't do more. Also I used to love travelling with the Dubs to Semple stadium for the Kerry game a few years back and I don't think Dublin supporters would have any issue playing outside Croker. In fact many would love the excuse for a piss up I'm sure. There is another issue though and that is the revenue generated by the Dublin supporters by filling HQ.

If any of you fine gents happen to come across an unwanted ticket for the final, you know which way to send it;)

Hurling odds:
Cork 8/11 Clare 11/10

Football odds:
Dublin 4/5 Mayo Evens

I am thinking of Mayo to win by 4-6pts but apparently, I am way off the mark.

I dunno. Mayo are a different kettle of fish to kerry. They are younger and possibly hungrier but the big question is will they have the bottle. What do the bookies think?

Scratch that just saw the odds :)

Yeah, I saw that at the time and hought he was very lucky not to have gotten a second yellow at least. Luckily for him, the ref was up the other end of the pitch. Not nice at all. There was a lot of that going on though after Donaghy came on, strengthening my idea that Donaghy is a huge dickhead.
