Gaa 2012

The black pearl said on the last page it's tomorrow morning, which makes sense. The last draw was on a weekday morning and all the results are in. These games will need to be played pretty soon cos the next round after that is with the beaten finalists.

Top hurling scorers since 2001

Year Score Name
2001 40 ECloonan (Galway)
2002 45 EKelly (Tipperary)
2003 41 JDeane (Cork)
2004 63 HShefflin (Kilkenny)
2005 66 GFarragher (Galway)
2006 52 HShefflin (Kilkenny)
2007 49 AO'Shaughnessy (Limerick)
2008 64 EKelly (Tipperary)
2009 54 JCanning (Galway)
2010 53 EKelly (Tipperary)
2011 53 PRyan (Dublin)
2012 45 SDowling (Limerick) so far

I thought that with Limerick racking up such a high team total so far, that their highest scorer would have a massive tally.

In fairness the football lads don't get much of a chance. I swear the sports boss at RTE is a huge hurling fan. The amount of hurling coverage this year is totally disproportionate and it's like they are trying to shove hurling down your throat whether you like it or not.

A lot of the traditional hurling powerhouses have clashed already this year so it would only be natural hurling in general receives a bit more coverage in the media. Once the footballing powerhouses start clashing they'll get just as much if not more coverage. I doubt there is any favoritism towards the hurling at all.

To be fair to Seanie Johnson, he has as much chance of winning an Ulster medal with Kildare as he had with Cavan!!

The Kildare crowd can be an odious bunch of wankers. I've always had the greatest respect for McGeeney as a player. He was an animal on the field and a driven fecker. But this is beyond the beyond. I hope they crash and burn. They'll probably get him elecution lessons to lose the accent, hai.

I reckon Sligo will fancy a run at Kildare.

Not a bad draw all in all, obviously Kerry/Tyrone game is the big one, Tipp v Antrim could be a good game too.

In the hurling its,

Kilkenny v Limerick - Winners will play Tipperary in the Semi-final

&

Cork v Waterford - Winners will play Galway in the other Semi-final

Limerick should put it up to Kilkenny but they'll probably fall short in the end, it's very hard to call the Cork, Waterford game. I'm hoping it'll be a double header in Thurlas as if it is I'll head down to it.

Yeah, this was the first weekend that I thought the refs were a serious problem. I was at the Tyrone game and everyone in the crowd around me thought the ref was shit, both us and the Rossies. It wasn't that he favoured one side or the other, he was just overly fussy on technical fowls and gave a lot of strange decisions to both teams. The Sligo game had some pool officials too. The umpires looked so lazy they couldn't be arsed to come around to the right positions to judge points and so on several occasions they were unsure, and on one occasion plain wrong. Also, the winning point came from a free that wasn't a free.

On Tyrone going to Kerry, we are the form team and only an unlucky result against a very strong Donegal side has us in the back door, but it's long long way to go and this game has potential to kickstart Kerry. Hopefully it'll be on the box cos I won't be driving down for it.

Good man - you just sit on your hole at home and cry then looking tickets if they make the All Ireland.

I know a load of Down daytrippers like you

Pretty much yeah... ;)

Tyrone played 9 or 10 games in 2008 and I went to every one of them but the final. No ticket to be had for someone who followed them all year was a disgrace and put me off a wee bit. If the GAA had a system of ensuring that if you do go to all the games you'd be guaranteed a ticket then I'd go.

This should be a great game. I forgot that the games come week on week now in the qualifiers. Round 3 is this Saturday/Sunday and round 4 is the next week. This is where it starts to get interesting. Whoever goes through from Tyrone/Kerry should have more than enough to get past Clare so a quarter final place is really the prize.

Does Club Tyrone not offer this?

But I agree. Down 2 years ago. feckers who hadn't gone to a match since the 90's hopping on board the daytripping bus. First time they had been to Croker since Westlife

I dunno if they do Baz, but to my knowledge club Tyrone are purely a fundraising organisation who have no say over ticketing at all.

Also, I'm living down South, so I have no membership or real connection to any club in Tyrone anymore. When I go to a game I buy my tickets at the gate or for ticket only games I get them online or buy them on the street outside a game. The GAA does need to tighten up on this and implement a ticket system whereby frequent match goers are rewarded in this way.

Surprised Tyrone do not offer this. They are one of the most proactive counties going.

My own County don't even have a fecking website. They are a disgrace

I see they are releasing one year Premium tickets now. Cost €1k for the Davin Stand. http://crokepark.ie/priomh/priomh-price-plans

A waste for me as I don't need tickets past July. Looking at the Draw* - you got to fancy Kildare making the semi's.

Leitrim v Laois ; v loser Leinster
Kerry v Tyrone ; v Clare
Tipp v Antrim; v loser Ulster
Kildare v Limerick ; v Sligo

Aye, it looks good for Kildare. You gotta think they will steamroll Limerick and Sligo, regardless of where the Sligo game will be held.

Glad we avoided Kildare anyway. Tyrone are just what we need to get the blood racing again.

Tyrone Game live on TV3 - the Daytrippers will be delighted

I am delighted, as will half of the GAA following country.

Just bear in mind too while you are calling them daytrippers that it's a pricey job to take family to the game, and more so when it's 8-9 hours drive.

especially if you have young kids, that length of time is a nightmare in the car for the young ones...in fact its hardly worth it for 70 mins

An 8/9 hour drive is too much in fairness. For fixtures like this it would make more sense to play at a neutral venue somewhere in the middle of the country, Pearse stadium or something. The GAA would probably pull in more money at the gates too.
