Gaa 2012

Derry have been in a Liverpool style meltdown for years. Yesterday should be a low enough point for them to do a root and branch shakedown of the county and club scene. As a Tyrone man though I love it! :D

Oh, and not looking forward to the Tyrone Donegal semi. Thinking Donegal might roll us over after that yesterday. I'll have to go up to that one.

Galway put on a cracking display of hurling today at O'Moore park against Offaly. Two goals in the first 3 minutes from Coner Cooney. Twenty six scores from both sides in the first thirty minutes a lone, end to end stuff.

Anyways it finished Galway 5-23 to 3-15 Offaly. Canning back from injury scored 11 points, he'll be absolutely vital for us against Kilkenny in the Leinster final, if he is on form we'll have a great chance of beating the cats.

I was listening to the Waterford v Clare match on the radio on the way back, sounded like a great game, looking forward to catching it on the Sunday game later.

I think ye'll beat Donegal, Derry were embarrasingly bad yesterday where as ye had a proper test against Armagh

An amazing finish to the Waterford Clare game. The Clare keeper had a great chance to make a hero of himself on his début with a free with the last chance of the game, but it was saved. Its a year too early for that Clare team, but they have loads of potential. Davy Fitz is class.

True. I'm looking forward to it. Saturday the 30th I think so I might get up to it depending on where it's on.

Feile weekend just finished in Laois/Offaly. It's an amazing weekend, one I have never been involved in before. 152 clubs sides, from all over Ireland, the States and the UK. Amazing organisation from an amazing organisation.

Results 23rd/24th June:

LSHC Kilkenny 2-21 Dublin 0-9, Portlaoise att:
MSHC Cork 0-24 Tipperary 1-22, Pairc Ui Chaoimh att:
AIHCQ Wexford 3-22 Westmeath 2-9, Wexford Park att:
AIHCQ Limerick 6-21 Laois 1-11, Gaelic Grounds att:

USFC Down 1-14 Monaghan 1-13, Armagh att:
CSFC Mayo 4-20 Leitrim 0-10, McHale Park att:

All matches going as expected. Tipp/Cork, like Waterford/Clare last week was very close to call but as I have tipped the Premier to win Munster out, I'd have sided with them.

Down's comeback from 9 points behind was testament to patience and not panicking. I haven't seen such a comeback since Meath's pair in the 96 final & replayed final.

I taped the Down game. Will watch shortly, I hear the ref was brutal.

Another cracker in Ulster!... Being a monaghan man, am obviously gutted.:( The peno before half time was changing of the game, it gave Down a belief going into the dressing room....... however, well done to the Mournemen!

I'll watch the highlights tonight when I get home. Who do you fancy in the other semi next weekend STG?

I fancied Tyrone for Ulster a few weeks ago, but after Donegals performances against Cavan & Derry, they look unstopable, I now fancy them for Ulster & Sam!........ Awesome fitness, workrate & a massive increase in their scoring power (since last year).

Thank God they improved on last year, but to be fair they had to do something. I think if someone from Tyrone can put the clampers on Murphy we can beat them, but it won't be easy. I expect a massive game, and if we had our full team I think we would turn them. Losing Sean Cavanagh and Kyle Coney is a massive loss! I was going to go up, but I think an afternoon in the bar will have to make do!

Just watched The Sunday Game from last night. Don't know if it's just the Poitín talking, but I can not wait for the game next weekend. First really big game of the championship and it should be a dinger. Since I'm not going to get up to the game (probably) the only question is, which pub do I try to watch it in??

Won't have the heart to go to any champo games this year I think, maybe next year!

Jake man, get yourself out and do the things you would have been doing before, especially if it's things you did together.

I know some of the games are over or are in progress at the moment. The teams above are my picks to win. I thought London would do a number on Antrim.

Seanie Johnston has "played" 30 seconds for his new club's hurling team to make him eligible for Kildare's footballers tomorrow. Thoughts?

4th edit...keep messing up

I think hurling (this is not new) needs some serious kickstarting.

There are 4 divisions in the hurling league, but I reckon that there are about 15 tiers.....I've listed the teams by tier, where the tier below would lose by, on average 5 points to a team in the tier above.

1 Kilkenny
2 Tipperary, Cork
3 Clare, Waterford, Limerick, Galway, Dublin
4 Wexford, Offaly
5 Laois
6 Antrim
7 Westmeath, Carlow
8 Kildare, Meath
9 London, Down, Derry, Kerry
10 Wicklow, Armagh, Roscommon
11 Monaghan, Louth, Fermanagh
12 Tyrone, Leitrim
13 Donegal, Sligo, Longford

The lowest tiers are just estimates but I will compare results to test the groupings.

A Cavan-man playing 30 seconds in a sport he has probably never played before, in order to play a different sport for his adopted county, to transfer to which was so full of holes and dodgy decisions, that there will probably be a tribunal about it 20 years.

There's nothing cynical in that at all. God bless Kildare.

You've left out Cork BP, I'd have them in tier 2 with Tipp along with Galway & Waterford too. And no matter what is done to try and kick start the hurling championship I can't see it making an ounce of difference, not while Kilkenny continue to hurl at the level they have been for the last decade or so. The feckers are so good that they are annoying! Imagine what a hurling championship we'd have if they weren't in it. They are miles ahead of the rest of the pack at the moment.

edit: You've included Cork now!

I still don't think they are a tier above Galway and Waterford though, only a puck of the ball between those 3 at the moment IMO. They've all beaten one another recently too, Galway hammered Cork last year and then went on to lose to Waterford in the semi.

Forgot Mayo & Cavan as well.

Have done the 2012 C'ship so far, including the Christy Ring, Lory Meaghar & Nicky Rackard cups (which one of them is the lowest ranked comp?). It is not scientific, but have compared the result to that expected from their grouping. If its less than 10 points out from the expected, then their respective grouping is accepted.

ie Tipp beat Cork last week by 1 point. They are in the same tier, so a draw could be expected. The actual result was out by 1 point.

Even today's scores have slotted in.

Question: Are Limerick heading for a record cumulative score for a single championship? They have tallied 15-65 in just 3 games so far and are surely due another 2/3 matches? I know they won't play Laois & Antrim again but still, they have been racking up some serious scores to date.

Feck it, I'll do it again. I know Tipp's & Cork's annihilations of Laois will screw my brilliant parameters up anyway. :nervous:

1 Kilkenny
2 Tipperary, Cork
3 Clare, Waterford, Limerick, Galway
4 Dublin
5 Wexford, Offaly
6
7 Laois, Westmeath
8
9 Antrim, Carlow
10
11 London, Derry, Down, Armagh,
12 Meath, Wicklow, Louth, Tyrone, Mayo
13 Kildare, Kerry,
14 Roscommon, Fermanagh
15 Donegal, Sligo, Longford
16 Monaghan, Leitrim, Cavan (?)

This must be the first time ever I'm up for Meath, and it feels dirty. But it's impossible to support Kildare after all that Johnston shite.

Decent game so far, far easier to watch than the Donegal/Tyrone game yesterday but that's probably not saying much.

Michael Collins at it again - acting the cnut - he's been a shite ref for 10 years now.

De Velera was right......he is only a bollix.

Yeah great win. Not many would have thought Meath would be playing in the Leinster final. Hopefully they keep the form up for two weeks time

feck me the dubs are making hard work of this.

Wexford should be a fair bit ahead now, alot of wides from brosnan in particular.
But playing agaisnt a sub par dublin with a man extra they should be ahead. They wont get a better chance to beat Dublin.

I have to admit I'm not a big GAA man but if Meath are playing Dublin in a Leinster final I'll be in the city for it. Nothing beats watching hill 16 go quiet, come on the Royals!

are you a meath man?

should be a good clash. Ill go to it meself.

Aye, apart from the last couple of years when I was in Australia I'd be at all the Croke Park matches. As I said I'm not a big GAA man but it's a great day out when we're playing in Croker and shut those Dubs up!
