Gaa 2012

Agreed TBP!

We're going to have to ramp up this thread if it's going to be as good as previous years. Whose been missing? RHD I know but who else?

Football championship is kicking off this weekend. Some good games to look forward to as well, Roscommon against Galway probably being the pick of them.

Leinster: Longford v Laois

Munster: Limerick v Waterford

Ulster: Cavan v Donegal

Connacht: Roscommon v Galway

Technically, it has already kicked off with Sligo beating New York 2 weeks ago;)

So with it properly kicking off this week, Im predicting wins for Donegal, Limerick and Laois. Roscommon vs Galway could be tight, and I wouldnt be surprised if Roscommon knicked it, but I still think Galway should win.

Predictions for provincial winners?

Leinster- Dublin

Munster-Fecking tough one to call, but Im predicting Kerry.

Ulster-Tough as always. Any one of Down, Armagh, Tyrone, Donegal, Monaghan and Derry all have realistic chances of winning it. Dont even know who to go for.

Connacht- Mayo for me.

Westmeath beaten by a last minute goal v louth. 5 mins into injury time. :(
The dream of a glorious double of two opening round wins is over.

Hard luck on Westmeath gregster. Galway hammered Roscommon in their own back yard & that's the main thing!

I hope Alan Mulholland gets enough time with this Galway side now because he had them playing lovely football today something Galway hadn't done in a few years now. The game was as good as wrapped up after 20 mins. It was great to see Michael Meehan coming on in the 2nd half & having an instant impact too setting up Gary Sice for a goal. Meehan on his day is arguably one of the best forwards in the country. Next up Sligo in a fortnights time at Pearse stadium.

Today's Results:

Galway 3-15 - 0-10 Roscommon

Westmeath 0-14 - 2-09 Louth

Longford 1-10 - 0-12 Laois

Cavan 1-10 - 1-16 Donegal

Where is RHD?

Dunno, but him and Crerand Legend used to keep this thread motoring along.

Shocker of a first weekend for Football. Really disappointed at Cavan and The Rossies especially. I thought they would put up a better fight. Ah well, at least the championship is back again and we can all sit back and watch Tyrone stroll Barcelona like to their forth championship!!

Anybody watching Limerick and Tipp, absolute cracking game. Limerick playing some great hurling and defending brilliantly

Love weekends like that. We Irish are blessed with Summer sport, especially on years like this when the Soccer team qualify.

True that, just hope the weather stays now. Consensus down here is that Cork will probably beat us, we are definitely going through a transitional period of sorts

Not a bad side for a transitional period. I'm kinda hoping that this year will mark the emergence of the second great Mickey Harte team. I don't think we'll be good enough to win the whole thing yet, but I hope we play decent football and get to the semi's at least.

Massive blow. I've not heard an awful lot yet as I was away all weekend, but he fecked something playing club. I must do some research.

Longford and Wexford drew 2-9 to 15 points. Longford should've won from what I saw, and may suffer the usual underdog replay defeat.

Dublin and Louth starting now. Dublin to win by 7 points.

Didn't have the heart to go to the match today, I've never went without my dad.

Some good games today.

Munster SFC semi-final
Cork v Kerry, 2pm

Leinster SFC quarter-final
Carlow v Meath, 2pm

Leinster SFC quarter-final replay
Longford v Wexford, 4pm

Ulster SFC quarter-final
Armagh v Tyrone, 2pm

Missed everything yesterday coz the bloody kids. FFS, first I had to bring their mother to the hospital to have them be born...but it didn;t stop there. Nooooo, it never stops.

Was The Sunday Game on last night?

Aye, It was on after the Ireland game. The Sligo Galway and he Tyrone Armagh games are worth catching. Cork and Kerry was shit.

The championship is starting to heat up nicely. I'm sure Cork will improve soon, and Ulster will give competitive Tyrone and Donegal teams. Dublin will be a force, and with Sligo and Mayo to come there will be a surprise or two to come. Love this!!

Kerry people cant take a joke, I was working yesterday, the locals know I'm a Corkman so when they came in they asked "what is the score in the game?", I shrugged and said "Sure we dont kick off till 8pm against Croatia". Didnt help though that Kerry got a bit of a battering, made a few enemies....

The Armagh v Tyrone game was a good one to watch. Thought Armagh were going to pull it out of the bag towards the end!

 Love that. Hard to beat winding up the hardcore GAA heads!

The Ulster game was a good one alright especially in the first half where there was less cynical fouling. Some unreal points taken!

Derry Donegal certainly does threaten to be a dour affair, but really Donegal and Jim McGuinness have had another year to work on tactics. Surely he has to recognize that you will only get so far playing 14 behind the ball and tweek the system a small amount. Derry always have the potential for explosive scoring on their day so I'll live in hope.

Worst comes to worst Ulster will always win the fight at least!

Feck off langer!!!

LSHC Galway v Offaly, Portlaoise
MSHC Clare v Waterford, Thurles
USFC Armagh v Derry, Armagh

LSFC Offaly v Kildare, Portlaoise

Kildare ought to win by about 20 points. Offaly below shite at this stage. Offaly hurlers will test Galway to some extent, but will come up short. Davy Fitz facing Waterford, but the Deise will sicken his hole with a beating. Armagh & Derry face off in a match that no-one cares about. Armagh hurling in a resurgence, so some good work must be going on up there.

Well Derry's championship run was good while it lasted.

Results from yesterday:

USFC Donegal 2-13 Derry 0-9
LSFCR Meath 2-21 Carlow 1-9

Donegal shaping well for the Ulster (semi) final v Tyrone next time out. That Derry team has to be the worst they have had in 25 years.

Meath showed that life in Division 3 next year will be a stroll for them.
