Gaa 2011

Jesus he was brutal eh?!

I really had high hopes for him in this match but he froze. He's a young lad tho, so hopefully he'll learn from playin on an occasion like this, its not easy thats for sure!

Oh, i dont get the "eleven" part man, whats that?

He'll be grand, saturday wasn't about him, and at least he moved about the park looking to contribute.

I watched that play off in the Great Norhtern hotel in Bundoran, and I can tell you that to a man we were all shouting for Harrington and praying for him to win. I can't comment on what you saw but it was different to the attitudes of every smelly countryman I spoke to.

And me a Tyrone manure man just recently argued with several of your cosmopoliton collegues regarding Robbie Keanes status as a legend. Me being for more complimentary than all your buddies.

I'm sure RHD like myself have no problem taking a bit of abuse on-line, but for a little shit like that to say that he thinks booing legends of the game is fine, and compare it to other non-related issues just to justify his position shows he a twat.

Absolutely not man, its good banter. Your man was spouting nonsense tho & creating a seige mentality for himself..

Moses as usual is on a wind-up, with some truth thrown in aswell!

The lead guitarist in the cult mockumentary "Spinal Tap" has a guitar amp that goes up to 11 on the volume scale which he is very proud of. When asked by the interviewer why doesen't he just revamp it so as "11" becomes "10" he replies, "but this goes to eleven" with a hilarious confused look on his face.

, class show

Slightly off topic but here's a little story that would have been a big story had Tyrone won.
Peter Harte used earphones while practising his freetaking during training last week with "Come on you Boys in Blue" playing at full volume so as to prepare himself for taking frees towards the Hill 16 end during the match.

In hindsight perhaps he should have turned the volume up to "eleven" a la Spinal Tap.

 If it worked it would have been a masterstroke. I'd say it's serious intimidating for a young fella to be taking them free's into that Hill crowd.

A degree of jeering and booing a legend bewteen the first and last whistle is ok in my book; there are no sacred cows in sport, we all accept what an amazing team they have been, but when they are the oppo they are the oppo. Dublin players take guff too. I have no problem discussing this breach of the rather flexible moral code were it not solely aimed at Dubs.

edit - just for the record, I attend games and never boo the opposition, I do tend to hurl insults at players like Mulligan, is that ok? Anyway the booing goes on by both sets of fans in most games. So the outrage is slightly hyporitical.

It's not hypocritical though. I rarely hear booing at games that don't involve Dublin. That's the truth. It's not a flexable moral code. I think it's bullshit whoever does it. Also I don't think that targeting amatuer players out for personal insults is OK.

Steady on there, Irwin.

Why, they are some of the best players in the last ten years.

What do you want from a crowd of ovwer 50,000 people, no swearing either?

And I am rarely at a game without Dublin but at Dublin games it goes both ways.

On days when teams aren't hammered the way Tyrone were their fans would be proud that their players silenced the Hill, and rightfully, bit it's nonsense to whine about it when you lose. It happens, and it's not the travesty you lads are making it out to be.

Wow no booing allowed at a sporting event. Is it Victorian England or something over there?

I see Moses goes & PM's his buddies - "quick get over to the Gaa thread i need your help.... its not fair.."

You need a blog not a forum mate. There you can spout whatever you like with people having the cheek to disagree. I PM'd nobody btw.

You say that you're rarely at games without Dublin, yet you're having a go at us for saying that it doesn't really happen too often when other teams are playing and that we don't think it's right.

Of course you think it's right to boo, you're a Dub. Go into Markievicz Park the next time Sligo are playing like I do and see if you hear Booing and Jeering that you seem to think is so wide spread and common. The only reason you always hear both sets of fans doing it at games are because the Dubs always start it and everyone else lowers themselves to that level.

Didn't need to, whinging buggers, ooh they boo'd us during a sporting event, get real.

That's not what I said, I said at Dublin games the abuse goes both ways.

I also never said it was common, just that it works both ways. I did however say that it was hard for a crowd of 50,00 to sound any other way, and it is. Have you heard the noise at a large gig if a band is 10 minutes late onto a stage?

And as for the 'they started it' defence. Classic.

also someone whinging about booing at a sports game parodying about things being not fair. Hah!

You're wasting your time man, Moses is never wrong... you need to rethink everything & then bow down to his greatness!

Grow up, it's my opinion that a bit of stick during play is ok. After the whistle it's no hard feelings and all have a drink together. Apart obviously from the ones who were hurt by the jeering and then abuse anyone who has a different opinion.

Really you are shit at not giving a feck what I think.

Quoting myself for accuracy here.

"The only reason you always hear both sets of fans doing it at games are because the Dubs always start it and everyone else lowers themselves to that level."

If you don't go to games not involving Dublin how do you know if what I'm saying is true or not? You are making assumptions based on what you think you know. Not usually the wisest thing to do.

As I said, go to a game in Sligo or Castlebar next summer and see if you hear booing from the start of the game? I know you won't, so then maybe you'll understand my arguement. OK, if you were brought up going to games where everyone boo's you probably do think it's OK, but if you'd be a brave man to do that in a club game at home.

On that subject. Do the Jacks boo at club games too, or is it only when you get to County level?

No there is no booing at any club match I've been at. The Dublin v Whoever rivalry is different from most other rivalries for lots of reasons (on both sides - it's not just a Dub thing, other teams love beating the Dubs and always have and it adds to the championship) but it is different and in those games the guff goes both ways. Like I say I'm always too tense to boo, being more fixed on willing the ball wide (I presume that's allowed?) The oppo fans arrive at Croker much more wound up than at any other fixture or so they have said to me.

Im my mind it just happens and maybe it's a chararcter flaw but I barely even hear it when it happens; and like all of the rivalry I leave it after the whistle goes.

For a rough & ready lot, in general, I can't for the life of me quite fathom how "precious" the Tyrone lads have become in here.
Jaysus next yis will be applauding Orange marchers and maintaining a dignified silence when listening to Mrs. Windsor's anthem!

1) Croker is not Dublins home ground, and ergo other fixtures do occus there. I know that's difficult for Dub's to understand, what with you God given right to the Hill and all that.
2) You are right in a sense though. I love going to a Dublin Vs Tyrone game for all the reasons you have given, great atmosphere, slagging between supporters in the Stand, the ability for Dublin fans to take slagging as well as giving it, and the unbelievable noise generated when Come on ye boys in Blue gets going. It is all brilliant, but I totally reserve the right to say that I think that booing and abusing amatuer players who give up so much for so many is totally wrong.

I take issue with that comment. How dare you say I'm rough and ready.

Are you just looking for things to take issue with? I'm a Dublin fan, the other fans are the opposition, that implies nothing about God given rights. There are some chips on shoulders in this thread!

And I respect that opinion about the booing, I just think the players are made of sterner stuff. The post match atmosphere has no residue of anything that happens during the game.

Ahh for God sake - stop playing the victim - watch the game again if you can & you'll see something you dont get unless its the dubs playin - "feck them / we do what we want" fans attitude!

The dubs take giving stick to a different level - its not banter, its lack of respect & they come to Croker fecked out of their heads & end up abusive... "us against the world", siege mentality, serious mental insecurity issues to be precise!

Ask anyone who lives around Croker & they'll tell ya they dread the "minority" of Dublin football fans at Croker because they have no respect for property, cars or themselves... pissing all over houses etc.. they are a feckin nightmare & most of them dont give a feck about football or know anything about the club teams or who won the Dublin Championship or even who won the Leinster Championship for that matter!

Gaelic games are a world away from what went on last Saturday night & only a Dub would disagree that they were out of order... If that was us or any other County doin that, you wouldnt see us justifying it like you've been doin...

As for being referred to as "sensitive" blah blah... are the rest of the Country sensitive aswell or maybe we just adhere to the moral codes of the Gaa!

Dublin fans need to realise this isnt England, where yob culture / mob rule is the nature of the game...

Nialler, could you please at least delete the second post that happens every time you post. Its bad enough having to read them once, but twice....

See, I knew you were pussy footing around your dislike for us. As for playing the victim, that's you surely? I'm arguing for give and take and move on.

So you do give a feck now? It's hard to keep up.

Lol, I know, everytime I post a quick reply I get a message saying I have to wait 30 between posts even though I haven't posted in ages then when I repost it comes up twice :wenger:

Right boy's, maybe we should all drop this, because this thread is going dangerously close to being one that people will really fall out in. The nature of this thread has always been good, so how about we keep it that way.

Not if we don't abuse each other, I find it very interesting to be honest.

Well in fairness it's hard to fathom what is and isn't serious, I'm in disbelief at all of it to be honest.

This is what I want to ask RHD: how do you discern normal booing which you described as acceptable earlier in the thread, from more aggressive, 'disrespectful' booing?

It's a cacophony at Croker when Dublin get going. How can you tell the difference is what I'm asking. And were you at the game?

Edit: don't know why I quoted moses' post there.

I think I've said it quite clearly that booing players taking free's is totally disrespectful and uncalled for. You wouldn't see it at most Rugby games where a free taker gets the respect of both sets of fans. I think that this is proper order.

Also if you don't think that the sustained booing of Tyrone players a few of whom were probably playing the last game of very successful careers, and with all that happened this year to Mickey was bad form there is no point in talking to you about it.

I forgot to say in this thread already BTW that the men and woman who ran from their seats at the end of the game to shake Mickey's hand and give him a gift are true GAA fans. This is how all the Dubs (and all other fans) should be trying to behave themselves at games.

You can support your own team without being disrespectful to the opposition.
