Gaa 2010

Was a great match alright, I was up in the Cusack Stand, what a view. Last few mins were torture, thought the ref was never gonna blow the final whistle. Fancy us for the final and think I have tickets sorted already :-) Can't wait! Go on Down!

Was talking in pub yesterday about the great John Joe O'reilly of Cavan who won more honours than I have time to list. There was debate as to how he died so I checked it this morning, he died of injuries sustained at a club match in 1952 he was just 33, so very tragic and I am amazed I didn't know this, must have been an awful injury

Delighted for Down.. Great result for them.

Heart torn between Cork or Down. Probably want Cork to win it now.

Hope to feck whoever wins invades the pitchs and the GAA stops this Hill 16 nonsense

Quite a depressing day yesterday. Never really expected Earley to play so I think it was just teasing to name him in the team during the week. The Flourbags always seemed to be chasing the game yesterday once Down got ahead, although it doesn't help when your legitimate points don't count and your opponent's illegitimate goals do. Them's the breaks I guess. On balance Down probably deserved to win, the dodgy decisions simply leave a bitter taste in the mouth. Oh well, here's hoping McGeeney signs up for another term.

Hard luck mate you didn't get the rub of the green no doubt but in fairness I thought that Down were slightly the better team as you say. Anyway I will be rooting for Down, never forgave Cork for not replaying the minor all Ireland semi in 2001

I live in Cork and they probably earned at least one championship given their performances over the last few years. That said I'm not too bothered who wins the final, I certainly don't have any animosity towards Down just because they got a couple of lucky breaks. Mind you if I end up watching it in a pub in Cork and see any hot women in Cork jerseys be damn sure I'll be shouting as loud as possible for the Rebels! Needs must and all that!

No one could blame you for that !!

Really impressed with the level of football this year. Marty Clarke is a great ball player and the Down team play good ball. I was disappointed for the Dubs but I think they were naive and that game against Cork was a character builder if ever I saw one. The two semi finals were great entertainment and I hope the final will deliver. Some of the points taken by Clarke and Coulter yesterday were fantastic. Great to see it and long may it continue!

Congrats to Down & condolences to Kildare. Was a great game & I'm delighted for my Ulster Brethren - job well done lads - with a bitta luck thrown in for good measure too...

Met a load of Down oul lads on Saturday in the pub for the United game & they were sound fellas, very respectful of the Gaa, all its values & other Counties & their players...

The final's gonna be a good game & I'm hopin for a Down & Tyrone one-two

Derry ref may quit after assault...

The referee who was allegedly struck by Derry star Eoin Bradley after a weekend club championship game is considering his future in the game.

Dungiven official Declan O'Connor was assaulted after Bradley's club Glenullin lost their Derry SFC quarter-final to Ballinascreen on Saturday. The Derry CCC will meet tomorrow night to discuss the referee's report and if Bradley is found to have stuck the official, he faces a minimum 48-weeks suspension.

O'Connor said: "I'm considering pulling the pin as far as refereeing is concerned. I have been doing it now for 22 years and have done everything including the senior county final in 2001 and 2008. I am just thinking about my family now. I enjoyed myself up until the last couple of years - until things started to get out of control which has a lot to do with clubs and their discipline.

"There's no way of getting around that, the referee always gets the blame for everything."

Derry chairman John Keenan has promised a thorough investigation into the incident and has vowed to clamp down on such incidents.

"It's a matter for the Competitions Control Committee but we will have to deal with it. I said last week that we would have to have respect for referees but this is not acceptable," he said in the Irish Examiner.

"We will not accept it. There will be a zero tolerance approach for physically abusing referees, we have to take a strong stand against it."

The Derry lads on here could tell us a thing or two of what goes on. I'd say they'll throw the book at Bradley & quite rightly so if he did strike O'Connor!

Curran defends Monaghan board's stance..

Have to agree with you RHD!

I am livid :devil::mad: the way they treated Banty. When he took over 6yrs ago, we at our lowest ever ( by a mile) ranked 28. Ok, we have no major trophy to show, but we are in Div1, probably top 8 in rankings, 2 Ulster finals & a D2 trophy!

Banty would have went, if he felt he could not bring this team any further. However, he made it clear that they could go further, therefore he agreed with the Executive to stay on for another 3 yrs.

Still....... it's the usual scenario of "stupid cnuts know best".

Monaghan chairman Paul Curran has defended the county board's stance in the row over Seamus McEnaney's departure as manager.

McEnaney decided last week not to reapply for the position he has held for the last six years after club delegates voted 29-19 in favour of seeking nominations for the post.

"As a result of nominations the clubs of Monaghan sent a very clear signal that this management team has got the maximum out of this bunch of players," Curran said in the Irish News.

"There is a strong mood for change. That's it. That's not trying to be disrespectful. Maybe it's time for a change. Maybe it's time for a fresh voice and a fresh face."

The Clontibret clubman feels that the current side will need an injection of new blood in the near future and is working hard to ensure there is a conveyor belt of talent in Monagahn.

"My focus is putting structures in place at underage so that we have a regular supply of players and not what we've had over the last few years, a staggered supply.

"If Seamus had been able to replace some of these players they wouldn't have had to go on for so long and we wouldn't have so many players thinking of retiring right now. At some point we have to face these problems and we may be facing that problem right now."

I dont know about you man, but he comes across as very negatively regarding Banty.... thats bad craic!

Just had all the St Galls Lads in with me since they used my place as their team builder on the saturday before their big game in March. First time since March 17th that the ST galls players got together themselves away from club and ceremonies and enjoyed themselves. First time the lads had a three week break and Lenny let them loose in here

been in since 5pm and just left all pissed. Great bunch of lads. Got myself a signed St Galls All Ireland jersey presented to me by them as well.

Karl Stewart the most gifted with a Golf club

The sacrifices these lads make for an amateur game is extraordinary. Glad to hear they had a wicked time..

He hit the ref and deseves what is coming, some punishment already been administered by friends of the ref in the form of a good hiding in Cookstown on Saturday night, which I dont approve of either. Unlike two very famous Ulster Gaa personalities from other an Ulster county who did likewise this wont be swept under the carpet

Amazing, he is one of the Execs. who were delighted to grant Banty 3 more years!.....it really is "head-scratching" time!..... Anyway, we have to move on!

Very, very honourable Mister J. , my condolences, very well said/posted. Having always "followed" Down (after Monaghan), I was delighted Down won...... but at the same time, like most people would have a "soft spot" for Kildare. Anyway, hard luck, I now hope Down go "all the way"!

Bradley was feckin daft goin out there. Cookstown is & always will be a fighting town. I dont condone him gettin a hiding either, but if he smacked the ref as opposed to a small jab - then he deserves to get a dig back, but not a kicking!

Wrong place, wrong time, wrong choice of goin out & wrong choice to smack a referee...

Cheers STG. We've had 82 years of disappointment so we're better prepared than most at dealing with it!

Cheers RHD, we can but dream!

Try not to be too down about it, I know how you feel tho - it was a lost opportunity to win Sam, given that Kerry & Tyrone were out?

It still does my head in that Tyrone lost to the Dubs. I was gutted for a long time just like I was in 1986 & 1995. You get over it in time but its still a killer & sickening feeling in the stomach. Although i'd imagine you didnt get Down fans rubbing it in your face. Hate losing to Dublin - some very poor victors amongst them

What you should do is support the Tyrone Minors against Cork :D

I'll wear a Tyrone jersey in whatever pub I watch it in Cork, then come the seniors I'll take it off to reveal a Down jersey underneath! And I'll be very mouthy to boot so none of the cnuts can miss me! It'll be like the time I wore a Milan jersey when they bet Liverpool in 2007, pub was full of the f*ckers, nearly got lynched!

Thats the type of shit that i'm talking about muthafukka - I like yo'style

Eoin Bradley banned for 48 weeks although a loss to Derry, you cannot thump the ref

TBh CL, I'd prefer a lifetime ban for this kind of thing. If he really seriously thumped the ref he should be gone for good. I would be saying the same if it was Mulligan or the Gooch. If a fan comes onto the field and thumps the ref he's gone for good. The same should apply to players.

No mention yet of the Hurling final??

Is it a coincidence that were all from football counties and we all are on a soccer forum??

that said, what a game the final was. I know that Tipp won it by a nice margin, but it was a fairly tight game up to the last few minutes. I thought it was excellent. Its an amaxing game to watch especially if you can get on board with one of the teams. I was shouting for Tipp myself. it would have been nice to see the cats get the 5 in a row, but the tipp lads played as if their lives depended on it. That game should be showed to some of the pampered soccer stars to show what true comitment is!!

Well done Tipp, I was always waiting for Kilkenny to come back and just pip them but it never happened, great victory and well deserved

Ye, great win for Tipp..... a fab game. I thought Cats made a mistake starting Shefflin. He wouldf have been a great impact/booster sub to bring in for last 15 mins. As it was, it must have been devastating for the Cats to see him leave so early.

Good post man

I've been keepin my head down in work, so posting on here hasnt been an option this past few days. Well played Tipp. I fancied them to win tbh, i just felt Tipp had the bigger hunger & desire to take their chance of All-Ireland glory!

Hard luck Kilkenny tho. They're still the best of all-time in my opinion regardless of not gettin number 5!

the Ma was disappointed with the loss on Sunday and she mentioned it about Shefflin too. congrats to Tipp though, they seemed well up for it.

I agree with that. Congrats to the Tipp folks btw, outstanding match and the best team won

Just watching the Kildare-Down semifinal here in the states. It's on a weird channel and I just came across it. This is only the 3rd or 4th GAA match I've ever seen and this is quite fun. (I've still never been able to watch a hurling match).

Glad you enjoyed! Try RTÉ Ireland's National Television and Radio Broadcaster Not sure if their media player is available outside Ireland. However, the all-Ireland final Down v Cork is live next Sun @3.30 gmt. The final is usually available live on the "worldwide web" at above address!

I'll look into it but whenever I try to catch Ireland internationals on RTE.com it doesnt work. Perhaps they'll make an exception for a final.

All Ireland Gold
A chance to see the 2003 All-Ireland Football Semi-Final between Tyrone and Kerry which was played in Croke Park. The game ended with the scoreline Tyrone 0-13 Kerry 0-06.

One of the seminal moments in Tyrone football. Overcoming the mighty Kerry team in an All-Ireland semi-final at Croke Park in Style. I was in the Hill for this game, and have never actually seen it on TV.

Can't wait!!!

Anybody in Manchester on Sunday like myself for the Liverpool game looking for some where close to OT showing the All Ireland final. I know of Oshea's in the city centre but with the traffic after the match by the time you get there it will be well over
