Fullbacks for the summer

Meunier would almost certainly be eager for a move to us as he's a self-confessed Utd fan and would like to play in England some day, plus he's not happy with how things went at PSG this season. The big problem as you said would be convincing PSG to sell, particularly with Alves getting injured.

He may be a United fan, but I don't know how important that is to him when it comes to his playing career. Personally I think it would just be a bonus if he were to play for United some day. Let's face it, going from PSG to United these days isn't much of an upgrade. Sure, he'd face stiffer competition in the prem, but at PSG he's playing with the likes of Neymar and Verratti. They've simply got a better team. Add to that he would face competition from both Valencia and Young at United, wheras he wouldn't be having as much competition for his spot at PSG considering Alves' injury and age. I don't think it's an attractive proposition for him at this moment in time. I hope I'm wrong though. Would love to see him at United.

I like Benjamin Henrichs from Leverkusen. He's been used as a winger as well, but his tackling and positioning are great for his age.

Meunier and Sandro would be the dream. Would instantly transform our team.

Other top teams rely on their FB's as vital parts of the team in attack, meanwhile we try to hide away ours.

I have a feeling that Meunier is being overrated on here.

I doubt most of the people saying we should sign him have even seen him play a full game. I learnt with Darmian not to trust the opinions on here for defenders. Same with Lindelof last year.

Seen him plenty for Belgium. He would be a huge upgrade on Valencia, his crossing is spot on, just check out all his assists for Lukaku for the NT.

I expect that's what the hype is based on. 2 against Gibraltar in a 9-0 (2nd was well offside) and 1 against Greece.

Seems to be plenty of left-backs around but no real outstanding RB. Not one we can get easily anyway.

I just want us to sign young exciting full-backs, with pace.

we have one in the academy. a young Irish plyer called Lee O"Connor. will be a star

Rafael Da Silva :(

He had everything Carvajal has for Madrid, it's such a shame the shithousery that's gone on transfer wise at our club after SAF left.

He’s undeniably a good player. Dunno if hes great but considering we dont really have a RB Id be happy with him. I class Valencia as half a RB

I liked the look of Saar from Marseille last night, although I havent seen him play alot

I agree, look a decent player. The quality was so poor from Marseille last night I'm not sure he was the best of a bad bunch though.

IMO Florenzi could be a good option. What do you think of him?

I'd also add that we would have zero chance of getting anywhere near City if we go into next season with a back four that includes Valencia/Young.
Two fullbacks absolutely have to be priority signings, surely?

I agree. 2 full backs need to be brought in, as Valencia and Young are getting on.

I also would like to see a workhorse and leader in midfield brought in. A new Roy Keane would be nice.

Sidibe and Alex Sandro would be my preferred full backs also wouldn’t say no to Cancelo.

Any good and available british right backs around? I always like our team to have some british talent in the first team and right back is a spot that is available. I can't think of any. Tierney would be a great buy at left back but it seems like we are going for Sandro, who I like as well.

Slightly left-field suggestion (pun intended) but what about Bertrand?

Well Ashley Young has been preferred over him at LB for the WC squad, so probably not good enough.

He was really good for Southampton past couple of years but hasn't really progressed from that. Plus he'll be 29 by the time the season starts which is retirement age according to the Caf.

Sidibe and Alex Sandro for me, if I had to choose.
Agreed! I would love to see the pair of them here. Not seen us inked with many right backs but I feel it's an area we need to invest in. On the other hand I hope Alex Sandro gets sorted even before the world cup.

It's going you be a busy summer for us.

Really feel that in Valencia, Young, TFM, Lindelof, and Bailly we have enough to cover right back for another season, so long as we acquire a top quality left back with some attacking instincts.

I have a feeling it'll just be Sandro, with Young and Valencia alternating at RB for 2018/19. Then a RB will be signed next summer.

Shaw, Blind and Darmian will all be sold.

RB - Valencia/Young/TFM
LB - Sandro/Young/Mitchell maybe, back from loan.

I'd have Nordi Mukiele on my radar as a RB and CB option. Fast, aggressive tackler who can also dribble and find creative passes. He could work as both a ball playing CB and a right back or right wing back depending on our system. He's only 20 but already played 2 seasons to a good level. Unfortunately he's linked with Chelsea rather than ourselves.

Desperate for a right back and right winger, we’re so poor down the right.

90% of our attacks ended up with the ball to Young and Valencia, and they did feck all with it.

I hate to criticise Mourinho, but the fault does fall to him. He should've signed better. Or at least played Shaw.

I was thinking exactly the same, the number of times it got to them and I would be yelling at them to get a ball in, but no, check back, look around, wait for Chelsea (and every other sodding team) to get back in shape, before passing it sideways and trying again.

Sandro and Sidibe / Munier / any other RB are vital and are the only reason I'm not full blown "Jose out" right now. If we have fullback who can take someone on and quickly get balls in, we might actually have a chance of....you know...scoring.

It's not good enough, no delivery, no taking on people, no speed, no fecking hope. 2011 called United time for a wake up call, not enough quality. Phil Jones made a horrible mistake today but our problems with width are glaring. Anyone that can't see it needs a right kick up the backside.

Leicester have signed Ricardo Pereira.

Just saying.
brilliant signing so early in the window, fills a need we've had for years and means no more having to watch Danny Simpson get a nose bleed at the half way line

Has anybody here seen Wendell of Bayer Leverkusen play? Heard PSG are interested in him, Also he is not only a typical Brazilian full back going forward but has great tackle in him too.

You have a short memory, Raf was great but just like Jones...was always injured.
It was his time to go

This I agree with, the fullback (and RW) situation is on Jose.
The deficiencies in the squad have been glaringly obvious for a long time now.

After making the signings we did we didnt have enough to buy new fullbacks. That’s why we are doing it this summer.
