Fullbacks for the summer

Slap £60m down on Porto's table for Telles and Ricardo Pereira, both been pretty frightening this season. Would like Sandro but I reckon it will be £60m alone for him. I'd still go all out for Ricardo Pereira, seems to be available for around £25m

I've never seen them play for a full 90 minutes but I agree because PES said they're gonna turn into monsters.:D

Marcelo and Alaba bombing down the wings all game shows just how important getting top full backs in for us would be. Arguably Real and Bayern's best players today.

Absolutely spot on there, both have looked awesome. That whole game showed what quality wide players utilised correctly can do. Ribery was immense too.

No full back would ever be bombing down the wings for us. Maureen likes his FB to defend and we play with very little width.

Wasn't Marcelo Jose's LB at Real?

He replaced him with Coentrao remember.
As Marcelo's back up iirc. Marcelo made more appearances every season bar one, where he made 19. I'd assume he was injured that season.

I seem to remember Maicon running up and down and even getting a goal for Inter vs Barca in 2010. Valencia sort of used to do it for us last season. I really think it's the players, Valencia's regressed even more this season, and Young's right footed which takes away the natural width. Put Marcelo or Alaba in our team and we'd step up a level.

Instead TFM, I would like United try their best effort to snatch Odriozola. We need fullback that eagerly to cross the ball into penalty box. Been watched Odriozola for entire season with Sociedad and his performance almost consistent every matchs.

Is Thomas Meunier good enough offensively to be our fullback? I know he's not terribly fast, and one of the reasons Chelsea fans have wanted a new left wing-back is because of Alonso's lack of pace.

I got a feeling that we will not buy RB this summer. LB is higher on Joses list and we have to invest a lot of money to midfield. 1 or 2 midfielders are coming in. And if we will play 3-5-2, CB is a must. Those three would cost 140-180M. AS 50-60M, SMS 70-80M, CB ~30M... We are not going to net spend more than 150M i guess. If somebody wait like 5 signings, i guess he will get dissapointed. My guess is that we will not get more than four and maybe only two or three. CB, LB and 1-2 midfielders.

He's better offensively than defensively... He was an attacker/winger until 19/20 years old.

Not exactly promising for our hopes of new fullbacks...

Did you expect him to say that Young is crap and will be replaced next season?

Did you expect him to say that he wants Young to make over 50 appearances next season?

if we go into next season with young and valencia as starting fullbacks, can guarantee we wont be in the title race again. Fullbacks are just too important to have voids in both of them. They are absolutely vital in breaking down defending teams by providing needed width, as well as pinning back top teams by forcing them to defend instead of themselves attacking down the flanks.

Yes I expect him to big up his current player who's gonna play in a very important cup finals in just two weeks.

100% this, it's the major difference in quality between us and City, hence Pep addressing the issue last summer. If Jose cannot see this I genuinely worry about his tactical credentials and tink we will see a repeat of this season.

Delph over Young is by no way be the major difference between us.

Anyone that can supply Fellaini and Lukaku crosses won't be easily gotten rid off. Hopefully we at least try to replace he and Valencia

He aint bigging up his current players whom he will need if Lukaku continues to be out for the rest of the season.

Im done with Jose and have accepted us being shit until he goes.

If Young will be so key, he could be planning to sign a LB and move Young to RB since Young carries more threat going forward than Valencia. How many goals did we score this season off Young's crosses?

Pep utilizes his FB more as midfielders than wingers in attack. City wingers stay wide allowing space for KDB, Silva and the rest to operate centrally. Our wingers all cut inside and rarely stay along the line which creates congested centrally and at times makes us so predicable, having FB on both sides that can put in a good cross and create that threat wide will be huge difference next year (assuming we upgrade).

Sane provides natural width on the left but Delph expends a huge amount of energy and has been crucial to their system. Walker has been debatably world class.

That obviously isn't what Pep planned for though considering he paid 50m for an overlapping fullback in Mendy who he hasn't been able to use..
The issue is that tactically they're quite obviously miles ahead of us. Young and Valencia have actually contributed almost equal numbers of goals/assist to Citys entire roster of fullbacks this season. Considering that one of those two is Antonio Valencia that's not very impressive.
Still they stand 17 points ahead of us.

Hopefully he doesn’t mean that  no offence to Young but we need to improve our fullbacks.

Tbf Young has been pretty decent this season, if we are to bring a FB in then Fabinho surely ticks a few boxes.

I don't mind Young, he's a great character and loves playing for the club. 100% effort and has actually done well a FB. But through no fault of his own, he should be back-up at best due to being right footed. Full-back is the one position I would say where you need to be the same footed as the side you play on especially nowadays, it makes such a difference to the whole team especially going forward.

Maicon, Marcelo, Ivanovic...

Do you just make shite up and hope it sticks?

Have we been linked to a right back lately? I have seen rumors but just related with left backs.

He was good for the first half of the season (once he won the battle for that spot again). He's been fairly average in the second half.

Overall Young has been comfortably our best fullback over the last two or three seasons, which is kind of sad since he has started every season as third or fourth choice before getting his chance when everyone else has failed.

I don't think we have tbh. Worrying, as we need both, I can't see us mounting a proper title challenge without both.

I really enjoyed Alex Sandro in Porto. Then we replaced him with Alex Telles whom is nowhere below. One of the players with more assists on Europe, his crosses are amazing.

Two full backs and a RW pretty please Jose. I hate to be a transfer muppet as in recent years we've needed near on a whole team, but this year I feel was almost have a very good team. Those 3 could really make us into a top, top team.

Hard to see who though. Haven't watched Sessegnon at all and Alex Sandro has been poor this season for Juve. But Pool have two good, inexpensive full backs, so there must be some solid options out there. Much better than the likes of Darmian anyhow.

Yeah if we're not in for a LW and a Shaw renaissance isn't the reason I have absolutely no clue what the feck Mourinho is thinking.

Our fullbacks provide basically nothing.
