If Barcelona have already agreed a fee with United and need De Jong gone, I’m struggling to think of a reason why they took him on tour.

I’m expecting “player goes on tour with contracted club shocker”

But leaving him home wouldn’t affect the price they got and would have been a big sign that he’s not wanted. And taking him risks injury

I think it's pretty clear what i wanted us and the manager to do. Not put everything on one player who doesn't want to join. Surely a top manager can work with an alternative. There are plenty of players in the world and plenty of managers who don't get their first choice every time
Show me solid definitive proof that he doesn't want to join. Not the reports of him saying he'd rather stay at Barca, but ones where he says "I do not want to join Manchester United".
You won't find anything, because they don't exist. They're shitty stories made up by Sport, nothing more.

I do trust the manager. He obviously knows whats going on and he's sure that de Jong is coming.

If he wasn't sure, i truly don't think that he'd stick around. It's just pointless for both clubs. The wage issue is holding things up but if Barca truly wanted to sort things and keep him, i'm sure they'd have figured something by now and cancelled the agreement?

The second part of what you've said is what is convincing me that there must be something in this. I can't imagine us sticking with this for so long based on nothing, but I also simultaneously am sceptical with Barcelona, who just seem dodgier and dodgier the more this goes on. They're very quick to buy new players but don't seem to be quick with moving de Jong on. You'd think that they'd be desperate for that transfer fee and even if you subtract the money they owe de Jong from that transfer valuation, they've got money there right on the table that they seemingly aren't in a rush for. I'm convinced that they think they can get de Jong to agree to a huge wage drop, and that's why the deal has stopped.

Will Fred dissolve when he hits 30? :nervous:

Haha, no, but it surprised me as I swore he was at least 3 or 4 years younger than that. Matic is 33 and his have legs have fallen off for some time, and I'm aware of the stereotype of players slowing down/age catching up with them once they get to a certain point. Not saying that Fred is going to have a bad season by any means or will turn to shit as he blows out his 30th birthday candles, but it does highlight that we need to have some sort of plan with what's going on with our central midfield area for the long-term.

True, but he hasn't not got his first choice yet.

It's an ongoing saga.

It's still in the lap of the gods, and we need to trust that ETH knows that he wants to come if/when his finances are sorted

The depay links are concerning but I wouldn't mind having him back if it ensures that we get de jong.

Hopefully our new Dutch clique ain't too disruptive.

ETH seems to be not that concerned. There's so much contradiction in stories only FDJ and both clubs know what's going on. Let's see

Uhhhh what? So FdJ would lie to the press for what reason?
Whats he got to gain by saying he really liked EtH as a coach when in reality he hates him? Makes no sense at all
Trevor Lawrence said Urban Meyer was an “inspired leader” … behind the scenes he told his agent and others that he could have destroyed his career.

Pro athletes say “the right thing” publicly all the time. This can’t be an alien concept to you guys.

I think you have to assume that he’s looked at the market and decided that there’s no one else he’d rather have and that he’d be ok going through this season with what we have + promoting youth if can’t get him.

No it's not an alien concept, but it's very unlikely too.
What proof is there to say that de Jong does not like to work with ten Hag? Everything points to the fact they have a fantastic relationship

Fred and McTominay are good squad players, just don‘t play them at the same time. With FdJ and Eriksen added we will have a very good midfield. More will be added or developed.

I don‘t understand the hate here for McT. Decent destroyer, if he was elsewhere you‘d probably be talking him up.
Don't hate McT but as a squad player at best, for me, he moves like a chess piece from Harry Potter and has no sense of danger, which is kind of fundamental for a 'destoyer'

Keep hearing same argument for AWB, people saying he is a good defender because he can slide tackle - absolute nonsense..

We are never getting back to the top with players who don't have more than one redeeming quality. FDJ has a unique skill set, in as far as he keeps the ball and can move us up through the lines - it would be transformative to our game IF he signs.

But there's nothing to suggest that they have a bad relationship though.
They've talked in the midst of this deal so if things were frosty Utd wouldn't be this far into the deal because Ten Hag relies heavily on players he trusts and he wouldn't push for someone he knows dislikes him and will potentially throw him under the bus

Barca are trying to force him out as they know he won’t agree to a wage decrease and they can’t afford him to stay on what he’s on. It breaks their new structure which the entire club is built on, and what these ‘levers’ are potentially based on. Something HAS to give. Either he reduces his wage or he leaves.

We've also strengthened our side going from 2 managers who had nothing like the credentials to manage us to one of the best up and coming managers in Europe. Players might improve under ETH and also young players may come through, if not we address the issue next season with someone that fits what the manager wants rather than signing square pegs for round holes.

We didn't really strengthen CM which was our Achilles heel last year. Actually the current CM is weaker then last years having lost Matic

Yeah, Frenkie's basically going to break Barcelona's new wage structure if he stays.

At the moment it seems pretty certain that Barcelona are going to sell some more rights and just pay him. Makes sense for him also to move when he’s being paid more than he is right now if he does decide to move next summer.

On Aug 1, Barca have to submit their financials to La Liga. Are they in the clear? Do they desperately need to sell FdJ?
If Barca are in the clear, then what do United fans expect to change within the next 30 days? Why will Barca agree to pay FdJ's backlog after 25 days (for example) but not now?
