That just means Bayern doesn’t want him. FDJ said he wants to stay at Barca …. They are like “…..no”. He said no to United: champions league issues. Player apparently says he will consider Bayern: *crickets* from them and as you pointed out, no association with Lewa deal. So then he’s “offered” to Chelsea .. but I haven’t heard anything from Chelsea in terms of interest. Honestly dk what to make of this

Nothing to make of it. Its just the media trying to run the story in ways whether they can get clicks.

Transfer deals can be simple or lengthy depending on legal work such as contract negotiations as well as price the selling club wants. This is nothing new if you have experience handling purchase orders in a corporate profit-based organization which is about the same process. In FDJ's case, the contract issues with Barcelona is a stumbling block, so it is holding up the transfer. Since the media has no idea what is happening, they are running news stories to keep their "sales" going. That is all there is to it.

I think the best way to solve this saga is a loan deal for 2 years and agreement on a future move.
Barca will have some more money for loan fees, probably 15m for 2 years. De Jong has to deal with Barca about his deferred salary (from 2020-2022) and will get it in 2024. We will get FDJ in squad and pay 100% of his salary in that 2 years loan.
A winwin sollution for all parties.

One paper says he wants to come, another says he definitely does not. Maybe one talked to a decent source and the other to his new postman...

It's an impossible saga to feel that excited about at this point. We need a spicy bit of news in the next couple of days. His girlfriend caught looking at The Trafford Centre's website perhaps.

This is going on forever. We’d of played 2 league games before we sign him, if we sign him. Hope the club know what there doing… obvs de Jong hasn’t told the club directly he doesn’t want to come otherwise why would we still be trying to sign him. I’ve not seen us linked with any other midfielder to replace him though, not properly. Seems like we’re putting all our eggs in 1 basket.

Sod him honestly - hope he looks forward to not even being registered next year, sitting on the bench 17 mil short.

I don't care if we play a few league games before we sign him, and I seriously don't understand why anyone else does. A De Jong is for life, not just for christmas. Think longer term.

We’re fecking idiots - when someone says no to you - you don’t hang about like a fecking stalker.
Let Barcelona deal with the fallout of buying all those players and not being able to register them and not being able to pay him his wages.
Some people are just not that into you - no need to be a mental fecking bastard about it.

Looks like Sam has absolutely no idea what is happening with the transfer deal and he has started to rephrase what has already been mentioned at the start.

It is well-known that De Jong's interest is to stay at Barca but the situation has already gone into a state where he has to leave, due to his wage issues. And that is why we made the move as we know that FDJ can't stay at the club. This was already the case when we first contacted FDJ's agent. Right now we just have to wait until FDJ comes to a conclusion with his club. If Barcelona decide to keep FDJ, good luck to them considering the financial ramifications.

Do you genuinely think if de Jong said to ETH he doesn't want to join United we wouldn't have moved on? I just dont see it.

Another thing is that ETH would not ask the club to pursue if he feels that FDJ has no interest playing here. Unfortunately Barcelona's contractual issues are a very big problem so we have no choice but to wait.

Sit tight and relax guys. If it happens it will happen.

I'd rather he declines to move and we throw in a cheeky bid to sign lewandowski.

Surely he'd come instead of not being registered at barcelona. That will be a nice feck you to barcelona clowns.

Does anyone feel like it's groundhog day? No movement so papers just recycle stories

Sources close to the player says this, sources close to the Barca players say another thing. His agent says he wants to leave then he doesn't want to leave.

FdJ is in constant contact with EtH but doesn't want to leave and has told him that according to papers, but United must have assurances that he wants to come, so it must be a case of what's said in public isn't what's said in private

I still believe, but it's getting so tedious

Aye. I love to muppet, it's what I was born to do, but it's hard to get too excited in this one due to how little is actually going on. The player is worth getting very excited about though.

My position remains unchanged, I fully think it'll happen. But it's certainly not getting my juices flowing at the moment.

Pretty sure if Fergie knew he had a good chance of getting a player then he'd chase them throughout the window. Look at Berba, that looked so unlikely for the whole window and he got him on deadline day.
I'm sure he had the same assurances from Berba as EtH has from de Jong, just the cirumstances of the transfer are so so so much different.

If a manager believes he'll get his player, then he'll chase him for as long as needed.

I remember the caf muppets having a field day that day.

We do have to presume that ETH has at least phoned De Jong and so knows the true position

ETH certainly knows what is happening. However he can't mention or say anything as existing contractual issues are highly confidential. Can you imagine if you are on a contract with your current employer and another company advertises about you publicly? You will be sued to the heavens.

The good news is that the club is highly confident about the deal due to Barcelona's "forced" player reinforcements, so it is just a matter of time. Unfortunately for us, we are bombarded with the media's articles who have equally no idea what is happening, which is causing all the "panic" amongst the fans here.

The Luckhurst quotes don't exactly sound great, but I refuse to believe ETH wouldn't know if Frenkie flat out rejected us
He must have the assurances, it'd make no sense to pursue a player without assurances he wants to leave.

Its the same as this wants to stay stuff. Kf he has to say he wants to stay to ensure that he gets money owed, its obvious that he's going to say to his team mates he wants to stay?? If he said he wants to leave and it gets leaked to the press surely that would weaken his hand?

It's clear that the media are getting told one thing (or making it up) and United are being told another

If he doesn't leave Barcelona will that stop them from registering all there new players?

He is known for making shite up to fill his daily articles quota.

If Barcelona can find financial investments to meet the requirements or they enter into a deferred agreement with La Liga's management, they can still keep FDJ. The current situation seems like they are buying these players based on FDJ's potential sale, so yes they will be in a situation where they can't register anybody.

He must have the assurances, it'd make no sense to pursue a player without assurances he wants to leave.

Aye, he’s got too much of a good relationship with ETH for it to make any logical sense otherwise.
He must have told him that he’ll stay as long as Barça honour his contract, but that the club are saying that is impossible, in which case he’ll be happy to join ETH rather than renegotiate his wage/contract for a second time.

The idea he has “no interest” make absolutely no logical sense when the manager and player have a good relationship. It’s absolute clickbait bullshit.

I don't think it's a case of him not wanting to come to United, more that in an ideal world he'd stay at Barcelona.

The question is, is it enough to make him leave there if Barcelona simply pay him his deferred wages? Or will it take something more forceful to get him to accept leaving? At the moment Barcelona are still playing nice in the media saying that they want him to stay and don't need to sell him. It'll be interesting how much that changes when they need to register players for the season and can't do.

Said in a much better way than me above, thank you. I really do think if he can stay without altering his contract again then he won't be leaving without being forced out. And that if he is forced out his preferred side will be us, hence us still chasing him

This makes sense to me. ETH is not a complete idiot.

It might not happen, of course, but the doom and general BS that’s being recycled needs to be fully ignored. I’ll probably not believe anything until the club makes an announcement or the transfer window closes.

Exactly and that respect goes both ways. If de Jong said he doesnt want to come to United, I'd imagine that ten Hag wouldn't want to ruin his relationship with him and his agent by pursuing him relentlessly. He'd back off and go elsewhere. It would make no sense to continue pressing.

The idea that he's blindly pushing for de Jong and is repeatedly getting pushed back needs to stop now if you ask me. It just wouldn't happen

Do you genuinely think if de Jong said to ETH he doesn't want to join United we wouldn't have moved on? I just dont see it.
I think De Jong is keeping us as a backup plan if he’s forced to leave Barca. He’s probably told ETH he’s open to coming here - if forced - to keep his options open. That’s just a smart move from him. However it seems he really doesn’t want to move and will fight to the end to stay in Barcelona, probably knowing that if he sees this summer through and becomes a pivotal player there next season, all this talk of forcing him out might die.

It’s odd that a lot of people can’t get their heads around FDJ, or more likely his agent, potentially telling us what we want to hear while also first and foremost hoping to be able to stay at Barca.

We don't know what's going on behind closed doors.
So many different sources claim he does not want to come to United.
They cant all be wrong.
As professional as he may be, do we want a player that does not want to be here.
.

Time to move on before our alternative options are limited even further
