S bates doesnt know that detail of information, hes very unreliable
Much of which sounds like bs too. If United wanted to pay for De Jong's deferred wage and deduct it from the transfer fee, there are dozens of ways they can do it to get around "tax implications" and UEFA codes of whatever. United can, for example, pay De Jong 17mil as a sign on bonus.

Any good summary of what you guys think is going on with this at the minute without reading lots of pages?
If we had to sit through 800+ pages, you will too!

And we have a deal with Barca, but are waiting for De Jong and Barca to sort out their own mess before he accepts our offer.

feck me the whining in this thread, how many times does it need explaining?

Barça are telling FDJ he has two options:

a) stay, forgo 17m in owed wages and accept a new contract with a massive paycut.
b) join Manchester United and forgo a large sum of the money owed in deferred wages.

FDJ and his agent in turn are telling Barça they have absolutely zero intentions of even taking a meeting about his salary (an understandable stance considering how they are currently spending money), and that they have two options.

a) he stays, as per the terms of his current contract.
b) they sell him to Manchester United and pay him the wages they owe from the past two seasons.

One must blink first, and it surely must be Barça because FDJ is happy to stay on his current deal, with no change required, no meeting, nothing, or leave to United with the money they owe.
Barça are the party that desperately need some deal done one way or the other. They 100% need him to either sign a new deal and forgo tens of millions, or join a new club.
At some point Barça must make the choice FdJ is offering, do they pay him those crazy wages or do they pay him off and sell him.

He doesn’t want to leave Barca because he will not get his money if he does. He is not owed it. He has a contract that increases his salary year by year. Barca don’t have to pay him if he leaves. He doesn’t have to leave and, I’m sure, will not leave until Barca (or somebody) pays him off. Barca may have been his dream club but at this point it’s just about the money.

From my understanding they owe him money. Like they made the players defer their payment into later seasons, that's why it increases every year. So in a sense they owe him that money, it's not like he renounced to those wages but more like he was promised he was going to be paid later. We can all guess the details but it's extremely dishonest from Barcelona to make the players take paycuts, under the promise of getting paid later, and then wanting to sell them while refusing to pay the deferred wages.

I thought that 17m is only for: the 2 yrs "deferred" wage + bonus because he agreed to lower his wage in the last 2 years.

If he was supposed to earn 14m but earned 9m, the "deferred" should be around (5+5) = 10m only.

There is actually deferred wages from 19-20(the covid year), the new contract is from late 2020. So it's three years, 19-22.

I agree, Barca have to blink first as whilst not ideal we can wait until the last day of the window whilst they need their shit sorted way before that.
Stick to our guns and wait !

I‘m getting vertigo from this dammd threat, with muppets mulling the same thoughts over and over and over….

It‘s simple really. Brokelona have to pay Frenkie his deferred wages if they want him to leave, OR they have to pay him enormous wages for the next four years.

MU should just let the cnuts stew and continue doing other business.

Frenkie’s not gonna blink, cause whilst the current status (his current contract and playing for Barça) is likely his preferred choice, it’s the worst case scenario for Barça and one they cannot accept.

Barça likely hold out hope that the longer it goes on, the more chance he signs away tens of millions and agrees a new contract, else gets desperate to get the United move through. He’ll do neither, and the sooner Barça accept that and make their choice, the better cause only then will this saga be over.

Ok, that makes sense. FdJ must be liking Barca a lot to agree with these (lowering wage, getting that 'deferred' wage paid by weekly basis, and while had his contract extended). Woww..

He expected to spend his career there, so getting the same amount of money over the length of his contract was no big deal, he clearly wanted to help out his club in their real hour of need.
He’s not a moron though, so seeing how they are spending money now, he has zero intention of doing anything more to help them now, one way or another they will pay him what he is owed.

I'm trying to put 2 and 2 together, I could be missing something but yes, to me it seems that he signed an extension that helped Barcelona and is now thrown out of the club before Barcelona has to repay his gesture.

I lost interest in this whole nonsense ages ago tbh but it would be hilarious if we just walked away now and left barca in the shit.

All this just tell me that FdJ has his heart on Barca however they've been treating him. United is just a ready backup when everything is fail.

Doesn’t mean he’d come here and sulk. A great example someone used the other day was Arjen Robben. Really didn’t want to leave Madrid but became a Bayern legend and loved it there.

News flash, we’re not everyone’s dream club.
Our current standing in world football is not great. We’re going to have to convince really good players to join us. That will change once we start going in the right direction.

Have no problem with him not being entirely convinced. It’s ETH’s job to sell the project.

Just dropped by to say that Frenkie could be playing for his club future this preseason. It's up to him to prove that he fits Xavi's plans and gels well with the new signings, is better than Silva, and worth the wages Barca first offered.

He is coming. It will take time but i dont see how he will accept salary reduction after seeing Barcelona spend 130m this summer. And if he stayed, they need to pay him higher salary and they cant register their new players

I really think this deferred wage stuff is just British journalist speculation and the player has no intention of leaving, period. ten Hag probably backed himself to persuade him with the help of Laporta and Xavi also in his ear about leaving but it isn't working.

As said before, if he has a legal case regarding wages, he doesn't need to stick around, he can sue us from Manchester. If he doesn't have a legal case, 'not blinking first' will be a pointless game as Barca won't be paying. The most stupid part of all this fiasco is he'd probably accept another wage reduction if Laporta sat down in private and discussed the situation but sadly, he went bull in a china shop briefing the media for hit pieces so no wonder the player is pissed off. I'm a cule and I love my club but the way we have behaved is disgraceful lately.

It's tells me that Frenkie isn't going to bend over and take it from Barca, and nor should he.

Goldbridge is doom and gloom merchant but he runs a United fan channel with 1.3m followers and have some top journalists on show from time to time. Its not that far fetched that he may get some information from time to time.
