You have to feel sorry for de Jong. He was presumably happy at Barca and now he's been manipulated out, and is having to fight for what he's owed.

I am struggling to think of a team that has treated a player this badly after absolutely no infractions or provocations.

It’s crazy, and to do it at the same time as Raphinha is doing interviews on the club channel? I can’t believe the damage this desperation is doing to the Barca brand. It really is disgusting behaviour.

Would be nice to hear a brief from De Jongs camp saying how United was always his favourite English club and he’d always dreamt of Old Trafford since seeing Tom Cleverly boss the midfield! At the minute it feels very much like he’ll be arriving kicking and screaming

They did it with Messi so this shouldn't be a surprise to Frenkie or any Barca player.

Does anyone know what day Barcelona are set to fly on tour?

If he goes then this will rumble on. If he doesn’t go then he’ll leave surely

Players don’t need to play for their dream clubs to be fecking awesome. Weirdcafe

Ole was a Liverpool fan, Ronaldo always wanted Madrid yet was the best player in the World here. David Silva nor Aguero ever dreamed of Manchester City. In fact 99.9% of players are not playing for their dream clubs.
Never said anything about a dream club though? So you’d be happy with signing a player that doesn’t wanna play for us?

Look, he'd be a great signing but you can't help wonder if he'll have his heart in it at United and end up being a flop. On the flip side if there's one place he could still prove to be top notch after all this shite it would be with a manager he's previously excelled with. Fingers crossed it gets done soon!

Where are the guys that said Barca would never leave him out?

Here is one and I still stand by it.
One thing is to pressure through the press, the other is actually doing it. Dembele also got a lot of pressure in winter, was threatened through the press with the bench for half a year, was even excluded 2 weeks from the games to sort out his future. He still decided to stay and was part of the team again. If you think barca will leave a player out who costs them €30m a year, you are very naive. If Frenkie decides to stay despite all the pressure, he will be a normal part of the team like Dembele last season.

He should be determined to show that Barca made a huge mistake treating him like this.

Surely they want this sorted before they fly out to the US. (which is Saturday, I believe?)

Gonna be a very awkward flight if he's on it.

Everything transfer related aside, the way Barcelona are treating FDJ is absolutely disgusting

I never thought I'd ever see a club of this size telling its player that he MUST accept the offer of another club. Mes que un club.

First game of the season and every game at OT we need to be making this guy feel the love from the stands. Show him how a football club is supposed to treat its players!

Feel very uncomfortable with the current news , feels like a hard line being drawn by Barca .

It could be a hard line to play in order for him to accept a drastically lowered salary , basically forcing him to lower pay or literally be thrown out the club.

personally it’s disgusting from Barca point of view and showing little class , they gave him a stupid contract in the first place it’s their own fault.

If he comes I am sure he will
Give it his all but I think he’ll need significant rebuilding in terms of confidence etc.

Having said that…he could very well want the move and also want his due payment and in that case Barca should pay up and let him go without all the theatrics.
They can't demand/ensure either of them happens. If he stays, he has a contract with his wages rocketing up (to cover the wages he deferred).

They're just trying to play hardball. No way on earth they let a 75m fee go AND pay him hundreds of £ks a week to rot in the reserves.

Even w@nkers like Barca aren't that stupid. They'll take the fee, get rid of his wages if push comes to shove, it's just a who blinks first scenario

Sounds like we may have actually told them it needs to be sorted out by Friday. Frenkie just needs to hold out a few more hours and he'll get his money.

If he comes, Ten Hag better get us top 4 and makes us beastly so that we can trash Barca at Camp Nou next season. #RevengeforFrenkie

Sounds like Barca will have to cough up. Sucks to be them.

As much as he might've wanted to stay, Barca have made his situation and future there untenable due to their own incompetence.

Lionel fecking Messi wanted to finish his career there with them and he still didn't get his way and they owe him a lifetimes worth of gratitude for taking them to the heights they reached with them. These things happen in the football business but it's a solid consolation prize going somewhere with a manager that he trusts and absolutely flourished under who knows how to get the most out of him.

Could be a lot worse for him and he's still going to be compensated quite handsomely while being a centrepiece of a squad playing in the biggest league in the world. It has to sting having his time at his 'dream' club end so bitterly but he's got the opportunity to take his career back into his hands and have the platform to really show the world what he's about

He's still a professional with his future career and international place to play for.

we shall see!

the situations aren’t the same. They didn’t need to sell Dembele to sign other players like they are De Jong.

If he refuses and ruins their plans, I can’t see your management being happy at all. he will be a scape goat.

He's pissed in everyone's breakfast this morning at training, that much is evident.

The way Barca and PSG treat their players when they want to get rid is so wild, I’ve never seen anything like it.

Additionally, he will be playing under ETH, the manager who made him the player he is. United may not be his dream club at this stage but I’m confident that under ETH he will be great.

Barca briefs everywhere. This is done now. Barca should pay him if they want him gone so much.
