All good signings in and of themselves, but anyone who watched us last season could tell we needed massive upgrades in RB and CDM, as well as quality depth ST. Our window event with these signings leaves pretty glaring holes in the team.

That said, to expect it all fixed in one window is unrealistic, but I'd like to think options for RB and CDM would be gettable.

I can see Martinez being played at CDM, RB does remain an issue though.

It is completely and utterly embarrassing in all fairness…the briefs coming out that he doesn’t want to come here. If this does happen, I am looking forward to the spin. Would rather some honesty…”I didn’t want to leave Barca, my family were happy there…we saw our future there…but once it became clear that was not an option…I knew I wanted to work with Erik again”
Why is that embarrassing. That’s football. Players are told all the time they’re not wanted and move elsewhere.

Frenkie will be pushed out, I just hope he likes Manchester and works for ETH, he obviously doesnt want it which is worrying.

Ten Hag stated Martinez didn’t have the legs to play midfield in the Eredivisie, why would he move there now?

I can't see him taking a spot over Maguire or Varane and I don't think McTominay or Fred are at the level they should be.

I think its a case of needs must, Matic hasn't been replaced

You’ve made Charles Dickens look a right cnut there.

the thing with dickens is no one was really interested in his trips to the galapagos or his theory of relativity, whereas arnold boofing jim during a lads trip to barcelona is big news.

You should think again. It's not about who is the best defender, it's about who is the best defender for the system Ten Hag is going to play and in that system Martinez fits at CB and not at DM

Ornstein crediting Fabrizio, but somehow next thread someone will be calling him a tap-in merchant and saying he doesn't know shit

We need him in Manchester next week it's 30degrees plus if we hurry along the deal he can come and think "wow the Salford quays are basically as good as Barcelona i'm signing" and when it starts raining in October and doesn't stop till April next year it will be TOO LATE muhahahaha

 It must be weird signing a player for loads of money that doesn't want to leave his club. Obviously they've now broke his heart but I do wonder how that will impact him mentally.

I think that the thing that's really holding this deal up probably is the reason for him to officially say that he doesn't want to leave at all. If Barcelona didn't owe him any wages and he still would refuse to move, then it would have worried me more. Now it seems more like posturing to get his money than him being completely against a move. Rival funs will have fun with it though!

+ at least one attacker then agree. Losing Greenwood and Cavani with no replacement is not good
And here lyes our biggest problem, the season we came second with 74 points and win percentage of only 55% and a goal difference of +29 (note this includes the 9-0 win over Southampton) we relied on the 5 sub rule brought in for covid reasons we started with Rashford, Martial and Greenwood , Bruno with ogalho, Cavani, Damien James, Mata and Lingard on the bench from the 9 allowed up to Xmas , then Ogalho left and Cavani became our CFW and Martial Greenwood James and Rashford rotated for 2 places I think that season we won so many games in the last 10 minutes it masked the real problems of the squad deficiencies, however Martial scored 23, Rashford 22, Bruno 28, Cavani 17 and Greenwood 12 plus D James 5 and Mctominay 7 and 5 Pogba respectively we scored 119 goal from 64 games nearly 2 goals per game, roll on 12 months later and 58 points and 71 goals from 49 games with Ronaldo scoring 34%. We only had 3 sub rule from 7 named and two managers who just didn’t know how to create a pattern of play that suited the players.

Carrick did better in his 3 games than the other two did to get a pattern of play out of the team. This year the 9 named sub rule is back and 5 can be used with 4 separate substitutions , ETH would want 3 from 4 attacking options on the bench to change the game, the other 5 more defensive options pick themselves, GK, FB, CM, CB, Utility assuming those 5 right now are T Heaton, T Mallicia, Fred or Mctominay, H Maguire or V Lindelof, DVB
We are then left with 4 options from
A Martial, F Pellistri or Amad, A Ellanga and Garnaucho!
I’m all for giving youth a chance and that’s why the Europa could be great for the likes of Zidane, Savage, Hanibal, Garner Garnaucho and pellistri but you need some top quality on the bench as well.

This is assuming our best 11 when up to speed will be ; D DE Gea, D Dalot, R Varane, L Martinez, L Shaw , FDJ, C Ericsen, Bruno, J Sancho, C Ronaldo, M Rashford

This improves our first 11 without question and gives us great defensive options from the bench but to say I’m underwhelmed by our attacking options from the bench is an understatement. We are two injuries from DVB as a number 9, we need at least one striker and Antony would be the obvious even though he will upset Rashford, Martial and Sancho. We need competition for places in all parts of the team.

No idea who this chap is, but he has to be at least as reliable as some of those Barca sources!

He functions mostly as an aggregator and then acts like an ITK when he's not presenting info from other sources. I wouldn't rely on him (he's banned from the Transfer Tweets threads).

I guess I miss the days of players really wanting to play for the club…it is difficult to feel excited about the key signing of the most important transfer window in recent memory clearly stating he doesn’t want to leave what is in his opinion the best club in the world.

Don’t get me wrong, I will still support the guy and understand the situation…it’s just a reminder of where we are as a club I suppose - we can’t afford to walk away.

Not a chance we get this far into negotiations if he has no desire to join us. This is just posturing from Barca and them trying to save face by not going back on their word.

This will be "he only went because we made him"

What is our best lineup like then, if FDJ, Martinez and Eriksen all come?

I presume something like:

DDG
Dalot - Varane - Maguire - Shaw
Martinez? Can he play there? (Fred)
FDJ - Bruno
Sancho - Ronaldo - Rashford

I mean if this is true and not media bullshit then you truly have to admire his resolve. Though you have to question his sanity too, why would you stay at a club that is taking the piss out of you, and is looking to make life so difficult for you
