this is giving me fellaini vibes.
I dont know why
What does that even mean? That we will eventually sign FdJ?

It's material because you claimed that FDJ will accept a paycut, because all Barca players do, giving an example of Dembele just accepting a paycut. Which Dembele had to if he wanted to play for Barca. De Jong doesn't have to.
They accepted a paycut to stay on good terms with Barca and keep playing there. FDJ says he's not willing to accept a paycut. In other words he doesn't want to stay on good terms. So he's putting the ball in Barca's court to offer him his deferred wages so he agrees to the sale. Or another deal that he could accept (he could still lower his wages and stay, but that seems less likely now).
Barcelona can't afford to pay him 88 million over 4 years to have him benched. That should go without saying. Barcelona is under much more pressure to resolve this situation than de Jong.If he wants to stay, he'll have to accept it... the contract he has runs until 2026 and so long as Barca pay the monies by June 26 they've legally done nothing wrong.
The 40% reduction is also a relatively recent development. Barca were offering him more, but Dembele, in his infinite wisdom, rejected it because he thought he was going to get more somewhere else.
He is just a really bad example to use to prove that players are willing to sacrifice anything to play at Barcelona.

He doesn't have to accept it of course, he can leave. Minus the monies owed.

I actually think it will. There was an article last week that specifically mentioned the second lever as being the key. I can't pretend to understand this but basically if the deal goes through before that money is banked Barca would be obligated to use 70% of the transfer fee towards debt repayments leaving them with only 30% of whatever we give them which if you then deduct the deferred wages essentially would leave Barca with no proceeds to apply to their incoming deals. If they complete the deal after this payday loan hits they can use all of the transfer money for new signings, essentially it is the money for the Lewa deal and so Barca are happy to play their game of chicken with FDJ until then. Ultimately though, they are motivated to make the deal happen and once the cash comes in they can agree some sort of mutually agreeable payment plan over the back wages and once this happens Frenkie will consent to the transfer. That money is due to be in their accounts next week so we probably have another 7 days of the same stories being endlessly recycled until we find out if that is the case or not.
You're not getting me.
I understand his old deal ran out, he was a free agent. The point I am making is they let it run out, they didn't make him a new proposal with increased wages.
That contract ran its course, then they offered him a new deal which is 40% less than his prior one.
And I don't disagree at all on how much of a disaster he's been, doesn't change the fact they are now paying him 40% less then then original contract he had with Barca.
The only thing embarrassing is Barcas behaviour, spending money by the bucketload when they owe so much to their playersNo ones coming out of this situation looking good.
Barca look like an embarrassment refusing to pay the wages the player is owed
United look ridiculous chasing a player all summer that doesn’t want to move
And De Jong looks pretty pathetic desperately trying to stay at a club that are so publicly keen to ditch him
It’s quite embarrassing all round. And just trust United to be a part of it. Wouldn’t be a United transfer window without some ridiculous chase that goes on all summer. We never, ever, learn.
so yeah, not a pay cut, simply a new deal representing his worth to them after so much time on the treatment table.
a decrease in pay or salary
Fairly sure Arnold and Murtough went over for that reason.At this point I kind of feel like it's more likely that we chip in to pay part or most of his deferred wages rather than walk away

Agree with you GB.The only thing embarrassing is Barcas behaviour, spending money by the bucketload when they owe so much to their players
United have done nothing wrong here, they’ve obviously had assurances that he’d go if Barca don’t want him & he’s not shafted by Barca on money owed
As of today they can't even register Kessie and Christensen and they just announced Raphinha on top of that. Yes, we can say with decent certainty that missing out on de Jong's transfer fee, demoting him while seeing his current contract out is a completely impossible option for Barca.Well we don't know what the future holds and what other deals they have in mind to create revenue.
They held onto the ESL strongly for a reason, it isn't going to go away. TV revenue will likely increase and I'm aware they've sold off a percentage of that to investors, they should still likely earn more.. its not like the price is going to drop for football TV contracts in the future.
I specifically phrased it as "not willing to sacrifice anything to play". Barcelona's 40% reduced offer was still the best offer Dembele got, he doesn't sacrifice anything by accepting as he has no better option financially. If de Jong were to accept the ridiculous Barca offer it would absolutely be unprecedented.It's not so much they'll do anything to stay there, more so that he simply accepted the reality of the situation and decided to take the lesser wage to stay. He's just the most recent and obvious player to do so.
We'll never know the true details to this deal but rest assured, FDJ will get his deferred wages. My guess is we agree a lower fee with Barca and then agree to pay FDJ the deferred wages over the course of his contract with United. Barca is in no position to play hardball over this. ETH definitely wants the player but he's not stupid to suggest we get bent over and risk losing other targets. The alternative is we pass due to financial reasons and they're stuck with him and have to pay him. They still owe other current and past players including Messi if reports are true. They still owe other clubs money for players they don't even have anymore if reports are true. They're signing players so they must have found the money somewhere. Barca is a mess but I still think we'll do a deal that makes sense for all three parties. I'm not losing any sleep over it.I don't blame the club one bit for pursuing this deal. They've met with Barcelona and have had the deal agreed (if reports are to be believed), so United have done all they can. Barcelona's behaviour throughout all this is pretty terrible, to be honest. Announcing that Raphinha is coming for £50-60 million whilst still not giving de Jong the much-publicised money that they owe him is scandalous. How can you plead poverty one minute and ask players to take pay cuts, and then make signings like that? It's appalling behaviour. I fully understand de Jong digging his heels in and refusing to make any moves until he gets what is owed. This is all on Barcelona.
United have made all the right moves up until now. If there is truth that our deadline is Friday, then I'm fine with that. Set the deadline, and either get the player, or spend the rest of the window looking at and getting other attainable targets. We can't get into a situation where this is rumbling on until the end of the window and we miss the chance to get our other targets, and still miss out on de Jong.
Yeah, turns out that Terry read a sport witness translation about an article that Domenech wrote. So it was him quoting Domenech.I meant the tweet, unless I’ve read it the wrong way round.
I had a huge Russian Blue that used to jump into the bath with little prompting to get his monthly bath. He loved it!I have flashbacks now. Me, dressed like bomb squad guy and cat behaving like Wolverine with all claws out and stuck in my vest.
Tried two times that. Never again
So much love and dream for a club from Frenkie who refuses to pay him his owed wages but rather spend that on shiny new toys
Hope not, Barca could pay what they owe him out of the transfer fee but they're choosing to buy more players instead of getting out the mess they're inAt this point I kind of feel like it's more likely that we chip in to pay part or most of his deferred wages rather than walk away
That's precisely it. De Jong holds all the cards and there is no need for him to state anything different in public.
Barca is the one that needs this transfer to happen if De Jong isn't willing to lower his salary (and why should he?).
Barca's only hope is De Jong making a mistake, i.e. stating in public that he's open to a move. Hope that De Jong or United willingness to get the player into pre-season with the new club asap is bigger than De Jong's desire for the money he is owed (or us willing to pay parts of it as a compromise of sorts).
Read your post above, it’s so illogical.He doesn't have to accept it of course, he can leave. Minus the monies owed.

Seems an obvious solution, if that's the issue.We should offer to pay him the 17m Barca owe him but take it out of his price tag we’re paying Barca

Or we've walked away and actually made an agreement? That'd be my preference.Hopefully Arnold and Murtagh leaving means this saga is finally over and we have walked away from it.
Better to move now and buy someone who actually does want to play for us as it's been an utterly boring and pointless waste of time
I’d take that over everyone saying Di Maria vibes.this is giving me fellaini vibes.
I dont know why
They can't stay in Barcelona for days and days. They've done what they went to do, now they're going to work on our other transfers.Hopefully Arnold and Murtagh leaving means this saga is finally over and we have walked away from it.

Anyone tried to bath a cat? You know that moment when you want to put a cat into the water?
You=Barca
Frenkie=cat
United=water
It should be offered… not sure Barca will take it though because they’ll look at it as losing money on the transfer. They was gonna pay the 17m back in instalments if he stays.Seems an obvious solution, if that's the issue.
