Wowzer, the last time I visited this page it was on 282. It's 686. The feck is there to talk about? Deal seems no more further than it was 400 pages ago.
I think the muppet in me has died horribly.
Ahhh, but you need to read every single post on those 400 pages too see the subtle differences of nothingness that transpired along the way.

But there is a possibility he stays still, and the whole Barca owing him money was also a topic last time I visited. Doesn't seem anything has changed really.

Anyway, I haven't been able to get any muppetry inside me going this summer sadly, so maybe a bit more jealous than anything else. 400 pages of nothingness is what a muppet thrives off. :(
Its been a case of playing the long game really but a firm decision is looming. The situation won`t remain in deadlock and something somewhere will give in because Barcelona need to reduce their salary cap to register signings.

I would love to have been there and heard Xavi explaining how they need to sell him for economic reasons.

"So Frenkie, we have to sell you because we have no money and can't afford to keep you. You must understand how much this hurts us all and we are doing this as a last resort"

"So you aren't just about to spend £100m+ on new players on large contracts Xavi?"

"Uhhhhhhhhhhh....."

"Yeah, feck off Xavi."

Then his personal assistant walks in....

Two messages, sir: Mr. Lewandowski wants to him where the nearest Bugatti showroom in Barcelona is? And Mr Raphinha wants to have the contact of the real estate agent?

Can someone enlighten me why he doesn't just join us and sues the feck out of Barca for the owned wages?

Maybe its time to make that dreaded visit to the urologist?

Once he leaves he has less leverage on Barca to get his money back. If he stays it would feck up Barca's transfer plans and wage restrictions imposed by La Liga. And they cant register a bunch of new players. And on the 30th July Laporte has to provide the La Liga with their financial plans for next year.

So you stay till they pay.

Almost feels like Barca are doing a Good Cop Bad Cop thing.
Good Cop- Give the player two clean options to either take a pay cut plus waiver on wages owed or agree to leave without a fuss
Bad Cop- If the player agrees to neither option they make the decision for him by kicking him out regardless of his stance but making things ugly in the process

They can't kick him out though can they ? He's got a 4 year contract and they legally owe him a lot of money. If he refuses to leave they need to pay all they owe, just like Bale at Madrid.

FdJ and his team are playing 4D chess whilst Barca are playing Candyland, ultimately he comes here but not until he's extracted a lot of cash form Barca

Imagine if he stays and has a bad game. He will be literally crucified. It’s time to pack your bags Frankie, they want you gone.

If you knew your employer had to get rid of you to balance the books but owed you 50% of your last two years’ salary, would you just accept that & move on without getting them paid first?

Or would you dig your heels in, tell them you’re not moving and wait for them to eventually pay up?

Pretty sure this is what’s happening. FDJ is playing one of the cards he holds & he and Man Utd know Barca are in a weak position.

It depends on a lot of things - if Barcelona has told him : "You need to go and sign a contract saying you will forfeit the wages we owe you" - I agree with you.

But legally I doubt they can do it - so if Barca really wants him to leave, he can still sue for his wages

Juice wouldn’t be worth the squeeze. Even for a rich guy like Frenkie, an individual trying to take a behemoth like Barcelona to court will just drag and drag forever.

Easiest way to get his money is to stay right now and try and come to an agreement before he leaves.

Arthur and Suarez got kicked out. If FDJ is preventing them from carrying out important operations and he refuses to take a pay cut they have no option. Granted he needs to be paid first which is a fair stance to have as it`s money he should rightfully demand for

Frenkie (and his agent) clearly want the defferred salary paid to him. Rightfully so.

They are spending 60m on raphina ffs, and they claim they can't pay back whats owed to him? A compromise needs to be agreed.

After seeing how Ten Hag lined up in the training drill yesterday, I'm going to read too much into it and declare that we might see this midfield this season :

---VDB---FDJ
-----Eriksen

Three hardworking, technically strong midfielders who never lose the ball. Against weak teams, it might work.

Nothing there is true about Beek.

I don't think it would be a particularly difficult case in court, I imagine he just wants the most amicable solution, considering it is his dream club after all.

Seems a pretty clear cut case of being owed wages and with the loyalty and appearance claim, it's simple contract law.

edit: As long as he doesn't agree to anything in order to leave, Barcelona won't have a leg to stand on. Even if he did, I'm not entirely sure it's enforceable.

Kicked out how? A contract is a contract and clubs need to honour it till the last day, see Phil Jones......

We should not take him if he doesn’t want to come. Last thing we need is an unmotivated high salary player who we can’t move on.

So you are saying VdB is not a hardworking midfielder who is technically strong? Insane thing to say.

His passing retention is not the best, but his one touch football is usually very good.

He might not make it at United for various reasons, but not because he is lazy on the pitch or because he cant pass.

Not quite how it works, though. Breach of contract claims still have to go through all litigation processes and the courts general view is that they want parties to resolve matters without court intervention (I.e. not needing them). It’s a very lengthy process.

Barcelona will obviously have their own view, group of lawyers etc etc. this wouldn’t be some open and shut case, especially since we aren’t privy to any contracts that were agreed and signed upon.

If I were in his position, I'll sit down with the club, negotiate the best possible deal regarding the deferred wages and then go.
He could just stay but they'll make him the bad guy in the eyes of the fans, put in on the bench and frustrate him. For a young player entering his prime he should put football first I know its difficult but Laporta board wouldn't take all the loses for Bartomeu sins, De jong should seek a compromise and move on.

I did...

De Jong actually wants/needs to play and with a World Cup coming up he can`t exactly do a Bale/Jones. His big status for the Dutch NT won`t count under LVG if he`s not playing see Wijnaldum
Go read how Barcelona made things very toxic for those two players before they left. For the record I think once he gets paid his 17m things will be smoother

Because Barcelona, as part of the sale, want United to agree to take on those owed wages, therefore a contractual agreement to takeover that debt. United have rightly said no, and that’s why it’s stalling. So Barcelona won’t agree terms to let us speak to him until that is resolved so they don’t get sued.

Spanish employment law tends to favour the employee though and whilst I agree it will take time, it's going to be pretty hard for Barcelona to argue they don't owe him deferred wages. They're just playing poker and hoping he agrees to a compromise, because they have nothing to lose.

Personally, I think the strong stance De Jong is taking shows very much him and his team will be happy to litigate if it comes to it.

Basically the levers are activating so Barca can use them to prise De Jong out of the club.

Excellent news for United. Using tools to remove him should speed up the process.

This situation is gonna be messy. Like I said in an earlier post I can see Barcelona forcing him out like Arthur/Suarez

'Take a pay cut whilst we spunk 70m on a new player from Leeds'

Barce are a complete mess.

I have predicted that this week is the cut off. I just think ETH will want 2 weeks minimum with his squad before the season starts, so that will leave us with a week to sort a replacement. Still a big ask in itself.

I think you’re right with this week cut off

I did actually see a tweet that stated the 2nd lever activation would facilitate Frenkies departure and break the impasse.
The cheap bastards must have got a payday loan so they can pay him off.

It’s not just that, add up the fees and wages that were brought in last year as well.
People like to pretend that Laporta just came in and has to sort it all out but he has a few transfer windows behind him now. If I were De Jong this would be the exact stance I would take as well.
