You're probably confusing him with someone else. He has good United sources.Isn’t he specialised in German transfer news ? And even that he doesn’t get right

He should thrive in a possession based side. Obviously we’ve got a long way to go to get to that stage but this signing could transform our midfield with a DM signing also.I don't watch Barca much, but the Athletic article today paints De Jong as a player that hasn't really made the step up at that level. He seems worth buying if we can get him, but perhaps not the slam dunk game-changer that a lot seem to think he'll be?
They surely won't want to annoy Xavi by just selling players he doesn't want to be rid of though without at least exploring some options you would think?Xavi will rightfully have feck all to do with it.
Laporta will rightfully ensure the club does what is required, he got rid of Messi ffs, he’ll have no issues doing what is right if it makes sense to move FdJ on.

Looking at Ajax this season and 18/19, I don’t think ‘’lack of pace‘’ would be a problem.
It's not about counterattack versus pass and move football, that's binary. You generally have a mix of characteristics within individuals and the overall makeup and the managers idea defines the style. It's not just predicated on one characteristic. I'm not advocating signing Theo Walcott of 10 years ago just to inject pace, let's be clear. If that’s the case then we shouldn’t have hire ten Hag. They did it in champions league and it wasn’t an issue. It’s not like we are talking about Mata’s level of pace here.
The pace you are demanding seems to be only good for counter attack system to break opponent high line but they had no issue to beat Dortmund this season with the likes of Tadic and Antony on the wing, Haller as striker and blind as their full back. Play passing move quick football can be effective to break lines and can also effective against team that sit deep.
This would have been mine:
Ronaldo (Striker)
Bruno (Wide Playmaker) VDB (Attacking Mid) Sancho (Winger)
De Jong (Libero) Kamara (Deeplying Playmaker)
In 18/19 season specifically Schone was often stay deep when FDJ dribble to carry the ball forward. ETH has this principle to always leave 3 men behind, even this season he tends to use blind his left back as his 3rd man or his lone no 6 as his 3rd man in defense. In 18/19 it was two CB plus one of the double pivot.I don't remember Schone being a deeplying playmaker, but more a box to box ball winner type like Fred, Kante, Laimer, Holjberg, etc. It was a similar partnership to that of Kante/Jorginho, Kimmich/Goretzka, etc.

I was watching Gérard Romero talking to an economist on his programme today and he said it has to be done by the end of May or Barca can't register their new signings wages on the FFP side of things because they don't have the money. It was also mentioned that FDJs wages rise from 16m to 20m this season due to a clause in his contract. They want/need him gone as soon as possible.I guarantee this won't be done by June 1st
Hoping his relationship with ten Hag will win us the race… players should still be excited about joining us under a new era and new project under a decent manager that likes to play attractive football. We may not be in the CL this season but we can still challenge for trophies and hopefully get back into the CL next season.I'd be surprised if we pull this off but ready to be hurt again. He will have plenty of suitors and our pull is simply financial and ETH right now, which might not be enough. Any likes to get out of the newbie zone also welcome!

Kamara is a pure DM.
Indeed, he's actually changed his tune a bit since yesterday. Not necessarily. This confirms that they kinda need to sell and Xavi will probably be in no position to veto the transfer.

It's gonna be tiago mk2 isn't it but instead of fellini we are gonna splaff 75 million on Phillip's at the end of the transfer windowShut it down boys, let's save on kleenex / heartbreak.
I know. In a double 6 pivot, I just don't think he and De Jong would compliment each other. If, however, ETH played a 433, with De Jong higher as an 8 and Kamara as a single pivot 6, then it'd be fine.
Think people are a bit too caught up on whether Barca will sell him or not and Romeros comments.
After the initial excitement, I dont think it is about that. I think they WILL sell him. But why are people confident he comes here? Not playing the club down but Barcelona as a City and the Nou Camp, to rainy Manchester, no champions league football, a club in dissaray as he approaches his peak years, little in the way of personal trophies.
Who knows about press rumours of not being keen on here, lack of champions league football, relationship with Ten Hag etc etc etc, but £60-70m.......there will be a few big clubs in for him I think, what lures him here currently over those other clubs. We may be one of the biggest clubs int he world, he would be leaving one, his dream club and there could be the likes of Liverpool, City, PSG, Juventus, Bayern....all offering CL football, competition for the biggest trophies at most, better squads than here, better brands of football and structure, better training faclities, better lifestyle, no ownership issues and less disgruntled fans etc.
Its painful to say, but at this point in time, what top player in the world approaching there peak would want to come here in the short term with some of the other options, I just cant believe other big clubs that offer more in the short term dont get him over us
Aside from the Ten Hag connection (and who knows how much of a factor that may be), I think main factors are that we need him more than any other club close to our size could need a player like that, and with Pogba and several others leaving, we've got the budget room for a player on his wages like nobody else other than PSG if Mbappe leaves - and they'd want a big name forward in first and foremost if that happens.

Without a doubt Laporta has to make even more difficult decisions on top of the ones he's already made to try and balance the books after the disaster Bartomeu left behind. What seems certain is players like Pedri, Ansu, Nico and Araujo aren't going anywhere and it's probably only a matter of days before Gavi extends his contract meaning the only viable player left worth anything is FDJ and according to Romero that sale has to happen before the end of May which is when fair play closes. If not Barca will have a hard job registering players/wages already brought in.Seems obvious Laporta is doing everything to undo the crippling contracts placed on the club by the former regime. He’s got the loyal players on pay cuts, got rid of Coutinho, Griezmann & Messi.
If he feels FdJ’s contract is a strain on the club, and that his sale would free up and bring in much needed money to say, resign Dembele, or bolster other positions on more favourable contracts, he’ll do exactly that.
