About time we stop being a pawn in the dispute between Barcelona and De Jong and move on. Have some pride. Go get Sangare + Fabian Ruiz.

I would agree with this for any other situation, but we simply cannot walk away from this one. Because we know Barca don't just want to sell, they need to sell.

Hypothetically, we could walk away now and get, say, Sangare. But then in a months time, Barca start getting desperate. Bump 20 mil off his asking price, and a rival ends up getting him for much cheaper than we would have.

It would make us look terrible.

Unless Barca either a) sell a different player, or b) get solid interest from another team, it is pointless walking away from him.

But were they the players that the managers actually wanted?
Or did Woodward decide who to get according to advertising power etc?
LVG got every player he asked for which is why we ended up with past it or below par players like Schneiderlin, schweinstiger, falcon and Di Maria. He was disaster for our squad.
Mourinho was indulged with Pogba, Sanchez, Bailly and Lindelof - which has turned out well. He kicked off when he was told he couldn’t have Maguire and seemed to set about sabotaging his own team selections to prove a point.
Ole was given Sancho, Varane, Ronaldo, VDB, AWB and Maguire - largely a list of players that most here now want rid of. It’s beyond naive to think Woodward somehow forced these players on the club.

So I didnt take your advice afterall, and yep, this thread is soul destroying. Would put you into depression
It's literally just people declaring that the club is a joke based on a scenario that hasn't even fecking happened yet.

Nobody here actually knows what will happen with De Jong. Christ, even most of the journalists are contradicting each other on an almost daily basis, so I have absolutely no idea how anybody could be certain about which way this deal will go.

They ALL signed their favourite players, many they’d managed before.

Fellaini, Blind, Schweiny, Di Maria (multiple times name dropped by LvG), Depay, Rojo (left footed CB), Matic, Zlatan, Lukaku.

And if AWB, Maguire and Sancho were signed for marketing reasons….

Honestly, which players do you think were signed against the manager’s will?

We have been reduced to arguing/discussing between us about the woes of our club for the last ten or so years.

Therefore who/what/where lie the major problems which have to be addressed?

We can't start the season with McFred we just can't, so am hoping we know for a fact this is going to happen but Barca owing FdJ money is what's holding this up and it will eventually happen.

Yes, allegedly. Widely reported by reputable sources to be €65m plus €20m add ons. It’s the additional payments that are yet to be agreed to make up the extra €20m.
I thought I saw a report saying Barca wanted to up the fixed fee to €75m, has that materialised? This deal seems to have come to an halt.

We have indulged managers with no long term thinking, it’s been “you want Schweinsteiger, ok” or “Fellaini, erm ok”.
At no point have we built for the future, so I’d say we’ve done the opposite of what you suggest, we’ve backed the wrong managers too much, too often, then fired them and then back to square one every 2-3 years.

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has 'totally ruled out' a summer transfer to Manchester United with a list of 10 reasons not to join the club, according to reports in Spain (Sunday Mirror).

Is he not on record as being bitterly disappointed at the gulf between the signings he had been led to believe were possible and the deals the club was actually capable of closing?

It's easy to criticise but...............

And how would you solve our problems?

He’s bitter as feck and what? Are we pretending he didn’t want Blind? Depay? Di Maria? Schweinsteiger?

He probably thought we could buy Ronaldo and Messi the muppet, but that doesn’t equate to not being backed, it’s true for all clubs, not all players are interested in joining.

I gave more than ten reasons and people lost their minds

We’ve targeted managers due to past success or succession planning similarities to SAF, or a past legend. ETH is the first time we’ve employed a manager because we want to play football the way he gets his teams to play football.

So that’s where City started and where Liverpool’s success started, targeting a manager due to their entire playing philosophy he wants to bring to the club. And the next guy should closely match that, thus not having to reset ever 2-3 years.

Gone from really confident it was happening to now thinking it's dead. Tbh I don't blame us for chasing him, suppose we had to try. It is what it is.

I agree with you and you are right on this but then our club are not backing and matching the philosophy of EtH.

FDJ went horribly badly till now.
Eriksen not yet signed and Brentford still hoping.
Martinez - still squabbling with Ajax.
Antony deemed too expensive by the club.
Brobbey?!
Going for another goalkeeper!!
etc etc

Sorry but i'm lost and i'm sure many fans here are too.

Well, we all want the best for United and that's what unites us here.

I don't think that he is too much eager to come here. It looks "oh well, if i really really must leave then ok. But i don't want to."

How can you list all those names and then say that we’re not backing the manager? Once again it’s a who’s who of his favourite players or players who played for him previously. And the club are trying to get deals for all them over the line.

If we start the season with none of those targets met you might have a point but I very much doubt that’s going to happen because since SAF left, we tend to spend big every summer.

Have you just made that up about Eriksen as the deal is agreed pending the medical which is obviously extensive?

Interested on the new information that Brentford are back in for him after he’s already agreed to join United?

This makes no sense. It isn’t the club’s fault that FDJ is owed 17m by Barca. We will obviously sign Eriksen and anyone who thinks otherwise is moaning for the sake of it. I’m not sure how you’re blaming the club for Martinez squabbling with Ajax, given we actually met the reporter asking price. And Antony at 70m is far too expensive, only a fool would think otherwise.

Ah yes, the golden child. The cafs darling. A player some are as fixated with as bloody bissouma or that lad that ended up at Villa on a free.
Sorry but, ironically, if neves moves he ends up at Barcelona.
I’d assumed that this Caf thing about Neves was some sort of running joke?

Is there any other big club in Europe engaged in such a protracted deal this summer? Not just a criticism for criticism sake, Im genuinely asking. I can't think of one. Obviously work goes on behind scenes but you'd have to be burying your head in the sand at least a little bit to not think that United, about to start pre season matches with one sub left back, haven't seemed to improve in any regard off pitch.

To be fair he probably has 17m reasons not to join, yet.

Is anybody else trying to buy star players from a club as utterly screwed up as Barca? The context matters here.

Is there any other player on the market that is currently owed almost €20 million in deferred wages from his current club who are activating “levers” to even be able to register a squad with La Liga?

Raphinha, Lewa are protracted sagas and the common denominator?

With Eriksen coming in and him playing deep, imho we need a DM more.. I don't think pairing Eriksen with De jong would work, especially against big teams.

Then proceeded to name drop Neymar and Muller as the players he wanted. I suppose Woodward did promise them adult Disney land.

The tier 1/2 journos have links to the club and agents. For sure there is a lot of misleading bs around this deal, but We have enough reliable info to get a solid idea of what’s going on.

Tier system.

Never heard so much shite in my life.

Basically, a few journos have stated the obvious, (or got lucky), and have managed to work themselves onto some ridiculous tier list that is adjudicated by some random plebs on the internet.

No one is forcing you to care about it? Odd thing to get riled over.
