Let’s go after Fabian Ruiz. Will cost less in transfer fee and less in wages.

Caf: We should walk away, he doesn’t want to come, it’s off, why haven’t we got other targets? We should leak other midfield players etc….

United link to other midfielders

Caf: oh god not him, he’s shite. No thanks

Never fecking happy.

Well tbf we might’ve signed a number of players other clubs have already snapped up had we not been totally focused on a transfer for a player who doesn’t want to be here which was never going to happen.

It would be nice if this was sorted one way of the other next week. It’s long enough now.

Ah yes, the golden child. The cafs darling. A player some are as fixated with as bloody bissouma of that lad that ended up at Villa on a free.
Sorry but, ironically, if neves moves he ends up at Barcelona.

It's not the cafs darling it's a question of opinion.
We lost all this time running after a player who didn't want to come here and in the process lost other players, who we could have signed, to other teams.
Our club is a mess.

And make no mistake here, De Jong’s new contract guarantees him 260k euros /week for the duration of the 6 year contract. It’s look bad on the salary sheet now though, due to saving so much on his past two seasons.
No one in the club is looking at him as a mercenary when his salary is something we would expect for any top player at any top club. 260k /week just isn’t very high with today’s wages.

Absolutely. He would get that or even more at every top 6 club in the premier league. Even at Bayern, who aren't known for being big spenders, he probably would earn more.
Still Barcelona was known to have the biggest wage bill for some time now.

And Barcelona wants a further pay cut? He will be at 10 million are less then. Even players like Süle, Reus or Hummels earn more at the "feeder" club Dortmund.

If the salary cap is really 10m Euro gross, I doubt any to top player like Silva or Lewandowski will come. The latter earns 23m Euro gross at Munich. Now he is throwing the kitchen sink to get out of his current contract to join a club that will pay him less than half at max?

Again I have no inside knowledge but a lot of numbers going around here just don't add up or make sense.

Just a note that Pogba wanted 20 million and United gave him 14 but now he settled for 8 million at Juve.
Mad!

They absolutely are when it comes to wages

Agreed. Barca are according to reports paying Kesse and Christensen more than the 10m € cap and as you say, no way is Lewa going there on less.
They are clearly trying to feck De Jong over, either to get him out of the club or onto wages they have suddenly decided they believe he is worth and to get him to write off much, if not all of the 17m owed.

In short, they are clearly acting like despicable cnuts to players who helped them massively during Covid.

Busquets and Alba are on the most by far and on money no other club would pay them, yet De Jong is the one the club are targeting.

Those 8 will be net, though, while Uniteds offer surely was gross
I think it was gross but it shows that a number of players want to leave and others don't want to come here and it's not a good situation.

Combined with Ronnie wanting out, it really isn't the best look at the moment. But then we had a decade of next to no success, so I suppose it was to be expected at some point

Pogba was basically hated by half the fanbase in fairness, and he was well aware that he suited Italian footballer much better than the PL, where he ultimately failed.
So hardly surprising he wanted back to where he played his best football.

And managers were not backed properly with incoming transfers either.

Kin ell christinaa, we gave managers a smörgåsbord of their favourite players, and they in turn fecked 95% of those players up.

Moyes - Fellaini, Mata.
LVG - Blind, Di Maria, Schweinsteiger, Rojo.
Mou - Zlatan, Pogba, Matic, Lukaku.
Ole - AWB, Maguire, Sancho, Varane.

If anything the club have been too focussed on pleasing managers and had zero focus on long term planning.

This is such a typical United transfer saga. Spend entire summer chasing one player, prepare multiple bids, keep discussing it until the very end of a transfer window and then don’t get your player and be stuck with your existing team. It literally happens every other year.

About time we stop being a pawn in the dispute between Barcelona and De Jong and move on. Have some pride. Go get Sangare + Fabian Ruiz.

You can simply try your best. Not all targets are met in business.

Woodward, managers, coaches and scouts have been utterly rubbish at their jobs. We have spent skips full of cash.

Yup.

We’ve indulged managers way too much, and seeing as our first three targets are all former Eresivisie players, we haven’t learned our lesson; so let’s just hope the new guy isn’t as shit at his job of making his fave players work as the other lot were.

we’re stupid if we allow this to drag on and then we start the season with no new midfielder. We need at least 2 new midfielders. We’ve lost a ton of players on a free so we need to add more depth to the team! Think there relying on ten Hag to call up a few youngsters to save them money. Ridiculous!

Who? We’ve signed players every summer since 2013. We’ve regularly broken transfer records. This simply isn’t true.
But were they the players that the managers actually wanted?
Or did Woodward decide who to get according to advertising power etc?

That is a myth. It may hold some truth for Ronaldo and Pogba, but you certainly can't explain Maguire and AWB with marketing and shirt sales

Serious question: what is it with the sudden certainty that this deal won't happen?

I can understand scepticism but some of you people are now acting as if it's a foregone conclusion that De Jong won't leave Barca off the back of what can only be a report from possibly Spain's least reliable new outlet and a paragraph from a Duncan Castles article. So I ask again, from whence cometh the certainty?

Moyes wanted Fabregas and Bale. LVG wanted Muller and Neymar. Mourinho wanted us to spend 70m on Maguire after spending 60m on 2 CBs already. Managers not getting very tough targets does not equal not being backed. It happens at every club.

You're right in part as some were what the managers wanted but others weren't.

But were they the players that the managers actually wanted?

They ALL signed their favourite players, many they’d managed before.

Fellaini, Blind, Schweiny, Di Maria (multiple times name dropped by LvG), Depay, Rojo (left footed CB), Matic, Zlatan, Lukaku.

And if AWB, Maguire and Sancho were signed for marketing reasons….

Honestly, which players do you think were signed against the manager’s will?
