Paying someone's wages owed by another club is more than pulling your pants down. If that is what they want, we should move on to a different target. They could easily pay him some of the transfer fee but don't want to.

I wouldnt blame the club at all if this doesnt go through.. I still think the Chelsea link is being brought up to try and get us to pay Barca more (to cover their payment to FDJ)..

We have 2 senior CM's in our squad. None of them are good enough even for relegation standard teams, let alone Manutd.
I think we’ve invested so much on this deal that it’s imperative we sign him. Glazers have so far reduced wage bill by £1m a week with departures and reduced earnings with no CL. If Ronaldo goes make that £1.35m a week - it’s a point not many on here seem to consider.

I’ve mentioned this before, but a lot of teams invert that deeper midfielder in a 4-3-3 and play the playmaker at the base with two ball winning 8s / midfielders ahead of him. Chelsea does this with Jorginho at the base and Kante & Kovacic further forward. Theoretically, you could do this with McFred ahead of De Jong.
I agree with this, although we obviously need to improve our reputation as easy picking in transfer negotiations we can only do so from a position of strength. You’re going to have to pay additional fees when the other part knows you’re desperate and for all the acknowledgment of Barcelona‘s predicament we are also in a position of weakness. They will know how badly we performed last season, how poor the relationship with fans is and that the club can’t afford to go into another season with a McFred first choice partnership.
My worry is if this drags on until the end of the window we won't have time to sign an alternative, should we fail to sign him. There needs to be a point where we either pay up and get this done or move on. We simply cannot go into another season with Fred and McTominay starting, not to mention we've already lost two midfielders.
Fact one or both of Mctom/Fred are likely to start every week is actually hilarious at this point.

Spanish journos were saying united wanted him whilst uk journos never said anything. Its the same the journo that broke the story about united and FDJ. I am sure there is some truth that Chelsea are interested in signing the player.
If chelsea does sign FDJ it just shows how incompetent this board is. No business was attempted because they only focused on FDJ and we lost out on the Anthony and pay more for Martinez.

We are a club that fail to fix problems in the squad. We took years to fix the RW, we still haven't fixed a RW since Nani. We havent got a top CM. Our last top striker was Zlatan.
No other top club goes more than 1 window without fixing the issue.
