Get. De Jong. Done.

Boris will be out of a job soon. Perhaps we can bring him in as part of the negotiation team to push this over the line? He’ll have Laporta eating from the palm of his hand.

There is no way he leaves till he gets his due.. He isn't leaving or renegotiating contract..
Barca miss out on the transfer fee and have to pay him his wages..

They will come to an agreement at some point

There are so many examples of January signings working out, both for United and other teams. Players either succeed or fail and when you buy them has zero affect on that outcome.

I do agree that January signings tend to be more expensive, but that is market economics. There are situations where buying in January, while more expensive than 6 months earlier, still turned out to be excellent value.

How is this an issue of the board not backing ETH? Barca has given us a price, we’ve met that demand. The player is owed deferred wages plus has said he’d rather stay at Barca. If the player is dead set against coming to United, we could offer triple their asking price and it wouldn’t matter. This situation is actually a bit out of our control.

If FDJ decides to stay at Barca, there is nothing we can do. It would be stupid of the club and ETH not to have a backup plan, no? As much as none of us want to see McFred, if there is literally not a single option (Brozovic, Tonali, Veratti, Sanches, Rice, Tielemans, Ndidi, etc???.) and the club has no plan B, that’s just incredibly stupid.
Wouldn't just be stupid. It would mean, that we learned absolutely nothing out of all the failures of the last 10 years. To be honest, that might have the power to turn me away from the club. A plan B should always be there, even if everything goes rosy with FDJ. The players you named are all A-Listers though - I wouldn't require something like that. But we have to bring in midfielders for certain roles. I'd be fine with veterans or free agents if everything implodes but the worst that can happen is doing nothing. If we want progression from the center, there is always Neves. (!! of course I understand, that FDJ has more potential and quality, I mean as plan B!!)

By alternative targets, I hope you don’t mean a Moyes/Woodward scattergun approach. Was literally the most embarrassing window in history.
If scattergun would be plan B at least it would be a plan. As stated above, we can't just do nothing and act smug after losing so many midfielders. We just cant afford to have a position like "only the best players in the world could improve our team" - when it is obvious to everybody, it is plain wrong. We need to bring players in. If primary solution isn't working, check how far behind secondary solution is. If it is worth the wait, bring in a stop gap.

De Jong has every right to get what he’s owed. Barca are trying to get away from paying his deferred wages. There is only one way he’ll leave Barca and that is if they agree to pay him his deferred wages from the transfer fee that they get from United. Highly doubt that will happen though.

This is the only stance he can take publicly. If Barca pushes selling me, they should fulfill what they need to pay me; otherwise, I will stay but won’t accept the reduction of salary. It’s as simple as that. It has nothing to do if he is open to join us. Most people will probably do the same thing.

If you are bringing in shit players why bother spending the money, we already have those in mcFred.

Hardly any of those players on the list are A list, most of them are B list at best, the next level down is mcFred level.

Man utd need a no 9, a no 8 and a no 6. With no UCL, no established players from UCL teams will agree to come here. The best bet is to look for talented players from smaller clubs/ feeder clubs/ academies in Europe or South America. Than try to get to UCL places next season and than build from there to challenge for major trophies.

If we start going after established players from ucl clubs/ big teams we will waste alot of time. It is quite evident that Frenkie doesn't want to leave Barcelona which is the reason why the transfer is taking so long.

brinksmanship, if he rejects the new deal, then barca can hold out on any payments, if he asks for a transfer they can probably cancel his back pay

What? Barca wants to go to the court to proceed a sure-losing case by holding out any payment? You must be joking?

that should be illegal, if it already isn't.

You are thinking of the loyalty bonus that players get for seeing out their contracts

I would not be so convinced that if he puts in a request that doesn't come with clauses we know players have clauses about other payments based on transfer requests

feck em. Just walk. They will soon come scuttling back, because they're skint.

Don't know why anyone is even entertaining their bull shit. Soon as Laporta started carrying on, just pull the pin and jog on. Yeah, we could use him in Midfield. Yeah, Ten Hag probably wants him. . . But feck Barca and their shit. I'd rather our club retained their dignity, walked, and discouraged others from trying to rinse us in the future.

Yeah I’m in favor of looking elsewhere at this stage. Would have been nice but not worth all this.

I think the whole development is really entertaining at this stage. Probably many feel similarly. I am curious how low Barca can go further.
I fully support the stance of our club. There is certainly a bottom line not to breach.

It is a possible scenario. I wouldn't be surprised if such a clause existed. It would explain the public comments on both sides in spite of all the stories about a transfer to United.

Admittedly I have no idea about how something like this would be resolved but would signing for United stop FdJ from then pursuing wages he is still owed by Barca? Why does it have to be sorted before he goes?
If it's not sorted before he goes, then the only option is through the courts. If however it can be sorted now a "payment plan" can be agreed over a period of time, written into the contract so everything is above board.

This would also allow more time for Barca to raise funds / impact on their cash flow etc.

It can't be left hanging because you can't have a situation where Barca are occasionally sending cash to FdJ once he is a United player....that would look like and could be construed as potential bribery and / or tax evasion.

If de Jong had no intention of leaving Barca, I’m sure he would have had the guts/courtesy to tell his former boss, so ten Hag could find another target.

So Barca got Kessie and wants Bernado Silva.
They have the undroppable Busquets , young stars in Gavi and Pedri.

That’s quite a stacked midfield.

No guaranteed starting eleven at Barca for FDJ.

I’m surprised Van Gaal hasn’t intervene yet. My dear Frenkie boy, if you want to be in the starting eleven this coming World Cup, you better be playing every week.

If theres going tp be a fight over wages he's owed then this deal likely wont be happening any time soon. We'll be lucky if it happens in this window.

Yup. This is a Barca mess and issue. We may suffer in the short term with having this drag out but he'll be joining us, just as soon as he's paid.

Lots of people here saying we should go for another target, you know, the next big thing. Any suggestions?

Nicolo Rovella?

So is it dead?
He doesn't want to leave unless Barca pay him the money and force him out.
Barca will ask us to cover their debt instead because they're cnut
I don't see how both of these things going to happen.

Anyway, glad to know we aren't in the wrong in this one. We're poorly ran club but Barca is just on another level.

Barca are going to have to pay him, take our deal, and sell him. He’s on 14 million broit’s over.
