But if true why would we reject an offer like that? Could have reduce the De Jong fee too

We’re a family club and don’t like to sell our players after one bad season.

If you see United sell a footballer willingly then just know they are not good enough to play for anyone above Bournemouth by that point. Anything more, we keep them around because we like them.

There's a new head of the family in charge now.

While Ole just didn't give them food, Erik throws them out of the house.

Could have? We paid £80m for Maguire :(

Not to turn this into a Maguire thread, but any chance of getting him off our books should be taking ASAP, he's on a very bad decline, I honestly expect him to be worst than last season.

United Should be giving players no more than 2 seasons to show their worth, if after that time we are still not sure of the things a certain player is capable of, the club should be taking steps towards showing them the exit door, this can only be good, this way players know if they don't do their jobs they'll be sold to the highest bidder.

The deal is £69 million straight for De Jong or £90 million if we include Maguire.

Am I going crazy or are these guys just copying what the other said ^^

That's a feckin steal. That price can't be right.

The close they get to the end of June the more desperate Barca gets. If this is accurate then the United team read the ground accurately or had very good information about the Barca financial situation -- and not what was reported.

Again.....Thursday is 30 June, the last day that is within the 21/22 season. Barca MUST comply with La Liga finances from the previous season in order to sign and register new players for the 22/23 season.

International players such as de Jong and Lewandowski won't be back with their club until 1st or 2nd week of July at the earliest.....with the English transfer window closing on 1 September.

Barca want to register like 5 to 6 new players. Offloading a player like FdJ is necessary for Barca to reshape their squad and finances without external help or selling future revenue.

United asking Barcelona to enquire about Maguire to make his value go up? Not necessarily the market value per se but the invisible value that theres actually a footballer there and that big clubs could use him?
Ive heard more farfetched theories and yes...jet fuel doesnt melt steel beams.

If we turned down the chance to get de Jong in a and get rid of Maguire in one deal we would be even more stupid than I‘d ever thought. Doubt this is true though as Barca want to reduce their wage bill and with Lewandowski coming there surely is no place for someone like Harry.

Based on this and the £69m I take this to be:

€65m (£56m) plus €15m (£13m), for a total potential deal of €80m (£69m). This sounds relatively fair. I assume most of the €15m will be achievable, but hopefully at least some based on performance/ trophies.

The only downside is that whilst that cost might be reasonable the salary will also be huge so total deal cost is still beyond what most other clubs in world football would pay.

And we could never dream of selling a player for that kind of package

The club got almost £80M for Lukaku (75M from the fee Inter paid + 4M from the Sell-On clause when Chelsea bought him).

They wanted 100M euros in fee + add-ons (around 86M pounds).

The club negotiated it down to 80M euros in fee + add-ons (around 69M pounds).

That is 17M pounds less than what Barca originally wanted.

Good work by the club, 69M pounds is still a massive fee, but Frenkie is one of the best CMs in Europe and on the cusp of his prime years.

God knows how some fans can sit on this forum and complain about so much when we are inch close to signing De Jong as a 6th team in the league as well.

Are you sure its not the first day of the 2022/23 season?

So says Lukhurst. At the start it was always said Barca would accept 80-85m euros.

my memory tells me they wanted 85m Euros (£73m). Only some crazy Spanish sites ever mentioned more. so if the £69m figure is correct, we've spent weeks pissing about to save £4m. Great work!

As I said before, it feels like we’ve begged them to accept below £70m so that it is “60 something” for us to save face and justify the wasted time

I think they wanted 85m guaranteed + add ons (totalling 100m?)

We have supposedly offered 65+15m (euros) right now

What is so far crucially missing from the equation so far is the agreement of personal terms which will reveal how much De Jong wants to come to Old Trafford, if at all. Really, we should be tying that side up first, IMHO, as other clubs do.
