And you got it in one!
Kessie and Soler aren't that good. They're not getting Silva either. If I were a Barca fan I'd be feeling the exact same.
The transfer window opening has nothing to do with it, you're allowed to negotiate outside the window. City agreed a deal for one of the biggest names in football before the window opened.
Of course he needs someone behind him.Ok and when FDJ is at the top of the pitch and suddenly Liverpool or whoever have us on the counter, they're pretty similar ie. both need somebody behind them holding that midfield because they aren't top athletes that can recover quickly. Nothing about being pressed. He escapes the press and moves forwards, but what happens if we lose the ball?
Kessie bossed the midfield against Fred and Mctominay when we played Milan. Then when Pogba came on he ran the show and Kessie was chasing shadows. Kind of sums up where he's at in my opinion.Kessie and Soler aren't that good. They're not getting Silva either. If I were a Barca fan I'd be feeling the exact same.
Kessie's not that good and is not a Barca type of player. I remember when they signed Alex Song from Arsenal, he was so good by the end of his Arsenal career but at Barca he failed badly.Kessie bossed the midfield against Fred and Mctominay when we played Milan. Yeah Barca have used him wrong, but it just highlights how he is a very specific player that needs very specific things to be able to perform.
Pogba showed for France at the World Cup ( as well as at times for Juve and United youth) that he does play well in a deeper position. He likes to pick up the ball deep (like FdJ) and progress forward with play in front of him (like FdJ). He can carry or hit the ball long (like FdJ). Perhaps you understand why I think there is a similarity. Both need support around them because, whilst they can pick the ball up deep, they quickly move forwards and vacate that deeper position, which is a problem when the ball is turned over.
And to be fair, FdJ only performed well in a bit of a run in the CL and in Eredivisie. If he won the world cup next Berghuis then you may have a point, but he will need a very good partner next to him to be winning the PL/CL with us. This is irrelevant to my point, which was more tactical than the level of the players around them, which ETH has explained pretty well in the quotes.
Some interesting comments by Ten Hag on De Jong. Basically we would still need a proper DM to get the best out of him.
Yeah I was saying he was miles better than McFred but no way near Pogba's level, so I guess I agree with you.Kessie's not that good and is not a Barca type of player. I remember when they signed Alex Song from Arsenal, he was so good by the end of his Arsenal career but at Barca he failed badly.
I would have paid a close attention to your concerns but Salah is still at Liverpool so....Appreciate everything some of you are saying.
But remember... its a player who didn't want to join us, has been told he has to go, has had Eric convince him to join us and we are paying a huge amount for a player who could end up being the next VDB or Pogba In midfield.
That is my only concern, we are spending a lot of time convincing a player to join us, giving him high wages & transfer fee and it could be we lose out perhaps on better options.
Given clubs that are run better, usually know who they want well ahead of time, it seems United only choose a player mid June and spend 2 months negotiating and either get them for high-priced or loss out on better options.
This is where my concerns are.
Neither of them are close to De Jong in terms of quality and Wolves are asking for 80m for Neves. We club could make this easy and sign Neves and Tielemans for likely the same cost as De Jong. We can then focus on Antony or other right sided attacking options and a fullback. It’s the same old indecisive and slow United.
Signing tielemans and Neves for the same cost as De Jong would give us a much weaker team with much lower potential for the same cost. Seriously, they aren't anywhere near the same class. We club could make this easy and sign Neves and Tielemans for likely the same cost as De Jong. We can then focus on Antony or other right sided attacking options and a fullback. It’s the same old indecisive and slow United.

Imagine wanting to overspend on Neves instead of De Jong.
How the hell would this dildo know that?

No that's not similar at all. Because Pogba's issue is not about him being used wrong. He was used to play deeper position and still performed 5/10 overall, he was used as no 8 and also still performed 5/10 overall, he was also used as no 10 or wide, still performed 5/10 overall. Pogba's issue is that he needs to play next to world class players like Kante, Vidal, and Pirlo to perform 7/10 or 8/10 or above.
On contrary, FDJ can still perform 7/10 or 8/10 overall if he is played in the right position/role, regardless if he plays with Schone's level or Berghuis level or Koopmeiners. So your logic that my point only works if FDJ wins world cup playing next to Berghuis is totally wrong because individual performance shouldn't be judged based on team's achievement. Why? Because FDJ could perform 10/10 and there is likely chances that his team still doesn't win World Cup.
Modric didn't win world cup playing next to Rakitic and Brozovic, he also didn't win Euro playing next to Kovacic and Brozovic, so does that mean he has the same issue as Pogba?? No!! Ronaldo scored 18 league goals this season is like 7/10 or 8/10 performance, while someone with Pogba's issue would probably need to play next to world class level of team-mates to get 7/10 performance overall.
FDJ's issues is completly different to Pogba's issues.
Oh for feck sake.
I can already see the hundreds of threads about how to unlock FDJ.
Because he scores them screamers and it's good for YT compilations. Why is this forum obsessed with Ruben Neves? He’s OK, but thats about it.
I’m sure Joel Glazer doesn’t help but how this “muppetier” bloke knows is anyones guess.I'm sure you love Woodward's right hand man who came with Moyes and has overseen a decade of failure, doubt most fans are on your wavelength though.
Article from Laurie Whitwell coupled with many other reports, and he's got some of his own connections too. If you believe Joel Glazer isn't the one holding our dealings up then you're the biggest dildo around.

We're playing this smartly and correctly. The same people whinging now are the ones who complain we over pay for everyone. It's so tedious.

If we signed him you’d change your mind by Christmas.ok is a vast improvement on what we have in McFred. Not so sure how genuine this link with him is though. Any value in regards to getting him on the cheap has long gone.
I would have paid a close attention to your concerns but Salah is still at Liverpool so....
Nothing is happening because of the internationals. At the very earliest we are going to get a more definitive update on Tuesday-Wednesday (positive or negative).
i'm not sure why folks thought we'd sign him during a tournament.

Not sure why a city signed and displayed Haaland during a tournament either
Let’s face it, we are crap at Transfers. City and Scousers identify a player and go and buy him. United identify eight players and piss about choosing one and then haggle over a few quid. Barca are in the driving seat for the deJong transfer. United should say do it by Wednesday or we’re off elsewhere. Then watch City steam in with a slightly higher offer and steal him.
Exactly my point. But the muppets can't see what many, including ETH, say about Frenkie. Instead he can perform at any level next to any old player. Delusional, especially after his career at a top team hasn't gone great.
And then moan because we aren’t signing *insert CM here* next year. Whatever happened to Saul Niguez? If we signed him you’d change your mind by Christmas.
Anything would be an improvement on Ne Jong! And then moan because we aren’t signing *insert CM here* next year. Whatever happened to Saul Niguez?
All players need to be accomodated. De Jong no more so than the vast majority of midfielders.
