I agree. We nevertheless need a DM. Dreadful to think we are going into another season without a specialist DM.
I haven't seen Frenkie enough but I wonder if ETH would take to Fred in a much more simplified DM role just breaking up the play. His skillsets are still useful if he can be coached in that regard, and it might enable Frenkie to pick up from deep and carry.

Fred is almost 30, he has his skillset and what he's good and bad at. His best performances for us and his role for Brazil show where we need to play him. Sign a DM...

Maybe we’re 3, maybe we’re just 2, or 4, or maybe even after 5 we’re not.
That’s the thing, what we should have learned the past years that it won’t simply be a new player or a few that’ll make us great, it’ll be a mixture of tactics, coaching, confidence, belief, commitment, maybe even some luck along the way.

The importance of getting someone like Frenkie shouldn't be underestimated, it has the potential to have a huge knock-on effect on the rest of the team. Imagine not having Fred, McTominay or Bruno making an absolute shitfest out of pretty much every situation where they get the ball under pressure deep in our own half.

Fred is already supposed to be in his 'peak' years at 29 and is a very limited footballer anyway. He is too old to retrain and he hasnt the skillset in any case.
I dont think he needs to be retrained. Its not a foreign position to him.

My point is hes never really been operating under a proper permanent coach. He has the skillsets to break up play and is more tenacious in the middle than what a lot of people credit him for.
