Oh come on, who cares what United fans from around the globe think of the city of Manchester. Rotterdam is an ugly shithole, doesn't mean I love Feyenoord any less.
I am in Rotterdam in August. Is the De Kuip tour worth a visit?

Thanks. Seems like the most important skill De Jong's partner should have is to be positionally disciplined and good on the ball

Might need to consider whether VDB can be converted to play in Schone's role. Schone was more winger or attacking mid before 2016/2017 season.

Mata is probably the most cultured person to play for Man Utd this decade and absolutely loves Manchester as a city.

I think deciding about your future football club, food offer in the city as a millionaire is probably the last thing you think about. He will not be locked up in Manchester for the next 30 years.

From what I understand Manchester is one of the most interesting city in Europe for relatively young people.

A Lot of bullshit creeps into the game over the years

Exactly. Football is a simple game like Cloughy said but it's now getting made too complicated. All these fancy tactics and formations make it too complicated. Half of the time it's a load of bollox like Expected Goals (xG) stats or pre-assist stats.

same for this obsession with having a sweeper-keeper or pressing.

It’s very popular for 20-30 year olds. Lots of people from my town have moved there lately including some from my friendship group. It’s quite a trendy place to be at the moment, debating moving there myself soon.

De Jong - “I like to be the first player to receive the ball from the defenders. In the national team I play differently compared to Barca. And I think this one fits me better.”

The city and how your family can settle is still important, that applies to anyone. If you have several offers as software developers, the city and country where you are supposed to work will definitely be a key point, because most of your time and your family time isn't spent at work.

As good as de Jong is on the ball he needs player to pass to and to receive passes from. One player can never be a catalyst or the one who knits it all together.
Seriously? You have Bruno, VdB, Sancho. And Pereira, Garner, Mejbri etc on the way. Fred starts for Brasil.

There is plenty of football in the team. FdJ will indeed knit it all together, and more importantly they will be meticulously managed.

Funny that word/phrase press resistant wasn't used on Scholes. Nor common then.

That's partially because intense and high pressing wasn't common either. The 90s were more about relatively low blocks, closing space in your own third and let the opposition lose the ball by trying a risky pass into your box.

Food near city centre:
Top Asian Fusion: Ivy Asia, Tattu
Amazing Neopolitan Pizza: L’Antica Pizzeria, Rudys
American Pizzas, Romano (Detroit) American Pies (Chicago)
Quirky Vietnamese St Food: Vietshak
Incredible Burgers: Burgerism, Almost Famous, Honest Burger
Indian Street Food: Tiffin Room, Bundobust
Classic Indian: Curry Mile
Amazing Kebabs: Curry Mile/ levenshulme (Levenshulme Bakery probably the best)
Thai: Thaikun
Japanese: Umezushi

I’ve eaten worldwide and most of these match the worlds best. So I disagree with you there.
Being honest, food is never going to be an issue. There are eateries popping up on a weekly basis, and there is something for everyone.

More of an issue is the climate,

IMO culture-wise there is no nearby rival - maybe Liverpool, or Glasgow and Edinburgh further north….as someone else said they all live in Cheshire anyway in that eyesore of a village in their ostentatious mansions with massive gates and fountains in abundance so can travel if they want to experience other places.

Tried Nells for the first time the other day. Was fecking lovely.

It's insane. I have to stop myself from ordering a 22".

I don't care, I just think they're weird and not the same as us. Happy for them to buy their merch and pay Ronaldo's wage.

I stayed in Manchester for 3 weeks and I can understand why she might not like it, food is crap, the wheather is horrible but the people are generally nice.
This is why having an a good English core might be nice.
My issue though is why do City South American and Spanish contingent don't complain about this?

What an utter load of shite

Like all decent sized cities, you can buy food from all over the globe in Manchester, often from native chefs of those countries with the city being so diverse.

And footballers live like this…

With the lakes, the peak district and North Wales/Snowdonia a relaxed drive away. Safe to say there are some incredible areas to live and have a great life, and if you’re a millionaire, well….

You likely stayed in a 2 star hotel or hostel, in a meh area of town, and ate at shit eateries, not quite the same.

You don’t have to like a city or a country to work and earn a living, don’t we? I doubt we love our workplaces/companies or even our collegues too much and we have to slog to work everyday. Fecking footballers driving their posh cars to training and their millions eh

I have a sneaky sneaky feeling that somehow we’ll mess this up and it’s always been dependant on this money making deal Barca want to make.
Could see a situation where we push and push and then finally we get a statement from Barca that he’s not for sale and never has been. We have to go hard now to stand a chance.

I still can't believe people question living in manchester, I have lived here all my life and worked in some of the roughest areas, Manchester has changed so much over the past 20 years it's untrue, and obviously for the better. Unless you are going to put a footballer and his family in say Longsight or Cheetham hill they can't complain, Makes me laugh when people slag our city off, doesn't Paris and Mardris have slum/run-down areas? Really shouldn't be an issue for a footballer not wanting to live here

The club is fecked, it’s not like it’s 500m here you go, it’s sunk into paying debt. They’re losing a significant portion of their income that will impede their status as an elite side. It’s madness.

They will find a way to survive without a doubt, at least they are still in the CL, they also seem to be better than us at selling players

Yes, it falls into the overall equation of free or leisure time and what to do around the city. But food specifically is not something you worry about particularly in his position.

Quite a few recently have based themselves dead in the centre (City particularly) and I believe Ten Hag is doing the same living in the same complex on Deansgate as Pep and a few City players. Plenty of options from there.

Yep, there’s a few City players in our building, and ETH is moving in (or probably already has now?) over the road from here.

De Jong - “I like to be the first player to receive the ball from the defenders. In the national team I play differently compared to Barca. And I think this one fits me better.”
We need exactly that! Fred and McT aren’t really great at ball control so having Frenkie there will make wonders for our play from the back.

You live in the same building as some City players? Hope there's fire alarms being pulled at 3am on derby day.

Food specifically yes, I kind of ignored that specification. There is enjoyable food everywhere on earth, some people are just way too pretentious.

For those who watch him regularly, does he need a CDM played next to him?
