Us signing de jong is laughable in our present state. Any top talent would be mental to come here right now, especially with no CL football.

He'd take up about 50 to 60 percent of our budget this summer. Is that realistic when we need about 5/6 new players.

Barca won't give him away cheaply given his age and contract.

For £60M, what CM could we sign that's better? I understand we've got a lot to fix but he solves a big problem and makes much more sense than 100M on Rice. We're able to sign him and another midfielder for Rice's value.

I wouldn't take Pogba even for free. He's not the kind of player who would be happy as a sub and I wouldn't want anybody getting in the way of Gavi and Pedri.
Fair enough!
Good to know, so just not appreciated at Juve then?
It just depends on what you want from your deepest midfielder. Personally, I like the press resistant ones who can instill a sense of calmness into the build up, turn away from pressing opposition instead of hoofing it or passing it to someone in a worse position, and doesn't force things forward with long balls. Instead, having the ability to carry it forward himself, playing a 1-2, or a Carrick-esque line breaking pass.

I think Juve prefer a Pirlo type. Not that he was bad under pressure or anything, but someone who will get the ball off the CBs and ping a beauty.

Okay, so answer the second part of that. Why is he struggling at Barça?
To add on to @Rozay 's post, I also don't think you should write off a player who struggles at a Barca or Madrid and is deemed surplus to requirements there. They could always excel elsewhere like Cesc at Chelsea, Alexis at Arsenal for example.

Frenkie is having troubles adjusting to a more advanced midfield position as Xavi prefers Busquets in the 6 role. Here, under ten Hag, he would no doubt play in his favoured position and, imo, we'd be so much more better off from having him here.

He’s one of my favourite players in the world currently, but I’d have ordinarily been sceptical of us signing him simply because our foundations and principles don’t really respect possession. However, under Erik, the chances of this signing working are significantly higher.

Am I confused or what? Why do people want him here? He’s a quality player for sure but I thought people wanted to get away from bringing in players who do not want to be here. He loves Barca and doesn’t want to leave, even if the club tries to force him out for monetary reasons he does not want to play for Manchester United and will command a hefty price tag and a massive chunk of wages considering what he’s on at Barcelona. Let me reiterate he does not want to leave Barcelona and you want to force him here to a club he does not want to play for, would just be another mercenary here

I think it's all BS anyway. They literally have no need to sell him. Seems the links to him coming here is purely because of ETH and their previous work together at Ajax.

I think the point there is the £60m. I dont see us spending that amount on anybody this summer. Rice, Bellingham, DeJong would all be brilliant signings, but this window isnt about 2/ big signings, it is I feel abou tmaking 5/6 and with a £200m budget, no room for that.

It about finding someone with similar attributes that can be moulded into a top player within the system he wishes to play. Just pluckig a name out mentioned recently seen nothing of "Enzo Fernadnez" £20m he is availble for or "Kamara" a free transfer, are they or will they be as good as DejJOng and Rice, almost certainly not, but Rice/DeJong would be virtually our whole budget, Kamara/Fernadez just 10% of it.

We havent been in the position to make 1/2 big signings since Ferguson yet we have tried to do it and not even signed well, we are not Liverpool/City where one/two big additions fininsh our side off and strengthen the squad.

It is all about making progress to weed out a lot of attitude, unhappy players, poor players, players that dont fit into the system and gettign quality players into as many of our problematic positions to improve the first eleven as possible.....do that and we can be looking at these kind of signings again, I dont think really we can be now without sacrificing signings in others, we did that in the summer signings three quality players and not a single central midfielder and it was wrong

Think this line is all fan narrative and far from reality personally. Firstly, how can you sign a player who doesn’t want to sign? Every player who signs wants to be there. After that, it’s just a sliding scale from ‘always supported them as a child’ to just doing my job. Doing my job is more the fine. It’s us fans that I fee live in sole sort of delusion.

We've also done this where signing guys like Darmian, Schneiderlin, Rojo, Blind, Schweinsteiger for low prices and making them the foundation of our squad didn't take us any further.

We are certainly not going to solve everything within one transfer market and that shouldn't be the mentality, I'd rather we sign the right players that push us forward. I just don't think midfield is something we should cheap out on. If Ten Hag deems Frenkie de Jong as one we should go for him. If it means we have to go big on one player that shouldn't be an issue, there are some lower-budget positions as well.

Absolutely.

We have also done it with Chicharito, SOlkjear, Rohhny JOhnsen, Irwin, Cantona etc etc, we have been fortunate with many of them of course, we have simpyl been very poor with the choices we ave made for value the alst few years. Schneiderlin was always bang average and certainly wasnt a value signing anyway, Schweinsteiger was finished, Dan James was a poor buy.

Jus because we are spending small money doesnt mean the players will be second rate, jsut as paying alot of money doesnt guarantee the player will be great, vast majority of big buys have been flops in fact when you look at huge transfers.

Its simply poor recruitment....look at some of the yougn signings the likes of Salzburg, Leipzig, Dortmund, Rennes have made the last few years. Yes there is less pressure on them and more opportunities for them, but our failure to buy young quality players even back to Fergusons last couple of years is pretty shocking and we have shelled out a fortune on the English ones too.

I think DejOng is a fabulous plaer, of course I would like to see him here and yes maybe we can sign him and pluck out a couple of bargains....but I see lots of people going on about four signings as if that will give us good progress. We have a huge squad which even with 10 or so going is still pretty big.....but we may only have three centre backs, we wont have a single defensive midfielder, we dont have a single good right back, we may have just one striker, two very young right wingers who have nto had successful loans.

Solvign three/four positions and haveing three/four hugely problematic ones still.....we could still actually go backwards. We signed three quality players this summer.....yet not a single central midfielder, the centre back has bene injured and look how far back we are from the season before, no we cant do it all in one window, but we need to do a lot more than3/4 this window I feel.

I think the advisory of Ranknick, Ten hags Dutch links and maybe knowledge of Ajax's scouting targets for example is massive this summer in terms of gettign some quality signings at cheap prices. No not all of the signings but several need to be. If Ten Hag wants DeJOng, Im all for it.....really dont see it happenign anyway tbh

Yeah I remember him from that.

Not very high on the Barca tier list though

He's basically just repeated what Oriol Domenech said earlier about Barca willing to except €70m. And Domenech is a reliable journo for Barca and has links to Ajax.

Domenech was also the same journo who first reported Barca hijacking de Jong's move to PSG. Its been said Domenech's source was Overmars at Ajax.

The midfield composition below is something that has big potential imo.

-----------Tchouameni------
de Jong-------------------Hannibal

All three players are more than capable of dropping in as the 3rd CB in the build up phase. But Hannibal is obviously not as experienced in that regard as yet. But with that sort of midfield, controlling the offensive and defensive transition in a compact high block is a real possibility with a bit of work on the training ground and raising the level of the fullbacks.

Frenkie and Donny. Let's get the gang back together

Don't believe this is going to happen, but if there's some truth to it, Frenkie De Jong and an addition like Tchouameni would be a dream come true, and go a long way in fixing this midfield.

Have people put ten Hag and De Jong together and made transfer?

Be cool if ten Hag has already given United a list of players to go with.

Feels more like Barca trying to engineer interest

Just seems weird. Has he really been that bad ? I thought he’d been quite good since joining in multiple positions.

60m is a steal. But I don’t believe Barca would sell him cheaply unless they are on the verge of another bankruptcy crisis. If Rice cost 100m, he would cost lot more for sure.

I don't know if its true but its reported that his wage is 250-300Kpw
If we can get him on those wages and for 70mEuro then I'm in. We have Bruno, Sancho, Martial, Varane, Pogba and Rashford in that bracket so it's not breaking the salary structure of the club. Ronaldo and DDG are.

Him and Tchouameni would automatically make it an amazing summer
Doubt we'd be able to afford both. If we get FDJ it would be Fred, Mctominay, VDB, Garner, FDJ and Bruno for 3 midfield spots. We also need to sign forward players who cost more and that we're lacking considering Cavani, Lingard and Mata going with Martial and Greenwood uncertain. The DM signing might then be a cheaper player.

He is good but only if we can get him around 30, 35 million. Not a penny more.
