Maybe Hunter was right and De Jong is in a nice comfort zone, doesn't really fancy a change and is happy to collect big euros being a reserve CB? Who knows?

Not saying I think it’ll happen because It won’t

But I think this saga will have a late revival

United still need him. Eriksen is the only midfielder we have who can pick a pass

 Some of these posts, boy oh boy.

Imagine blaming his fiancé and calling him whipped. Maybe the guy just doesn't find United an attractive option?

And now people don't want him anymore because he doesn't have an elite mentality to join a club battling for top 4 vs fighting for his place in an elite squad and challenging for the CL/La Liga title. :wenger:
I am not really a Muppet as some here, but I don't think there's anything wrong in calling out Frenkie's ambition here. He's rejecting the chance to play for 2 top clubs in England ( Utd and Chelsea) in order to sit on the bench at Barca because he's comfortable with his life there.

Fair enough that's what he wants, he's his own master, he doesn't owe anyone anything. But that's not the act of an ambitious footballer anyway you put it and people have the right to call it as they see it.

Can understand if he doesn't want to come.
  • No champions league
  • No guaranteed champions league over next 4-5 years
  • Settled in life in Barcelona
  • Weather/lifestyle in Manchester
  • Physical style/pace of play in EPL
  • Thinks he can either play a major part of Barça team or can get an offer from a more attractive team eventually
  • Doesn't believe Manchester United is the club to improve him and reach his career aspirations.
This last point is the big one for me. If we're being honest, how many players in the past decade can say that moving to or staying at our club has been good for the career? Sure, he's got his ex-manager here now and we can certainly pay him as much as anyone else but other than that, we don't have much to offer a player of his quality.

It's not tough to see why Frenkie wouldn't want to come here, but the curious thing for me is it seems as though he's indicated to the club (ETH?) that he would be open to coming. Otherwise, this whole saga makes no sense. If he really doesn't want to come, it serves none of the parties involved (Frenkie, United, Barça) to spend all this energy on a transfer that's never going to happen.

Ironic coming from a supporter from one of the worlds worst run clubs

Selling future TV revenue to buy more shiny new toys this summer. Lets see where Barca is in 4-5 years, the star players will probably run away like rats from a sinking ship.

Quote me on this and lets see in a couple of years time about wich of our clubs are most attactive then.

Yeah very well put

Genuinely think people are misunderstanding this now. United are not in for him. Even if he begged to join us tomorrow we would not buy him.

We have no budget left. And we're more focused on forwards now (and reserve keepers).

It's perfectly valid to take your life partner's wishes into account, especially when you're evidently happy where you are. She'll be his wife soon, he's been with her all his adult life.

Having said that, I'm still muppeting.

Yep. Fully agree. There are some very strange takes in this thread about what is a perfectly normal and reasonable concept, which is as applicable to a minimum wage worker as it is to a professional footballer.

If he was available we!d have him, there is no set in stone budget the money would just deduct from what would be available in Jan or next summer

Elite squad. It’s Lewa and 10 others.

Nah, he's interested in the money your lot of kleptocrats owe him.

Just glad that we at least bought Casemiro. FDJ, if he were to sign now, which he won't, would be more of a bonus signing at this stage than the absolute must it was a few weeks ago.

We can make top four without him and possibly then buy him next summer.

I wouldn't be so concerned if Eriksen could produce those FDJ style dribbles and killer through balls but not seen evidence

Frenkie is talented but so far he has shown no back bone, what are his plans?
To be a squad player at Barca for the rest of his contract?
They'll build their midfield around Pedri and Gavi he'll have only a squad role.
The smart outcome would have been to find a resolution with Barca this summer and move on, but clearly he values Barca even more than himself.
