Yes but his previous contract had already ended and it's not like he could get that kind of money anywhere else either. He signed the previous deal upon a +100M move as one of the most highly rated young players in the world and now in 2022 he just didn't justify that kind of a salary.
Compared to his old wages either he'd have accepted a wage cut at Barcelona or a wage cut at somewhere else so he chose to stay. Its also doubtful whether he even had any other offers, there were some interest from PSG and Chelsea but a formal offer was never made by either of them. It could be because he was always planning on staying or it could be because nobody fancied him that much. Seeing as he only signed a two year deal (age 25) I'd kind of lean into the latter.
Completely different circumstances to De Jong who still has a deal till 2026 signed and agreed by both parties.
Well, in all honesty, he's under no obligation to do so. The only way they could get him out is by making his life a misery, but theres no point in doing so. If he is to stay, he'll likely stay on his same wage, and this fun will start again next season when his wages are set to go even higher
