No way we would've paid 60m plus on Casemiro if we were going to sign De Jong too.

De Jong was going to play as a number 6 for us. Now that's Casemiro.

I'd be stunned if the Glazers signed De Jong too.

In theory they can force him out if the manager tells him he is not in his plans and he wont start him. In that situation FDJ has 2 choices - sit on the bench and get his wages - or be sold. But its a really shitty thing to do from a club.
The thing is even with the manager not saying that, he is still destined to sit on the bench and collect his wages. I’m sure FDJ knows that but he appears to be happy with that. It’s not like he’s going to get a sudden shock after the deadline. They are already using him how they plan to use him.

I was talking about the Antony (may or may not happen still) and Casemiro deals. I have high hopes for Casemiro, but the club were not even in for a DM and bought one only because of our disastrous start to the season. We are almost into September and still lack a ball carrying midfielder and a forward addition. These are all essential holes to fill in the team.

Look at how the big clubs do their business. Look at City who got in Haaland and Phillips first week of July. They got a proper pre-season in with Guardiola.

It is a negligent, nevermind exceptional, conducting of operations by A/M.

ETH has been talking about the importance of making additions - and making comparisons to how rivals have done their business quickly - from as far back as pre-season in Australia.

He also had his additions. But he clearly didn't understand the depth of his problems in the squad, until after the first two games. He himself said how shocked he was.

Also, in his recent interview with Neville and Carragher for Sky, he spoke about how other clubs had a better base than he did. The managers of those clubs knew their squad. They understood what they needed.

No doubt, if EtH had come in last November instead of Ralf, this window would have gone completely different to the way it has. I can only hope the operations will only get better the following year.

But more than anything, get the Glazers out and bring in Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

So out of FDJ and Casemiro - which would have been the better fit for United ? I actually think Casemiro is more right for us than FDJ - but I think FDJ would be a lot better for us if we also had Casemiro, rather than FDJ with Eriksen/Bruno/MCT/Fred
I agree Casemiro will solve more problems than FDJ although both would be great. If FDJ was our only CM signing, we would have the same issues of getting over run in midfield without a player to protect the defence.

I genuinely think he’s coming if Chelsea aren’t in for him. Surely he gets Barca are treating him like a clown.

You realise that ten Hag would ideally want two 6’s? It was not a case of one or the other; the preferred system requires both. FDJ is not there to do any of the jobs Casemiro relishes and vice-versa. FDJ also needs cover to play his optimal game otherwise he will be restricted or ‘foolhardy’ running off up the pitch and out of position as he does.

Buy you don't think Ten Hag or the Glazers would settle for Eriksen as the other 6? With backups of Fred and McTominay?

What was the point of our officials flying to Barcelona in the last 2 days? Beach day?
This is why I still hold out hope. I'm certain they wouldn't have gone if not asked / encouraged. As you say, what was the point? If it was just to be told 'no, FDJ is staying' then surely a phonecall would be better? It's on.

It’s more that your initial post rules out FDJ because of Casemiro; I think the reality is that if he wants it and sorts out whatever with Barca, we’ll gladly put the money down, Casemiro or no Casemiro.

Not sure what the contingency is if he’s not coming just that he’d not not be coming because of Casemiro.

No that’s not right at all.

We needed both profiles of player as many of us were saying when we were just after FDJ. We needed a Casemiro type as well. We just haven’t been able to get FDJ that’s all.

The money doesn’t seem to have run out but other areas do need attention as well. I think we’re just trying to recruit as many top players who will improve the team as we possibly can before the window shuts. It is scattergun, we know, but so far it’s effective- we got several players who will improve us.

FDJ is still the no1 and I still think we’ll get him, eventually, to play WITH Casemiro.

Atleast we'll know within a week either way now.

I love when someone gets unveiled as a catfish or caught up in plagiarism. There's just something very Scooby Doo about it

Barca been starting DeJong so I think the deal is long dead.
That is so sad. Really, we need to take a hard look at what's wrong this time. How can we fail so miserably? We are now forced to play again like Ole saw, direct and counter attack because we do not have ways to control anything in that midfield as of now.

You're right and I am more than sad about this. So, so disappointing. Our midfield is not designed to control the game for now.

It's better be on or we would be forced to play with high intensity and for second, third balls and counter attack for a whole another season because we won't be able to control the midfield and calm down the game. It's not sustainable for us for all games. Any team playing a low block with actually counter us back.

It would be nice to get DeJong but it is DeJong after all, no real shame in bringing in Casemiro even if a little desperate. I think Casemiro/Eriksen or Casemiro/Fred or even McTominay might surprise a few people.

We haven't even heard if the supposed take a paycut or leave meeting has taken place.
